I will be there, it is going to be my first Beach Boys concert. Pretty damn excited. I only hope that my trolling of this board and every youtube video from the tour doesn't ruin the experience for me.
...which is why the only clip I've watched so far is "Isn't it Time" because the album wasn't out yet and I couldn't stand not knowing how the song went!

Wasn't there but I heard from someone else that at soundcheck they also rehearsed Vegetables and Graduation Day.
Oh man Oh man oh man. Gotta be Darian for Darlin'. Also, when people post the setlist, who do they keep telling us that Then I Kissed Her is a Crystals cover; that Do You Wanna Dance is a Bobby Freeman cover; Barbra Ann a Regents cover and so forth every show? Because Then I Kissed Her is a The Crystals cover, Do You Wanna Dance is a Bobby Freeman cover and Barbara Ann is a The Regents cover. Yes but...what is the point?

Regarding "Darlin'": I've heard both - Cowsill and Darian - sing it, although just on youtube. No question for me that, shouldn't a Beach Boy sing it, it has to go to Darian. He absolutely nails that.
Agreed. When I saw Mike Love's boys, and cowsill sang it, he ran down front and sang it because Stamos was there to drum, but the clips on youtube with him drumming and singing seem to really challenge him, which is understandable. I remember he did the same thing for Help Me Rhonda too, and the place went nuts!

SO stoked for this show!
All setlist info, photos, etc can come right here! I'll do my best to post updates between the soundcheck and the show (if I'm not in a coma from meeting the boys...), and the intermission (same principle applies...) At the very least, I'll have a great lengthy review at the end of the evening!
The boys will be working hard this day, coming down fro NYC to MD, in a matter of a few hours to do a full show...I don't know how they are gonna do it, but I know it will be great!

Intermission.. No surprises yet, and I peeked at the set list on stage and don't see Darlin'. Great show so far! Mike made fun of Bruce for writing I Write the Songs--"Due to curfew we won't be playing it tonight, but you'll hear it tomorrow at the dentist's, or in the elevator, or...," to which Bruce responds, "Yeah, right after Kokomo" The pattern has seemed to be that when a "new" song pops up in a soundcheck, it takes a show or two before it gets into the actual setlist. Assuming "Darlin'" went okay, I would imagine it'll be in the next show or added within a couple of a shows. Thats what I was thinking....so my favorite beach boys song will be on the set for my Friday concert...right?

Got a taste of Darlin' during the soundcheck! I also ran into Nelson and requested Vegatables--he laughed heartily and said Mike would totally go for that YES! Darlin'?!?! Darian sang I presume? It's a featured number for Cowsill in Mike's band, so I wouldn't be so sure. True, he did a very nice job of it when I saw that band two years ago. But Darian knocks it out of the park too...any clarification from anyone? Has it been played yet? We're aparently three songs in...this one tends to show up early in the set.

Okay...my life story in a post time... I'm 17, and listen to good music. I don't like to say I just listen to Classic Rock or anything, because that isn't true. There IS good music being created today, just not in the abundance it was. Obviously, I'm a Beatles Fan above all. I owe it all to them and Sir Paul, as his own being as well. I've seen him 5 times now, have traveled quite a bit to see him too. Same goes for Elton John, Billy Joel, Chicago etc...oh, and of couse, The Beach Boys! A lot of people think it is something my parents have enflicted on me, but frankly, I have a better taste in music than they do. One word: Nickelback... My grandmother helped fuel the fire that was my passion for this music, because she grew up with it, turned me onto vinyl (played Rubber Soul for me for the first time on her turntable), and goes to all these concerts and events with me. Being a musician, and leading several musical groups, all of this influence has done nothing but enhance my own musicianship, and song writing. I'm writing a card for Brian for when I meet him, because I know I can't possible sum up my gratitude simply by saying "Thank You". I even "work" at my church now as Director of Contemporary Worship Music, basically, I run the Praise Band, and choose the music for our Contemporary worship experience. But I wouldn't have that skill and instinct, if it hadn't been for all these guys. So for me personally, this isn't just liking The Beach Boys. This is appreciating quality music from any time period, and enhancing my lifestyle with it. ....thanks.

Great setlist...so thrilled to see "This Whole World", SO hope it sticks around for my concert, I didn't know it before the tour kicked off, then I listened to it, and it just totally changed my perspective of The Beach Boys.
I was surprised they didn't play anymore new songs...I'd like to hear "Shelter" live, in addition to the other two being played. They are definitely my three favs for a live setting, in the fashion they are doing.

The songs I LOVE! 1. Summer's Gone- If this ends up being the last Beach Boys song ever, I'm okay with that. 2. Pacific Coast Highway- Lyrically, this knocked me off my feet. So simiple, yet it nearly had me in tears. 3. Shelter- This has everything I look for in a song. Catchy yet charming melodies, simple yet sincere lyrics and beautiful harmonies. 4. Isn't It Time- It has a Ukulele. Need I express my love for this song any further? 5. That's Why God Made The Radio- Catchy, but not annoying. Some interesting lyrical choices. I really love the "whole new generation" part, and as Mike said "it's got every chord ever invented!" The Songs I Like... 6. Think About The Days- Nice opener, almost like a warmup for whats to come, well played boys. 7. From There To Back Again- Nice ballad, sung beautifull by Al. But what is the hype over this? Am I missing something? 8. The Private Life of Bill and Sue- I didn't like this until the last stanza from the voiceover guy, think it is hillarious! The Songs I don't like..... 9. Spring Vacation- Cheese. 10.Strange World- Cheese. 11.Beaches in Mind- Gorgonzola up in here. 12.Daybreak Over The Ocean- I couldn't even listen to this whole song...easily the worst on there.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Thread For VIP Experiences

I really appreciate reading this thread, as I was sorely tempted to buy the VIP package for the Hollywood Bowl show. I'm sort of glad I didn't now. It does sort of suck that the band acts that way at its meet-and-greets. One thing I think we all should remember about this group is that they all became very famous at a very young age. And this is a harsh thing to say, but none of these guys (save perhaps Mike) has ever worked a real day in a real job at any time in their lives. They don't understand what it's like to struggle for a paycheck and to make the choice to spend that paycheck on something like a VIP package at a concert. I don't want to speak for anyone here, but if I became a rock star at 35, and I learned that fans were paying several hundred dollars a pop just for the opportunity to be in my presence, I'd be a little humbled. I'd be more humbled if I knew I was going to be earning several thousand dollars for maybe 1-2 hours (if that) of "social interaction" time. In fact, I'd probably feel a duty to earn that money and give people their money's worth. It would be no-holds-barred, baby. I'd be MR. PERSONALITY the whole freaking time. I'd have my arm around fans, calling them by their first names, wanting to know what they loved about my work, what they hated, where they were from, etc. Fans would be leaving that room either completely sick of me, or ready to buy up the entire souvenir stand based on their experience. And why not? They're paying good money for the experience. Don't let the Beach Boys fool you on these types of experience, some are just like what you said....not from the BB's, but other artists.

A story going around claims that two experts familiar with Beach Boy autographs state that four of the autographs on the 50th anniversary posters were signed by the band members, while the autograph of the fifth band member is done by someone else who has the ability to closely approximate that band member's signature.
I saw nine autographed BBs 8 x 10 photos at the Irvine show. Brian's autograph varied considerably, often very significantly, on these band photos, while the autographs of the other guys remained essentially the same. A friend emailed photos he took of a few of Brian's autographs, on the band photos sold at the Irvine show, to an autograph expert. This expert stated that those were authentic BW autographs. This expert also sent my friend a photo of a BW autograph on a BBs 50th Tour program sold at a recent show, which he and another expert said was not done by BW. So in my comment above, the expert opinion (in that case two experts) was that the BW autograph on a Tour Program, rather than a band photo, as I originally posted above, had been done by someone else. This in no way implies that all BW autographs on the Tour Programs are done by someone else. And having attended three shows in Southern California, to the best of my knowledge there were no autographed tour programs available at these shows. They, along with the photos, are sold only when the band members find time to sign a few. How much were they?

All valid points, but it just crossed my mind, why DIDN'T Al stick around after Carl's passing. I've heard he was fired by Mike, and I've heard he quit. If it boiled down to Brian and David leaving after this tour, wouldn't it essentially be the same lineup, and wouldn't he make the same decision?

I don't see this working after this year. I think David Marks is going to dissapear into oblivion once more, Brian will go back with his band, or maybe do nothing at all, he is gonna be pretty beat after all this and, Al will probably hitch on with Mike and Bruce's show. Just my guess.

Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band ('67) Magical Mystery Tour ('67) The Beatles ('68) Yellow Submarine ('69) Abbey Road ('69) Let it Be ('70) All of that plus the following singles is their entire catalog...
