The whole movie is streaming free here.

It's not as bad as I thought it would be but it's still a huge slice of cheese.  Kevin Dunn is good in it.

Charles Manson: "That's Why God Made the Radio is a nightclub. "Spring Vacation" means confusion. Literally. It doesn't mean any war with anyone. It doesn't mean that those people are going to kill other people. It only means what it means. "The Private Life of Bill and Sue" is confusion. Confusion is coming down fast. If you don't see the confusion coming down fast, you can call it what you wish. It's not my conspiracy. It is not my music. I hear what it relates. It says 'Rise!' It says 'Kill!' Why blame it on me? I didn't write the music. I am not the person who projected it into your social consciousness."

Brian: "It's my favorite album because Ringo Starr told me it's his favorite album."

Murry:  "Needs more syncopation.  Like this.  Is-n't IT time WE bop de doo bop dee bop."

I haven't seen it on recently but there was a point where Brian's Pet Sounds Live in London circulated as part of the Classics in Concert series for a little bit.

Well I don't think anybody on this board or any fan at all would be disappointed if they dropped Ballad of Ole Betsy, Then I Kissed Her, and Why Do Fools Fall in Love in favor of say maybe Caroline No, Surf's Up, and Wonderful.
2357  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Where is this from and where can I see more??? on: June 12, 2012, 02:10:37 AM

Thanks for the info!  I was able to find another longer video from that show of them doing Do It Again, Wild Honey (in much better quality than I posted above), and Help Me Rhonda with Carl on lead vocals (guess they were shuffling leads all around at that time).  Pretty cool stuff.

This might be the only filmed footage of the live Holland-era Beach Boys I've ever seen.  Blondie on vocals.

I don't know why Carl isn't singing lead but Blondie hits it out of the park anyhow.

I really don't get this whole love for Barbara Ann, okay it's fun and a huge success, but come on.

The Beatles equivalent would be You Know My Name (Look Up the Number) which was the B-side of Let It Be.  Just a silly jam with funny voices.  The fact that it was one of their biggest hits is mind boggling.  I can even understand Kokomo being a hit and still not understand Barbara Ann.  Like I said, the song itself is pretty good but the Beach Boys version is just not very appealing to me.  It was never even meant to be a single, Little Girl I Once Knew clearly should have been the bigger success.
2360  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Rolling Stone: Best BBs Songs on: June 11, 2012, 06:38:46 PM
"Barbara Ann" > "Surfin' USA" ... Got it.
...and we wonder why it is always in the setlist; Beach Boys' and Brian's (solo). Can't argue too much with the remaining nine, though.

Actually I don't think the list justifies Barbara Ann as much as it says that the setlist should include Surf's Up.

I've always really liked Barbara Ann as a live staple of the band's shows but the Beach Boys studio version is so rough and half-assed with all the laughter and Ba-Ba Black Sheeps that I really don't understand the success it had as a single and it annoys me that it's always featured in compilations as that version rather than say the Live in London version which I like a lot.
2361  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / "Isn't It Time" and "Beaches in Mind," way too similar? on: June 11, 2012, 01:56:38 PM
They're both decent songs (and nothing more than that really) but lyrically and thematically, I find them way too similar and I feel they should have just picked one to put on the album.  Once I hear "Isn't it Time" and later on I hear "Beaches in Mind," I can't help but feel some deja vu and I just want to say "Okay guys, I get it, you're back together, it's been too long..."  Anybody else agree?
2362  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Your custom \ on: June 11, 2012, 01:47:11 PM
1. Think About the Days
2. Do It Again
3. Isn't It Time
4. That's Why God Made the Radio
5. Shelter
6. Don't Fight the Sea
7. Beaches in Mind
8. Strange World
9. From There and Back Again
10. Pacific Coast Highway
11. Summer's Gone
2363  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys Finally make the cover!! on: June 10, 2012, 04:04:46 PM
That is too funny.  Hopefully, their next magazine cover will be something bigger... like AARP.  LOL

But that's the way Brian played them at his solo shows, even after the Smile tour.  Therefore they should now be considered the definitive versions to play.
2366  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / No Beach Boys on the Bonnaroo webcast :( on: June 08, 2012, 05:13:19 PM
I was disappointed to see that they're not on the lineup this weekend.

I think it is kind of strange that they're on a tour off the heels of the success of The Smile Sessions yet there's barely any Smile material on the tour at all.  I'm surprised Surf's Up at least hasn't been included in the setlist.
2368  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Acoustic Album?? on: June 08, 2012, 01:07:38 PM
They should do an MTV Unplugged album...  MTV Unplugged still exists, right?
2369  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Heroes and Villains and Good Vibrations on the tour on: June 08, 2012, 12:49:10 AM
Any reason why they don't do the Smile versions?  Like no "hum-de-dums" on Good Vibrations or the "In the cantina..." bridge on Heroes and Villains, are they just shortened for time?
2370  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Should \ on: June 08, 2012, 12:40:37 AM
I kind of hoped iTunes would have Do It Again as a bonus track (as I've been uninterested in all the redundant crap "exclusive" compilations Capitol has been throwing it on).
2371  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: No Dennis and Carl Dedication on: June 08, 2012, 12:36:41 AM
Dennis and Carl have been gone a long time now.  Perhaps they're just moving on.  You can only dedicate to a person's memory so many times.  After a while, it could start to lose meaning.  I think we all know by now that they were a huge part of Brian and his life but he's moved through it and this album is all about the present and the future.
2372  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video on: June 08, 2012, 12:30:18 AM
But that was actually a pretty bad video.  It looked like a montage of unrelated car commercials with gratuitous bikini shots.

Spot the "Love You" album at 0:59.  Grin
2374  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: How would Brian sound now if he hadn't ruined his voice? on: June 06, 2012, 07:09:09 PM
I think he would sound the same.  Since the mid-90s, he pretty much stopped trying to sing high and by just singing what comes naturally, he sounds like his 60s self, just older.
2375  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Rolling Stone Set is online on: June 06, 2012, 05:20:03 PM
Hey did you guys know that Paul McCartney told Brian that God Only Knows is his favorite song?  Crazy!  Who would have guessed?

I got a lot of love for McCartney but I couldnt care less what he thinks about GOK as he never wrote anything as good as it. Wish the Beach Boys realised that.

While I don't necessarily agree with you, I was joking as Brian seems to make sure to mention that in every single interview he gives.
