As if anyone attending the show must automatically know the context behind it and the performance, that's just such a lack of professionalism

Does anyone have the new lyrics for the re-write of Getcha Back?

Thanks in advance

What rewrite?

They "honor" Dennis with DYWD...it's super weird. I'm not a fan.

How weird

What is the origin of Brian's cover of his brother Carl's song, "Heaven"?  When was it recorded and for what project? I seem to recall it might've been a website exclusive or something? I haven't been able to find it on the interwebs, although I know I've heard it many moons ago.

It was a free download from Brian's then-website, recorded, mixed and posted on December 21, 2007, on what Brian says would have been Carl's birthday.  Not issued anywhere else AFAIK.

his vocals are pretty amazing on it
wonder if the context made him more nervous as to sound the best

Very disapointing interview. Absolutely no mention of helping Paul McCartney write Back In The USSR.

 LOL

Wow, that's a great interview ... Carl was very candid.
The part that struck me is when Carl said that there's only so many time you can go "Brian? Oh, he's ok". I also think it's interesting that Carl actually acknowledged the "Australia incident". Although he denied using heroin. I think we need more journalists like the guy in this interview. Somebody who is not shy about asking questions most people would skip.

I don't read a tons of interviews, but i gotta say i'm impressed over the last ones i came across, the 95 Brian one during the Paley era and now this, is there any more fascinating interviews like these, where it gets more personal and evocative, more "real"?

Landy did end up getting a credit on the 1990 CD reissue as "Executive consultant of CD remastering".  Undecided

Thank god i don't own this copy, i hope the others reedition sold more than this

I know PS was out of print when I started getting into the group in 1980. I was reading David Leaf's book on the bus to and from school. Checked Tower Records, Peaches, Budget Tapes and Records, nobody had PS. I vividly recall the day in summer 1981 when I walked into Tower, and there it was, A Capitol Value, $3.99. Took it home and let it change my life. There followed a whole bunch "Capitol Value" reissues of BB's albums, but most had a couple songs deleted. I didn't want those versions. Beach Boys Concert, Party, Smiley Smile, Wild Honey, Friends and 20/20 were released intact, so I grabbed those, hard to believe, only $3.99 each. The others I had to track down at various used record stores. I have a version of Surfin' USA with a yellow Capitol label (similar to the orange one on most 1970's releases). Sometime in the late 80's I found a copy of Surf's Up in a bargain bin at Fred Meyer for 99 cents. Those were fun times, trying to complete my BB's collection.

One time at a flea market i came upon M.I.U, had no motivation of getting it, but hell, if i can get the record that has My Diane on it for just one dollar, why not i ain't gonna die for it

But it's only once home i actually thought of checking the vinyl inside (which i always do usually) and surprise, the dude left Surf's Up in it! what a nice treat, definitely makes it up for it.

It's probably in my top 3 Sad

I just wish there was an alternative reality where Good Time found its spot on Sunflower (hell replace it over Tears, i'd be the last to cry over that decision) and therefor My Diane made it on Love You.

What are the odds Brian finally does a Love You tour? i guess probably none, altho i remember reading here that some of his bandmates approved of it

TM is known to mentally handicapped person aging and as he seems to practice it regularly, that might help to explain lack of wrinkle, etc.  Though in that 'bug-eyed" photo, he has his wyes wide open which minimizes the appearance of crow's feet.  I'm a similar age and don't have many wrinkles....just stay out of the sun, drink a lot of water, watch your diet and so forth.  I think Mike looks pretty good for his age, but not outstandingly so.  Brian, on the other hand does not look well....just has not taken care of himself, unfortunately.

Not sure if Brian cares, he ain't a diva wearing jewelry to prove himself you know what i mean, he just writes songs so that the diva can get his pay to get  jewelries

I've always thought if Brian (and now with Al) could dig into a few Carl and Dennis songs, that would be great. Because nobody else is doing them at this stage. I can understand it might be difficult for Brian to do a lot of Carl and Dennis stuff.

Al's original mission statement for his "Family & Friends" band back in 1998 was to dig into a lot of those sorts of deep cuts. There were plans to do stuff like "Be Here in the Morning", and I could have totally envisioned them doing some Carl and Dennis stuff (and they did rehearse "The Trader"). But of course Al's band never got off the ground to the point of being able to do that.

That would be cool.  I know he had David Marks do Little Bird on the 2013 tour.  Perhaps give it to Blondie.   And we all know Darian can nail a Carl lead.

Yeah i know this is a Brian "solo" tour, but come on, he has been on that since the 80s, so with Al and Blondie with him, if he's not gonna try it not, when? and who? since Mikes band aren't bothering covering Dennis or Carl songs (oh wow Mike, so much for feeling bad not saving your brothers from drugs, our lord our savior! but sure have some spot for SIP and Pisces huh, right onnnn make that ego shine beeybeeeeeee who cares of the BEACH BOYS legacy)

Brian really only starting touring as a solo artist in 1999.

Haha well yeah technically, but you know what i mean

Carls songs are so underrated.... Trader, Long Promised Road, Angel Come Home, some of the best stuff on the albums they're on.
119  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike and Bruce Beach Boys 2017 Tour on: March 10, 2017, 11:39:44 AM
The disparity between Mike and Bruce's stated environmental stances and their politics is a legit issue worth taking them to task on, but I long ago was resigned to that never happening, so it's not a big deal. The Rolling Stone writer last year was the first person to actually ask Mike about a few of these types of discrepancies (such as seething with anger while espousing TM), but it's so rarely going to be asked and even more rarely answered.

The apparent hypocritical nature of the disparity isn't my main issue with a song like "SIP", it's more that they're bringing zero credibility to the issue based on their own voluntary comments regarding their politics. It's not an outlandish argument to make that their political alignment was and is with a party that works against the environmental causes they claim to be concerned about. If they want to just give a shoulder shrug when this is pointed out, that's their business. But then they're not going to be taken seriously when singing "Summer in Paradise" unless we just ignore the words altogether.

If I was a journalist and Bruce (or Mike) brought up the Surfrider Foundation one more friggin' time, I'd take him to task.

Dude poses with Trump and then brings back SIP live, pretty sure you can't get anymore hypocrite than that.

Hahahahahah Pisces + SIP is still a thing it wasn't a one day joke? amazing.

Thanks Wink

I actually like the live versions I've heard of SIP.

Pisces Brother, on the other hand.  A part of me was really hoping to like it.  Daybreak Over the Ocean gets a lot of hate, but I like that song, so I thought it might be a similar situation, but not at all.

"Summer in Paradise" wasn't too bad when it first entered the setlist; it was something new. But it became sort of grating before too long. The environmental message just made Mike and Bruce appear hypocritical due to their own political leanings, Bruce always sounds kinda weak on the bridge, and while the guys in the current band no doubt have plenty of gusto working under Mike, Al in particular as well as Carl always looked bored to tears doing SIP material in concert.

Doesn't Bruce sound super flat and tired lately? from what i've seen here and there anyway

Back on track, I see that Here Today, I'm Waiting for the Day, Caroline No, and You Still Believe in Me are still in Mike and Bruce's setlist as of March 4th.  If they stay in the setlist this summer, I might try to see them if a Baltimore date gets added.

What are there current setlists? setlist.fm hasn't anything updated for their recent shows
124  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike and Bruce Beach Boys 2017 Tour on: March 10, 2017, 10:00:57 AM
I actually would tend to think Mike Love will plan something with their "California Saga" family band

Considering the CalSaga band hasn't done *anything* publicly for nearly five years now, I'm not counting on that. They apparently did some studio stuff after the C50 tour was over, but it all sounded very preliminary and without a specific goal.

I don't know, that's probably on them, and Mike Love is too busy to be him you know, rehearsing Summer Of Paradise, rewritting Getcha Back, rerecording with John Stamos, doing his book and of course his endless tour with girlfriend Bruce, consumes lot of time and takes a lot of work to keep the ego legacy going on you know?

I'm pretty sure when things gets close to the end, he'll look over his California Saga band for his business tho

125  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson - 2017 Tour Thread (Pet Sounds - The Final Performances) on: March 10, 2017, 09:58:32 AM
I agree tho, it's a shame Blondie doesn't get some of his Holland/So Tough songs to play, and why isn't Ricky Fataar there? he was there on the Soundstage show! that looked so cool Smiley i guess it's another check to pay that is adding to an already long list of musicians and names, i'd see he would fit for a drummer tho, even for the C50 since he you know, wrote end played on classic Beach Boys records

I love Funky Pretty, such a classic typical Brian type song!

But yeah Sail Away is def some lazy Sloop John B, not sure if Brian is fully responsible for it, since you know how it gets hijacked (Joe Thomas) and especially this album with all the outside people involved, altho we do hear his TWGMTR leftovers that do sound like him (Beautiful Day, etc) i do am a sucker for the chorus tho, really works

I've being so out of loop, it's just ridiculous and embarassing! i need to check on that

That is not very reassuring, i'd be ultra bummed out if they drop Wake The World to bring back Isn't It Time Sad

I'm really sad Brians camp is still isn't pushing Love You, that album has a real underestimated cult, not just fanbase, but among celebrities, bands and artists such as Big Star, BMX Bandits, Patti Smith, Explorers Club praised it, etc etc

Brian has never done "Isn't It Time" solo, so I don't think that one is very likely. "Wake the World" seems to be to the liking of both Brian and Al, and it allows Al another lead (though I saw its first performance on tour in 2015 and Brian sang the lead), so I'd say the chances are pretty good of seeing "Wake the World" stay in the setlist.

Ah yeah true, i don't know i was just thinking out top of my head any other song that wouldn't be very welcome to replace Wake The World you feel me?

Good to know for WTW then Smiley
