While I don't agree that the Beach Boys "lost it" after Smile, I do agree that there was a decline. The Beatles and Zeppelin were more consistent than the Beach Boys throughout their respective careers. The Beatles never had one bad album and Zeppelin too until Bonham's death. I think Friends, Wild Honey, Sunflower, and so on are pretty great albums but I don't think they reach any of the standards set by Pet Sounds or Smile or even the Today! album. I would certainly argue that the Boys had lost it creatively by 1978. Pink Floyd lost it after Roger Waters left.

Perfect way to close a Brian Wilson concert.
Which this pretty much is. Brian is the focus of the tour whether it's promoted that way or not. It has to be, otherwise I doubt he would go along with it. After all, it's pretty much the five surviving Beach Boys backed by the Brian Wilson band. None of those guys like Foskett or the Wondermints would do this without Brian. And they outnumber the Boys altogether. And personally, if Brian weren't involved in the tour and it were just Mike, Al, Bruce, and David; I would frankly have no interest in seeing that show. And I'm pretty sure I'm not alone on that.

BTW Ronald Reagan was the best president in history.
I don't mind people saying he was decent but best in history? Seriously? That's just ridiculous. I can name plenty of Presidents more politically significant than Ronald Reagan. Lincoln, Roosevelt, Adams, Kennedy, Truman... I can keep going. Ronald Reagan was a snitch (McCarthy trials anyone?), cut taxes for the rich while raising taxes for the middle class, tripled our debt, funded terrorists, refused to acknowledge the AIDS epidemic... the guy was just as bad as Bush.

What's the history of this relationship? I thought their friendships with John Stamos or the Captain and Tennille were cringeworthy enough but the Reagans??? The Beach Boys as right-wingers just doesn't sit right with me for some reason. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not judging anyone for their political views but these weren't just views. It would seem like these guys were completely open about their respect for Reagan (just like the worst of the Republicans) and performed for him multiple times. How did they get involved with Reagan? Was it just a publicity stunt? Can we just blame Mike Love (which is always the easiest way out)?
Its called Google... http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=Ronald+Reagan+Beach+Boys&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8Nothing in there answers my question.
