1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Brother Records 45 Sleeves on: March 01, 2024, 08:16:47 PM
Did Brother Records ever use a company sleeve for their 45 single releases? As opposed to a picture sleeve.
2  Smiley Smile Stuff / Ask The Honored Guests / Beach Burlesque Lead Vocal on: February 02, 2024, 06:50:14 PM
I just heard "Beach Burlesque" on the internet. It's an outtake from MIU, 1977. Who does the lead vocal?

I sure hope that John gets back with The Cowsills. They just put out a new CD and are still sounding good. The touring bboys band has become a joke.
4  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Jim Gordon has died on: May 05, 2023, 06:08:49 PM
Jim should have been the #1 drummer choice. He was a better and more adaptable  musician and his drum sound and tone were better. IMHO

I can't fathom how someone who caused such physical and mental pain for the Wilsons was not paid back in full. And then there's that "book."  Family? WTF?

I think Mike really was tearing up. His expression matched it. This was not only a "This Is Your Life" show, but it very well may be the last one with his cousin, who sang "Danny Boy."  I wish Mike and Brian would have been seated in the middle. Just think if one of the artists would have come out and started singing "Teenage gambler, sitting in a Rambler, listening to the radio." What would have been their reaction?
7  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Stack-O-Tracks LP Set on: April 20, 2023, 11:30:34 AM
This may have been already mentioned or thought of, but how about a two or three LP set ala Stack-O-Tracks spanning their whole career?

Wow, pedal steel. Tony Jr. was a talented guy. Thanks!

Who plays the slide guitar lead on Marcella?

If you're not looking for Smile II, have an open mind and just want to have a fun listen, Looking Back With Love can be just that. I'd buy it just for Paradise Found, the duet with Joanie Sommers. I wasn't a George Michael fan, but I thought Listen Without Prejudice was a great title. BTW, I thought Brian's My Solution was great. You gotta love stuff for what it is and not worry that someone will think you're not cool. I got over that mentality years ago.

Looking Back With Love is still not available on CD. Also, Problem Child. I'd buy those.

Thanks, I'll check it out. There are some great musicians on those records.
13  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Quincey Jones' Musicians on: February 26, 2022, 12:20:28 PM
Does anyone know what musicians Quincey Jones used in his 1960's pop productions, such as Lesley Gore? Those guys were really good.
14  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Thread for various insignificant questions that don't deserve their own thread! on: February 09, 2022, 12:59:04 PM
In the latest ESQ, there is mention of an attempted "takeover by bad people" of The Beach Boys in the early 80's. Anybody know anything about that?

When I read that in ESQ I thought Landy

Exactly what I thought...

I've got a promo copy of "The Fastest Gun Alive." That was a great movie with Roy Orbison.

Who is Bob & Bobby? Twelve o Four and Baby What You Want Me To Do? Great record.
18  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 60th Anniversary Tour on: October 01, 2021, 09:47:30 AM
Yes, I have wishful thinking. As for The Honeys, it's so unfortunate that they never put out more music with Brian. I know it was circumstances, but it's still too bad.
19  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What songs did Brian play drums / percussion on? on: October 01, 2021, 09:22:08 AM
I don't think he played drums much, but that's a great question!
20  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / 60th Anniversary Tour on: October 01, 2021, 09:07:53 AM
If the Beach Boys have a 60th Anniversary tour, what are the chances of getting The Honeys involved?
21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Adam Jardine on: March 16, 2021, 08:31:29 AM
Thanks for the reply. I hope he comes back. One of my all time favorite albums is "Al Jardine Family and Friends Live In Las Vegas." It's pure joy from beginning to end!
22  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Adam Jardine on: March 15, 2021, 03:30:05 PM
Whatever happened to Adam Jardine? Has he given up music? He was a good singer.
23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What if the Wilsons had had a neighbor that played drums in 1961? on: February 24, 2021, 08:11:41 AM
Actually, I don't think Dennis would have been in the group either. It was just a crazy "what if" deal. Recently read "Becoming The Beach Boys" and all that early stuff was on my mind. One thing's for sure, Mike and Dennis up front  would have made The Kinks look like rookies.
24  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / What if the Wilsons had had a neighbor that played drums in 1961? on: February 23, 2021, 03:54:31 PM
They get him and Marks as the neighbor guys. This time when Audrey forces Dennis in, it would be as a singer. He would be freed up from drumming and could sing lead and harmony as he had done since the first album (in the studio.) The live harmony would be huge with an extra voice on each song. Sorta on a different note, isn't it strange that on most of The Beach Boys albums, Dennis doesn't drum a whole lot, but he sings lead and harmony on every album. Then on stage, he mostly drummed and didn't sing a whole lot. How I miss Dennis Wilson!!!!!
25  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Problem Child on CD on: February 05, 2021, 03:53:15 PM
Guilty pleasure might not be a bad way to describe it. I just want it on CD before my tape messes up.
