Undecided    Just because he was hot headed (ok, rude initially too) doesn't mean what he said didn't have some merit.
77  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: If you could only keep one album from the 1968-1973 period? on: January 29, 2015, 03:13:10 AM
Probably Friends. It doesn't have any of my favourite songs on it, but I like them all.  It's a gorgeous album, it's not like listening to music, it's like feeling it. The other albums have one or two songs on them I'm not keen on (Sunflower particularly)

Looks like you and I are the only ones awake tonight Wild-Honey!
This thread has certainly taken an interesting turn the last few posts, hasn't it?

Royce  Smiley

It wouldn't be SS if it didn't Wink

So?  Is there really anything left to discuss?  Based on your response to the e-mail I sent you...I'd say we're pretty much done here?  Thanks for your time.  Don't let anyone make you the scapegoat.  Anyone who buys THAT is far too easily conned.

Walk good Lorren.

Are you telling Lorren not to post here any more?  That's kinda what it sounds like.
80  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What did we learn at the Q&A? on: January 26, 2015, 09:21:27 PM
Hi Micha Smiley  Well considering I was still awake at 2am, yeah I could have  Cry   I don't really hate myself to death for it, I got sidetracked, and as you said I can read them at my leisure Smiley
81  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What did we learn at the Q&A? on: January 26, 2015, 08:57:55 PM
This has been wonderful Smiley  Considering it's the first time for this, the mods did a great job.  I stupidly (and I hate myself to death for it) got the date/time wrong, (damn southern hemisphere).  I did not at all expect to get my question answered, but it is something I really wanted to know as I'm fascinated by the subject (synesthesia) and I know I read it somewhere!!!  Brian picked the questions he wanted to answer and his replies were exactly how I thought they would be.  Those who got answered, You must be thrilled to bits!  Congrats!   w00t!
82  Smiley Smile Stuff / BRIAN WILSON Q & A / Synesthesia on: January 25, 2015, 09:44:28 AM
Hello Brian,  I was wondering if you have what is called synesthesia? At its simplest level, synesthesia means that when a certain sense or part of a sense is activated, another unrelated sense or part of a sense is activated at the same time. For example, when someone hears a sound, he or she immediately sees a color or shape in his or her "mind's eye."   I'm sure I read an article that hinted at this, but never found anything else.  Thank you! Smiley
83  Smiley Smile Stuff / Ask The Honored Guests / Re: The Lorren Daro Thread on: January 24, 2015, 07:24:21 AM
Well, yes, "cute" (leaving the other part for others to contemplate...) is actually an understatement when it comes to Wild-Honey...I think we are all happy to have her back from a bit of a hiatus here, and not just because of her looks, either.

Thanks Don,  that made me beam with happiness. I've had a tough time lately and I'm happy to be back here too Smiley
84  Smiley Smile Stuff / Ask The Honored Guests / Re: Daro thread pulled ? on: January 24, 2015, 04:51:23 AM
Just like when you've liked a band your whole life and then someone comes along and starts liking them too, and it's just soooo annnoying, right?  Cos you discovered them first,  and who are they to have an opinion...  THEY WEREN"T THERE AT THE BEGINNING!  Wink

Well, I just want to say right here that............I think you're a cute little booger.  Wink

That made me laugh, out loud Smiley   (adopting it)
85  Smiley Smile Stuff / Ask The Honored Guests / Re: Lorren Daro thread on: January 23, 2015, 03:15:09 AM
I find this all a little unsettling and have no idea why we are all so fixated with the past. The present is so exciting and for me far more rewarding as a "fan". I am more referring to the personal stuff.

I find the personal aspect the most interesting..  I like knowing what inspires someone to do something, or not do something.  Though, I remember reading Heroes and Villains and the David Mark's book and wincing at descriptions of Carl's. early um, "encounters"  I don't actually like reading or want to know that kind of thing.     I love this thread,  Lorren is describing what was happening around him and nothing really private is being told about anyone else,  mostly his opinions about people and events.   The past is interesting because it's what created the present Smiley

One more question from me:   Do you think Marilyn and Murry (possibly others)  were actively working with each other  in regards to  oppressing Brian's different direction with music/life? (This is kind of what I'm picking up from you??)   I understand this. Not saying I agree, but I understand (Fear does funny things to people).  Okay,  now I will leave the questions for the technical, far more informative and knowledeable SS'ers.  Smiley

Micha,  I thought that's what you were getting at?  How did he know who they were?  Eh, forget me, my brain isn't working so well :/
87  Smiley Smile Stuff / Ask The Honored Guests / Re: Lorren Daro thread on: January 23, 2015, 02:09:03 AM

Wild-Honey: I’m not sure I understand what you mean about being first to like a band. Can you elaborate? It sound like a question I would like to answer.  As to the second: “Anyway,  Lorren,  maybe  Marilyn was just scared to death of drugs, rather than trying to hold him back? Maybe she also didn't fit in with the crowd and felt intimidated?” Yes, all of that is true, and I don’t fault her for that. What I object to is that she was his wife, his life’s companion. If she wasn’t up to it, why did she marry him and take on the responsibility (a true and heavy burden at the time) of covering for him, for supporting him, for backing him up in difficult situations, to act as if she truly loved him instead of being completely obsessed with herself and her own needs? It is unforgivable, and I won’t give her an inch. If you can’t handle the job, get out and let him find someone like Melinda who can…

Lorren Daro

Thanks for your reply Smiley   And thanks for describing your life and yourself, you seem like an interesting person who's had a very interesting life, lucky you!   My first post was a cheeky reply to Mikie (about the band etc) .   I could argue a little bit with the supportive marriage bit (two way st etc), and I do think she was way too young to even comprehend what she was getting in to, but I get you are firm in your beliefs and you may be right for all we know Smiley  Thanks again for taking the time and effort to reply.

Hi Micha! Smiley   Hmm they wouldn't have had those big screens at concerts either?
89  Smiley Smile Stuff / Ask The Honored Guests / Re: Daro thread pulled ? on: January 23, 2015, 01:08:08 AM
One thing really cracks me up here. All the Johnny-Cum-Lately's that have made comments who weren't even around to read the first thread. They comment on the comments of the posters who were actually there to read Mr. Daro's initial posts with their own observations and after-the-fact comments. Some jump on the ol' proverbial bandwagon and some make it known that they're clearly not going to jump. It's just funny.  Cheesy

Just like when you've liked a band your whole life and then someone comes along and starts liking them too, and it's just soooo annnoying, right?  Cos you discovered them first,  and who are they to have an opinion...  THEY WEREN"T THERE AT THE BEGINNING!  Wink

Anyway,  Lorren,  maybe  Marilyn was just scared to death of drugs, rather than trying to hold him back? Maybe she also didn't fit in with the crowd and felt intimidated?

That's exactly what I mean AGD! Smiley  Fans oftentimes know more.  I wonder if Brian would remember when he moved to Bellagio?   Day to day life details?  Fans wouldn't know and Idols wouldn't remember Smiley

Hi RR!! Smiley  Nice to see a Miss Marple fan..  Hercule is my favourite though Smiley   I haven't watched many of the series though as I have a very fixed idea in my mind of settings, characters etc that it undoes the book somewhat for me. Does that make sense??  I haven't read any of Rex Stout, though I have heard of Nero Wolfe.. might have to have a look.
92  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: A Carl Conversation 1974 on: January 22, 2015, 03:27:14 AM
I remember finding this on the net last year (I think?)  It sounds kinda cliche and a little exaggerated.  I can easily imagine Carl being in that type of mood then though,  you are feeling fed up about it all and someone tells you they want what you've got.
93  Smiley Smile Stuff / Ask The Honored Guests / Re: Daro thread pulled ? on: January 22, 2015, 03:15:55 AM
This is so interesting!  Some of you have questions regarding exact dates/times etc?  You obviously know your stuff, but how often does a fan know more about the details of their idol than the idol themselves does?  How often does someone remember what month they moved house, let alone when an acquaintance did?  Would I remember what month one of my friends moved house 20 years ago?  Not a chance. A lot of people here know the details of recording sessions etc because they have studied it, researched it and live and breathe it,  you probably know way more than Brian does about it.  Not saying Loren is right or wrong....     Again this is so interesting!!! Smiley

Some good ideas and suggestions here Smiley  I used to read far more than I do, I would plough through books, now not so much, had some lifey things get in the way.  Need to sort that.  I've been reading a lot of health books that are very interesting, such as Grain Brain (about how certain grains cause disease, particularly neurologically). The last fiction was Life After Life - Loved it! Also the Rosie Project (also great, warm and fuzzy).  I like older novels and my favourite author is Agatha Christie, I have all her books and a few of her pseudonym ones.  When I feel a bit down I pull out one of hers, it's like a comfy pair of slippers.  I love Arthur C Clarke too, though I haven't read all of his.  A classic I really love is Vanity Fair and Far From the Madding Crowd.
95  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys DREAMS on: January 21, 2015, 05:25:28 AM
I had a dream about a year or so ago that I was walking down the street with someone and my tooth felt wobbly, I went to pull it out and my whole jaw came with it.  The other person said "get to a hospital now" so  all of a sudden we're at a dentist and I went to the counter and I was Carl and Dennis was with me. I stated that I needed an emergency visit (how I said this with no jaw, I don't know) and the receptionist said oh you are Carl Wilson!  Come right in.  When I woke I thought I meant I was going to get sick..  Freaky dream.

Also had a dream that Tom Cruise was a serial killer and he found out I knew and came after me. My dog turned into a human and saved me.  Smiley

Also I believe that Wild Honey is from Australia, a country with one of the strictest rulings on immigration in the world. So to have her claim that my wishing for less migrants in my own country is 'racist bile' sets the bells of irony ringing in my ears.

Australia has insane rules and attitudes towards immigration.  It's proving to be a real challenge for both sides of the political fence; and dividing the community.

However, Wild Honey's personal politics are not on the table, where as your's are - your claim of irony is guilt by association; and a generalisation based on policy that is not within Wild Honey's control.  And, therfore, a bit ropey.  Perhaps the bells of irony ringing in your ears is really the sound of yourself drawing a long, long (really long) bow.

Wild Honey is cool - if you've got a problem with her, you've got a problem with me...and I'm sure you're probably peeing in your pants, filling out your deed poll form and packing up your house at the thought of that.

*Sigh* - one of my personal rules here is to not get involved in anyone else's arguments - especially in the Wild West that is the Sandbox. But I think this thread has gone "beyond its (mother-fuckin') remit", so how about we get back to the facts and get it back on track.

And RBB, comon', set an example...

Thanks for your support Al, it means a lot Smiley
