To me, 'Village Green Preservation Society', 'Arthur' and 'Muswell Hillbillies' are their three masterpieces. Though very different, they are all incredible pieces of music that I could listen forever to.
'Face To Face', 'Something Else' and 'Lola' are very good, too, but, IMO, not in the same league as the three mentioned above.
I'm still working on their other albums. Is anyone familiar with their post 'Sleepwalker' work? Is there something worth checking?

Unfortunately neither album is without fault. There are songs that are, for lack of a better term, filler.
I disagree. I love every song on 'Sunflower'. Same here. 'Sunflower' is probably the only Beach Boys album besides 'Pet Sounds' on which I truly like every single song.

I agree with Sail On,Brian: "Let The Wind Blow" from In Concert {1973} is simply Majestic. Carl's voice is absolutely Stunning!
And whilst we're on In Concert, "Sloop John B." from In Concert just happens to be my Favorite of all the versions I've heard in the last 40 years.
Bri~
They did it great, but IMO 'Sloop John B.' without Brian's falsetto in the middle eight is just not the same.

Also, I prefer the Adult Child material by far. 'Life Is For The Living', 'It's Over Now', 'Everybody Wants To Live' and 'Still I Dream Of It' are definitely better than almost anything from M.I.U. .
Especially 'Everybody Wants To Live', I can't believe how much potential that song has. Just imagine all guys joining Brian for the chorus. It could've been absolutely magical...

Not the worst album they ever made, but close. Very poor indeed. I'm slightly baffled by some of the enthusiasm expressed here for what is such an atrocious record but each to their own I suppose... There's a few highlights (She's got Rhythm is ok-ish, My Diane is a good, solid track) but mostly it's just appalling. LA was a big, big improvement and doesn't deserve to be stuck on a two-fer with MIU.
I agree about L.A being a whole lot better. I, personally, feel like in heaven when the boring beyond belief 'Winds Of Change' ends and I hear Carl's amazing voice kicking in with 'Good Timin' '. It's just the best breath of fresh air a Beach Boys fan can get. A few good songs, namely 'She's Got Rhythm' and 'My Diane' and a couple of decent tunes : 'Sweet Sunday Kinda Love' and 'Hey, Little Tomboy' surrounded by boring, uninspired and dissapointing efforts. A 2.6 rounded up to 3.

those are the 3 songs from that album i enjoy so i can understand why you like them lol..the heroes return and the gunners dream are also great songs. 'The Gunner's Dream' fading into 'Paranoid Eyes' with that cat moaning, those footsteps and then the piano line coming in is another breathtaking moment on the album. Not to mention Roger's voice fading into the sax in 'The Gunner's Dream'. Just beautiful moments everywhere.

wow your the first person that mentioned the final cut..i'm suprised that anyone likes that album..
'The Final Cut' has always been a top favourite of mine. It took a while to grow, but it was worth it. The final 3 songs together form probably one of my favourite moments in the history of Pink Floyd. The Final Cut is an amazing album. That is where Waters finally achieved the wracked intensity of Barrett, which he had been chasing since Syd left the band. Listen to Barrett's Dark Globe, then Floyd's The Fletcher Memorial Home, compare the voices, and you'll know what I mean.
That's a very good point and I couldn't agree more. It's good to see that the album gets the recognition it deserves.

I was going through some topics from 'General Discussion' and I read this : The main reason for Carl's slide to the dark side was the breakdown of his marriage. Falling down drunk/stoned at that show in Australia may have been the turning point for him. Maybe that and seeing how bad things were getting for his two brothers. See, that's why I maintain that Carl stayed basically "sane": a sane person who momentarily loses control can bounce back much easier than someone who is deeply, permanently scarred.
Is there a video with Carl falling down ? Or even footage?
