This story kind of reminds me of what happened with Paul Simon and Edie Brickell a couple of years back. They called it a misunderstanding and even showed up in court together to refute the charges and they moved on. I’m sure Dave and Carrie will be fine.

Having been exposed way too many times via the SiriusXM channel to tracks off "Unleash the Love", I can only hope any additional work Mike does in the studio does *not* involve Michael Lloyd in any way.
Mike's "original" circa 2004 "Unleash the Love" stuff was far from a masterpiece, but it's immensely less grating to listen to than his 2017 set helmed by Lloyd. Get a new producer, and leave out the autotune. That alone would make even the most tedious and unimaginative of future Mike "Christmas" album tracks much more palatable.
I don’t understand why Bruce doesn’t produce Mike. He produced extensively in the 70s, LA Light Album is a great sounding album.

The Beatles channel aired some of a Van Dyke Parks interview for their tribute to Derek Taylor and I was thinking how cool it would be if Van Dyke had his own weekly show, kind of like Peter Asher’s show on the Beatles channel. Call it something like “The California Sound”. He definitely has the voice and eloquence of a radio host and of course he has a lot of history with The Beach Boys and their surrounding circles, not dissimilar from Asher’s relationship with the Beatles.

Not the best day for songs today. I must have heard Sail on Sailor, some of your love, and break away at least five times each throughout the day. Also Bruce Johnston talked about what a great song Forever was and what a great job Dennis did in writing it...... and then they played Disney girls! And Mike love talked about Carl Wilson and what a great vocal he did on God only knows.....and then they played Brian Wilson's vocal version of God Only Knows, not Carl's. Strange day!
If you were referring to the version on the Pet Sounds Sessions boxed set... I thought it had come out that that was actually Carl not Brian It’s still credited to Brian on the 50th Anniversary set.

I know it will be gone in a few months so they’re probably not going to make any changes but if it comes back next summer, I would love to see a more structure on the channel. Celebrity DJ sets, fan made playlists, maybe some full concerts from the archive. I’ve really enjoyed the channel for what it is but there are so many more cool things they can do with it.

If you were young then, it was relevant.
I understand the relevance of the Kent State Massacre. I’m saying the song is a poor response to it. “I know we're all fed up with useless wars and racial strife But next time there's a riot, well, you best stay out of sight” to me says, yeah it’s rough but there’s nothing we can do about it so don’t get involved because it’s dangerous. Also the “Bachelor of bullets” line strikes me as a little insensitive to the victims. It’s like Mike heard CSNY’s “Ohio” and wanted to do a song like that but lacked the social awareness (and songwriting skills) to say something equally effective.

I'm not making this up, a guy just requested "Student Demonstration Time."
Just wondering, do fans hate this song because it's a re-write of a classic 50's song? I kinda like it because it's unique; I'm still wading my way through the group's career. I don’t like it because the lyrics are politically tone-deaf and that siren is like nails on the chalkboard.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Have the Beach Boys ever had any good film/video promos?

Regarding the "Good Vibrations" promo film, I'm sure part of the lack of acute awareness of the film among some fans the lack of it having a more widespread iconic stature is probably due to its availability or lack thereof over the years.
It has been released on a couple of "bonus" DVDs in the last decade or so in one or two "Pet Sounds" sets. Prior to that, it wasn't super easy to even track down and see outside of video trading circles.
It also doesn't help that it appears no restoration/HD scan has been done on the film. In other words, it has always looked rather murky and of relatively low quality. Even the official version on the official BB YouTube channel still looks like a 30-year-old video transfer of an old film print or something.
Even on the "Endless Harmony" documentary or the "Sight and Sounds of Summer" bonus DVD, they chose to go with the '68 Ed Sullivan Show GV performance to represent the song.
Pretty much anything the BBs did in the 60s, including the relative hand full of non-performance based promo films (e.g. "Friends") are more interesting than what they churned out in the 80s or 90s. But it's understandable that the original '66 GV promo film isn't as iconic as it could have been. I think it's interesting and I'm all for analysis of it. I'm not sure how substantive I think it ultimately is, but I appreciate that some thought went into it, and I'd love to see an HD scan (of even a film print if the negative is long gone).
There’s another Good Vibrations video from around 1970 I think with the guys miming while being embraced by some scantily clad women. I saw it on YouTube some years ago but like with most rare Beach Boys clips, it’s since been taken down sadly and I haven’t seen it anywhere else since.

They seem to pull "Rock and Roll Music" and "It's OK" often from "GH Vol. 3: Best of the Brother Years", yet not a lot else.
Those are unique single mixes, which is interesting because they tend to favor of late the album versions for compilations. They are unique mixes (well, "It's OK" is the same mix just sped up), but they also pull other album songs from both albums and comps. But it's not impossible they've vetted GH Vol. 3 to just pull the unique single mixes. They’ve also been playing the version of “California Saga” from that compilation with more prominent Brian vocals.
