1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: How Will TLOS Chart? - UK And US on: September 20, 2008, 08:55:37 AM
Just so you know, TLOS didn't even make the top 200 in France.  Undecided

Interesting..... As this was the only place I heard the album promoted, on a French radio station in early/mid August  whilst on a weeks holilday?!
2  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Has anyone met Brian Wilson? on: September 12, 2008, 03:11:25 AM
The STOMP convention in 88.. (TWENTY YEARS !!!??)
I was there, two rows back from the stage ( a very nice, slightly balding chap* sat just in front and I noticed a cassette recorder in his bag 'ready to go'.. something was going to happen.. surely he was'nt recording Mr Rivers and friends?)
Tech hitch curtains close... a few fingers (THE Fingers) hit a few keyboard keys..silence....   ..curtains pull back as keyboard plays (Surfer Girl I think was the song)..   My only thoughts were 'my god I can tell everyone I 've met Brian Wilson from now on !!!'.

He did three songs , S.G, N.T and L&M (w/ extra 'praying to ' verse)
There is a video of the event somewhere so I won't comment on Brians movements as such but we now know the cause which has long gone.

Great day.. I subsequently met ( in 1989) via work, another fan (still friends today) . Probably by our third conversation things turned to music -- B.W/Beach Boys - was I brave to admit I attend conventions? Only after realising what a real fan he was (i.e. he'd done Brighton early 70's, Knebworth etc) and what do you know?.. he too was there in '88!  BUT.. left early and missed Brian !!!

Ofcourse I still have my signed 'Brian Wilson' poster.
*Sorry Mr G.H  if your reading
3  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Compression and Clipping on TLOS - is it that bad? on: September 07, 2008, 03:58:23 AM
Used some audio software on my TLOS - a bit of stereo expander - bought up some intrumental lines wonderfully - gave the BV's better seperation and punch - thus smoothed 'in' the dodgy vocal moments from BW (most noticable on MAD- it's now georgeous) as a unexpected bonus.

Not too sure he would have noted 'set to'. 'VERY badly' is an over the top description if you were not musically trained etc.
So would assume he was referring to the inter group relations at said incident.....don't you?

10  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / SMiLE running order - I Ran/Child on: April 27, 2008, 11:45:49 AM
'I RAN' - listen to the CIFOTM trumpet line at he start (not repeated)... same as the track (CIFOTM) ,plus  note the key change to the track 'man' after the first few bars that include the trumpet line(once).
My suggestion for a new SMiLE mix is - Child- I Ran - Mama/Mama/- Wonderful.
Thus-   baby cry trumpet   -   grow, walk/run,,fun,toddler   -   mother   -   bumped into,a girl whose loved etc

Anyone good enough with the audio software prepared to try it? (maybe a clip of 'Rock w/ me Henry for good measure!)

Fouteen..... well done ! Considering the lyrical content., was this written during AL's problems w/ Lynda which spawned the top ten (UK) hit Laydy Linda?
