Because there really is no substance to their music, which is fine usually but not when it masquerades as being something that does have substance. I find Radiohead to be empty, cold, emotionless, trifling, and silly and all of this is exacerbated by the fact that they take it so seriously.

Ok, well, subjective. I think the opposite. This song screwed with my head for a good 6 months: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qvv-LpTBWVk

Also Thom's voice is powerful and unique enough to keep him on lists of top rock vocalists of all time. I love him here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfmQe_eBvrc
128  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Syd Barrett / Brian Wilson on: April 14, 2012, 08:22:57 PM
Syd Barrett did what he was meant to do, then got out. Others work a whole career to get results like Syd got on just three albums, and no one talks about potential. He found it, and quit before he killed himself chasing diminishing returns. I admire that.

I agree with this.

Roger said in some interview that the performing didn't interest Syd (like Brian) and he also wasn't convinced Syd was that fulfilled by creating music (unlike Brian.)

I hope his painting made him happy.

I love Madcap Laughs but I never got into Barrett.
129  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Ok...(The Official 4chan Thread) on: April 13, 2012, 07:58:08 PM
I discovered 4chan during that time waaaay back when it was just a couple years old because I had a dumb after-school job that required little more than sitting at a desk.

4chan taught me to love and fear the internet. I don't visit much anymore but I will always be grateful to it.
130  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Beach Boy clothing on: April 13, 2012, 07:37:43 PM
Personally I'm looking for white & blue candy-striped short-sleeved shirts like the ones the BB were wearing in 1963-1967. Incredibly hard to find.  Undecided

I can NOT believe how impossible it is to find these!!! I fruitlessly scoured the internet a couple Halloweens ago for these. The only one I could find was being sold by Urban Outfitters for like $90.

Be it corpulent or sinewy, this is not a man who is afraid to showcase his bod.
132  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Your Second Favorite Band Next to the Beachboys on: April 13, 2012, 02:08:51 PM
Yknow who I hate? Radiohead. Theyre so pretentious, I just cant listen to them. To be fair, this is going from an oasis fan but oh god thom york sucks

gah! I am by no means a Radiohead-head but "Exit Music for  a Film" is one of the most beautiful songs ever! And pretty much all of In Rainbows! Come on!

There is some music that I love and connect with so much that I can't help but learn everything I possibly can about it and the people that produced it. Radiohead is absolutely not one of those, but the music speaks for itself, imo.

And yeah a lot of their fans are drippy deebees but that can be ignored, right?
133  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: So what actually happened to Taylor Mills on: April 13, 2012, 01:58:26 PM
Well.....................the rumor is...................that....................I think I'm in love with you, Ivy.

well i assumed as much but still no rumorz

She had nice hair and I liked to look at her during the shows. Maybe I looked at her too much.

hahahaha

Somehow I can't imagine Brian hitting the road again in 2013... at least not for another Greatest Hits summer tour. Guess it was just Taylor being nice / wishful thinking on her part when posting it on Facebook.

/selfishweepy

This would be an appropriate note to retire on but just....... wahhh nodon'tsayit'sover
134  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: So what actually happened to Taylor Mills on: April 13, 2012, 08:55:26 AM
This thread proving once again that it must be beneficial in some official circles to let speculation rule the narrative rather than simply reporting the actual story.

Exactly. Same ol' sh!t, different day, GF.  Thanks for telling it like it is.

Time for the Bullsh!t Police to move in here.

Whatever happened should just be told officially, because honestly the damned rumors and speculations may be more nasty than the actual story.

Wait what are you guys referring to? All I see in this thread are jokes and discussion of how much people like her in the band. Where are the dirty rumors?
135  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: So what actually happened to Taylor Mills on: April 12, 2012, 10:29:59 PM

Don't know if I would consider that an official confirmation.

don't blow out my flickering flame of hope.

i'll take what i can get Wink
136  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys \ on: April 12, 2012, 10:26:58 PM

Many fans are disconcerted if not deeply crestfallen at this, and we fear that in his desire to contribute to the reunion, Jeff had misunderstood his artistic and historical role.

Tell us more about how all of these fans feel. Surely we have a lot to learn.
137  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: So what actually happened to Taylor Mills on: April 12, 2012, 10:25:29 PM
She posted on her Facebook page a month or two ago that she hopes to be backing touring with Brian again after the Beach Boys reunion tour.

So that means Brian is going to get back to touring as a solo act when all of this is said and done?

And here I was preparing myself for the end..... yay!

139  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Zooey Deschanel \ on: April 12, 2012, 04:12:05 PM
Of course, you can't deny that she's pretty... but you can hate on anything else, lol.  So you chose to say you hate her "public persona" whatever the hell that is.

*point still proven

BTW, about Dennis: I'm a dude.  Hating on pretty chicks is PURELY a girl thing.  I couldn't care less what Dennis looks like, I like the guy!  Other good looking men I like:  Brad Pitt, Leonardo Dicaprio... well that's about all the good looking dudes I've heard of.

Sigh. Every point is just so wrong. At least you admit you are being backward and baldly sexist.
140  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Zooey Deschanel \ on: April 12, 2012, 03:54:25 PM
BTW, I'll bet She & Him don't have any female fans, since by definition they'd have to be prettier than Zoey... and that may not be possible.

....wut? Why do fans *by definition* have to be more attractive than the celebrity? I am a fan of plenty of super hot babes.

Do you think you are more attractive than Dennis Wilson?

Didn't you just trash her about two or three posts up?

*point proven

Yes but that has literally nothing to do with the fact that she is pretty. I even said she was pretty in that post.

*try again

She is pretty but I dislike her voice and loathe her public persona.

143  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The (Fictional) Crimes of Jeffrey Foskett on: April 12, 2012, 11:40:22 AM
Jeff Foskett is force-feeding Brian in order to appear more slender on stage in comparison.
144  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys \ on: April 12, 2012, 11:37:25 AM
Quote from: Dr. Lenny
Stage 1. Bashing Mike Love (lasted about 35 years)

Unjustified and one of the saddest things in BB history IMHO.
He didn't deserve that.

Come onnnnnn. Mr. Positivity? He deserves some of it.

There is much more on-record to smh at for Mike than for Foskett and Melinda. Everything on them is just he said/she said.

That reminded me of one I found a couple days ago:

that is a look that could cut glass
146  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys \ on: April 11, 2012, 02:49:42 PM
Speaking as a complete outsider who has never met the band, I think Jeff gets an unfair rap.  He does not have an easy job and I think he handles it fairly well.

Like Brian, my brother experiences auditory hallucinations and is medicated for it. You have no idea how quickly minding for someone with that condition can turn you into a narc and a terrible nag, especially when you are around them all the time like Jeff is. Think of how difficult it must be for Brian to stay aware and on task when he has so many internal and external distractions (and, possibly, general disinterest). Unfortunately, it falls into Jeff’s lap to keep him on track, even if that means dragging him along and losing some tact.

I know it must be horrifying to see this dynamic at play, especially when the person you perceive to be demeaned is a hero to you.  But could Brian tour successfully without someone playing that part? (whether or not he should be touring is another debate entirely) From what I’ve seen, Jeff’s nagging is always in effort to get Brian to appear at his best to the world. And I’ve never heard Jeff brag about his position.

In summation, I do not think that the examples provided should lead anyone to believe that Jeff is bad.

Am I missing something?

Well, they all look kind of funny but Brian looks bored and annoyed and the stands behind them make it seem like only a handful of people showed up for the game.

This is a better one!

WOW.

Why the hell would Brian's people post this picture on FB?
150  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys \ on: April 10, 2012, 05:58:37 PM

I don't want to burst your bubble, but I expect the concerts to be every bit as airbrushed as these admittedly poorly mixed tv appearances. Don't forget, most people buying tickets for the reunion shows won't know much about the band's history either. They will wants to hear the classic blend -- yes, with falsetto. If anything, the live shows will sound less like the Beach Boys, because you will have an extra 10 voices on stage.

I agree with the fact that lots of non-hardcore randos will be attending the reunion but I disagree that that will lead to an extremely washed out sound. Of course Jeff will be there on the falsetto. I expect to hear him on almost every song. But I also expect to hear the other guys strong and clear.

I think the difference between the Grammy audience and broadcast mix is evidence on my side. I guess I'll stay cautiously optimistic, for now.
