As is now a tradition when Brian comes to town we will be having a get together at the Orient Hotel in The Rocks on the day between Brian's two Sydney Opera House shows.
Location will be The Orient Hotel, George Street, The Rocks from 5.00 to 9.00pm, Wednesday, 30 March. We have a private function room at the nightclub on the top floor of the hotel. Drinks and food available at the bar. Its all booked and ready to go.
Please let any Brian/Beach Boy fans in you network know about the event. I have changed computer and lost a lot of my email contacts in the changeover so please spread the word.
Visitors from interstate & overseas are very welcome to join us. We tend to be a friendly, drunken bunch!
If you have any questions feel free to PM me.
Tony

well "Hawaii" is one of those albums where the first part of the album is great but then after awhile all the songs just sound the same as the first songs and by the end of the album it sounded as if I was listening to the same song over and over again like they found a couple chords, basslines and instruments that sounded like the Beach Boys and reused them over and over,However, There's no doubt (in my mind) that "Leaf and Lime" sticks out like a sore thumb from the rest of it.
I like Hawaii, I especially enjoy it when I have the ipod on shuffle and a wonderful little musical interlude from Hawaii happens. To put Hawaii into perspective it came out a time in the folklore/opinion/theory around the unreleased SMiLE that Brian was working on a melodic theme which would work as a link between tracks and that link could be repeated throughout the record - the favoured theme at the time was the Bicycle Rider/H&V/Worms riff - O'Hagan took that folklore/opinion/theory and created Hawaii - technology helped

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Good Vibrations September 1965

Maybe this is a foolish question, but... While listening the new Party! Uncovered And Unplugged, CD 2 Track 38 [Fooling Around: The Boy from New York City (Party! sessions mix, session #5)], I've noticed that the piano playing sounds almost exactly the same as the piano Paul Dano plays in the scene while he is composing Good Vibrations with Mike, on the Love & Mercy film. Could it be possible that Brian already had Good Vibrations in mind as early as September 1965?
A number of years ago I pointed out the link between The Boy and Vibes ... the silence was deafening so I decided I was nuts ... thanks for bringing this up!

Reminds me of a topical tasteless joke that went around when Cleveland Indians pitchers Steve Olin and Tim Crews were killed in a boating accident prior to the 1993 baseball season. The boat collided with a pier.
The joke went:
What killed Steve Olin and Tim Crews?
Pier Pressure
Tasteless and the Daily Terrorgraph go hand in hand.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Alone On christmas Day ... new single

Mike and Bruce will be touring Australia in November and were on ABC Breakfast TV this morning .... usual jabba jabba with the interviewer asking uncomfortable question about their relationship with Brian but in the interview Mike said that they would be debuting their "new single" ... Alone on Christmas ... Mike said it was to be featured in the new Bill Murray movie and that it was an old song so I'm guessing its what we know as Alone On Christmas Day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLOITFxI0GE
