Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson - 2019 Tour Thread

Last night's show in MI was a great one. I took my brother who I don't think really knew any Odessey and Oracle, Friends or Surf's Up and he seemed blown away by the entire event. It was nice to hear all the rarely played songs. Diamond Head is usually one of my lesser picks off Friends but they brought another element with it live and it was way better. My only regret is not staying for Love and Mercy as I usually leave during the encore.

Any chance of the '70s Friends remakes making this release? That would be awesome but the new potential track info is already incredible!
I've never heard about this. What's it about? "By the early 1970s, Wilson's reputation suffered as a result of his eccentricities of lore, and he quickly became known as a commercial has-been which record labels feared.[31] When friend Stanley Shapiro persuaded Wilson to rewrite and rerecord a number of Beach Boys songs in order to reclaim his legacy, he contacted fellow songwriter Tandyn Almer for support. The trio then spent a month reworking cuts from the Beach Boys' Friends album.[32] As Shapiro handed demo tapes to A&M Records executives, they found the product favorable before they learned of Wilson and Almer's involvement, and proceeded to veto the idea" From http://www.wikiwand.com/en/The_Beach_Boys_bootleg_recordings#/citenoteFOOTNOTEBadman200426634Not sure if we'll get it since it's not from '68 but it would be pretty cool to hear these if they still exist.

you guys are crazy. carli's songs are my favorite songs on bambu. it's not too late is amazing. what a great carl vocal.
also, this interviewer is a joke. carli was so generous with giving such great answers to such poorly worded questions.
It seems like an e-mail interview to me. All of the questions were probably written out before answers were given.

The Sweet and Bitter track definitely sounds a lot like Mike. I'd say it's probably a 95% probability that it's him. Although it doesn't sound anything like a Sunflower era Beach Boys recording to me. To me it sounds more like an MIU or KTSA era recording.
I think that piano that comes in on "Sweet & Bitter" screams late 60's early 70's era Beach Boys.

Yeah, we were hoping for the "cantina" version, which never came. Should have known better, but there was alcohol involved. I've also done SOS before, and what I thought was cool about that was some older guy w/a Foo Fighters shirt came up to me and asked who sang it.

Hey all,
You guys should check out Zoom Jukebox Series - Volume 21 on Spotify, if you ever want to practice singing The Beach Boys Karaoke style. They only have "Add Some Music" & "Breakaway" actually, but the backing tracks/vocals are the best I've ever heard for karaoke. There's some other gems you can find on Spotify, too.
So, have you ever done a random BB tune at the bar? What were the reactions? My buddy and I did Heroes & Villains last winter and I think we nailed it! Such a fun song to do!

It happens. I have a couple friends who I used to be in bands with. I still like them, we still get along, I wish them well with their current projects and while the stuff they're doing now doesn't offend me or anything, it doesn't really do much of anything for me, either.
Same here. But obviously, Brian should mean a little bit more to Mike than, with all due respect, any friend that you or I have been in a band with at some time. Performing Brian's music has been Mike's full time job for the past 51 years, and Brian's music is the reason why he's rich, famous and will be remembered long after he's gone. If I had a friend who's music had done that for me, I'm pretty sure I'd bother checking out his next solo album. good call my friend Which is why he has most likely listened to his solo albums. I think it would be pretty silly to assume otherwise!

I don't believe any of those songs from the Paley sessions have been booted.
Although the Paley-BW song "Goin' Home" (not the TLOS song, which is entirely different) has a line about magic lanterns in it.
As for the Holy Man with Brian May and (I believe) Roger Taylor, I guess there were some record company issues. Never out, never (as far as I know) booted.
That kind of makes me excited to one day hear them, hopefully. As much as I hate not hearing stuff now, it really does make it sweeter when they finally become available. I always thought that the TLOS version of "Goin' Home" was a reworking of that song? It would be neat to put them back to back and listen. I might just do that! Also, never noticed the "magic lanterns" line in there. Thanks!

Are "In the Wink of an Eye" & "Everything's Alright in the World" out there in bootland, but called something different now? How about "The Tiger's Eye" & "Magic Lanterns," which seem to be from Sweet Insanity? Are we ever going to get to hear this stuff?!
Also, I'd love to hear Brian May's solo on "Holy Man." Whatever happened to that? Tell me internet. Tell me!
