1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Beach Boys' 1993 European tour... on: December 12, 2012, 02:08:09 AM
Bumping this thread!
1993 was the first time I saw the Beach Boys live. An amazing experience!
Years later, I found a photo online taken by a crew member from stage with myself visible in the audience! (next to the fence of course!)
Really cool Smiley

I remember early 2000 Bruce used to play the saxsolo part on Shut Down.
Fantastick one finger solo!

Well
They don't have the same booking agent. Guess you e-mailed an agent with contacts to book them all.

I don't see how this was particularly special. It was the backing band performing it at soundcheck. There's plenty of recordings of the bulk of that band playing Surf's Up, for example the recording on a little 2004 album called Brian Wilson Presents Smile.

Hearing the band performing it was great. The magic begun when Al asked them to do the coda again and nailed it.

Hearing it was stunning.

The soundcheck in general was cool to hear, as they did Warmth and I can hear music. Me and Fallbreaks knew the setlists from the tour by heart
and new it was something special. Suddenly  Jeff went to Brian who was sitting next to the stage saying "they're gonna do Surf's up now. you wanna sit in front and listen?". Brian
was happy were he sat but I can tell you that my pulse went up 2000%.

The venue was empty, so guess no one recorded it.

Soundcheck in Oslo July 31 was amazing, but didn't want to raise any hopes or spoil anything so I waited til the last show was done Smiley

Band + Bruce present at onstage for soundcheck, empty indoor venue, no VIP-guest. Brian was sitting next to the stage.

After they've soundchecked 'Warmth of the sun' (!) the band + Bruce does Surf's Up
with Scott on lead. Sounded amazing. After they're finished, Al arrives onstage saying:
"play the coda again, i think i remember my parts"

So they start playing the tag again and then Al joins in with his powerful voice in perfection:
"A children's song have you listened as they played"

sh*t, that was amazing. Not a dry eye in sight.
Those 2 minutes was worth the trip alone.

Just a nod too slow I think!
Dave is exaggerating his solos though...

I wonder if we'll ever get to hear just the 5 "Beach Boys" harmonizing. Always with the Totten and Foskett.

Just the 5!

Reading the requirements/requests/riders from the sixties/seventies would be really cool!
Anyone got them?

And a chair.

Some of those riders are ancient. The green lighters request has to be from the 1970s.

Nah, the same page refers to MICROWAVE POPCORN. I'd say early nineties, maybe late eighties.

The green lighter thing is old. Probably early nineties.

I'd say ANDO is John Andersson, guitar tech!

Edit:
Sorry, already solved!
25  Smiley Smile Stuff / Concert Reviews / Re: Show 56: Trädgårdsföreningen - Göteborg, Sweden 7/29/12 on: August 06, 2012, 11:16:56 PM
From what film clips I hear from this Gøteborg concert, the one in Oslo which I attended sounded much better. They were indoors and I think that performing in a darker setting makes the band better and Brian more confident. Concerts in broad daylight like that never did much for me anyway.

You can't compare sound based on clips.

The Beach Boys sounded fantastic in both Gothenburg and Oslo.
