Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Sail On Sailor box set

Hopefully with the release of the Sail On Sailor set we have bid farewell to the last of Susie Cincinnati
Why would you think that? Don't forget that a different mix of "Susie Cincinnati" appeared on 15 Big Ones! So I assume there'd probably be yet another remix for a Brian's Back type set in the future. By the way, does anybody know what releases contain the 1970 single mix of "Susie"? I feel like it's probably not many. D'OH!

I'm also inclined to think if there is another big box set, it will likely and should focus on the live shows, from the early to mid 70s. All of the albums recorded after Holland were mostly EHHHHH....some worse. Don't think there would be a market for it, and not sure of the quality hat might exist there either.
That's an interesting thought, what if instead of featuring just '72 & '73 shows it was actually a comprehensive box set live anthology? I know I've constructed such a thing on my itunes and its a great listen spanning from '64 to '93. Needs an update know with the new live stuff on the FF & SOS boxes.

For my money keep the In Concert to 3 discs. Disc 1: the In Concert album. Disc 2: The rejected single album. Disc 3: Key and noteworthy tracks, such as River Song, and great performances of tracks not included in Discs 1 & 2. Then release on-line four or more selected shows recorded during the "In Concert" recordings in '72 & '73. A good start would be be the Capitol Theatre, Passaic show(s) from 16 November '72. There were around 17 shows recorded as far as I can tell, so there is a wealth or material. Full show releases need to be edited as anyone who is familiar with the Carnegie boot will know its full of tuning and unnecessary monologue when the tuning takes place - we can do without more of that! Release a fifth show on vinyl for Record Store Day '23 so that the elitist completists out there have something to brag about I'll happily wait until the needle drops start circulating.

Back in 2001 Starbucks released a Beach Boys compilation which at the time was regarded by some, including me, as one of the better Beach Boys compilations. It was called Summer Crush. Track list: I Can Hear Music, Don't Worry Baby, Sail On Sailor, GOK, Surf's Up, Wouldn't It Be Nice, Friends, Add Some Music, Sloop, Cool Cool Water, Disnet Girls, GV, Caroline No, Do It Again.

God bless Howie, Mark, Alan, Stephen, and everybody else involved. Gods among men. I'm almost in tears over some of this...
I've been having "what the f#*k" moments all day ... but that might be the wine ... or that might be the wine ... or that might be the wine ... any way its dark here and I can drink all the wine I want. PS Mr Desper all the way back then you took it to another level ... thank you.

Many thanks to Alan, Mark, Howie, Stephen et al for their superb work and fighting for its release. [/quote]
Amen to that!
I haven't been as thrilled about a retrospective Beach Boys release since those wonderful days of SOT boots - that moment of receiving a physical package shipped from Singapore, opening it and rushing to the CD player. This set really does pick up from where SOT boots left off ... 20 plus years and worth the wait to get it right. So excited about the next two years - So Tough, Holland and In Concert. Thrill me. Chill me. Complete me.
Thank gents!!

The box set of 5 cd’s is sitting in a record store 35 miles away… I’m gonna be there when they open their doors at 10AM eastern time here in the USA.
The Sunflower album was the one that got me started on the Beach Boys. And Surf’s Up was the first album I bought as a new release…
I’m frantic….
Settle petal ... just know that its everything you expect it to be and more ... now take a valium and chill ... or crack open a bottle of wine

Less than 18 hours to go ... (here in Oz)
Right on Tony! - the advantages of living close to the International Date Line!! Except that its 5.00am east coast Oz and my preordered itunes downloads haven't happened yet ... ggggrrrrr ... at least its up on Spotify

From the September edition of Record Collector (jump to the last sentence):
"Alan Boyd: We’re hoping to do another box set next year which focuses on the Carl And The Passions and Holland era. There are some fascinating unreleased songs that aren’t really finished. There are some really interesting early versions — all the layers of the music within the fairytale [Holland bonus EP Mount Vernon And Fairway] is really interesting to dive into. I can’t wait to hear The Trader with just the track and the backing vocals. And we’d also like to include one of the complete Carnegie Hall shows that they did in late 1972."

Next year they will have to release the Carneigie Hall show from 1972 - its already out there in bootleg form and they won't want copyright lapse and on the grey market. They have the full set in the vaults. Releasing that show would be a good teaser for a major In Concert release in 2023.

Fingers crossed that we do. They have the track record for a physical release followed by a digital release (1967 Sunshine sets). If I recall correctly when the You Tube teaser was released many (many many) months ago there was a sample from the Big Sur 1970 show so maybe that will finally see the light of day.
