Stiff Proposition...
3  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: BWPS: How much input did Brian have? on: July 12, 2006, 03:29:03 PM
maybe we should start with who's idea it was to work on it in the first place...haven't read all of every post, but...I say Melinda, if that matters...to answer the original question--less than 50%, Brian probably wanted to get it done, get it out there, and move on...

kinda wonder who's idea it was to assemble a BEACH BOYS version of SMILE on iTunes ?

[edit]well, it was there a day or so ago...
4  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: "Beach Boys Perform SMiLE" on sale at Apple's iTunes... on: July 10, 2006, 07:34:45 AM
I saw Carl and the Passions on there this morning?!

just saw it as well,  but "World..."  NOPE, not yet anyway, and that iTunes looked different, though not by much...
they have the GV ep though...

damn, I guess I was wrong...found it...it's an assemblage from various legal sources-- no "mrs. o'leary's cow" for instance...not essential IMO...
5  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The touring band on Imus this morning... on: July 07, 2006, 09:21:33 PM
had a discussion with some friends last night (til 4 a.m.) that touched on, among other things musical, the idea that older songs tend to be played rather fast...I said it feels like a case of "let's get this over with..." my friend Ozzie said no that's where the energy is,people want that energy...we agreed to disagree...Ron gave the BBs a "4"...Judging from his post, he should've given them a "2"...I thought  the GMA was a "4"and the Imus was a "7" or so...but that's just me...
6  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The touring band on Imus this morning... on: July 07, 2006, 07:03:42 PM
I think Ron is exaggerating a little-not much, but a little...the Imus performance was better, maybe being indoors makes a difference...
7  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Re: Ever feel like giving up music? on: July 05, 2006, 12:12:37 PM
Feeling the intimidation of others is just an aspect to what I guess is an insecurity I have with myself. It's often simply seeing people with such direction with their own music/careers/lives whereas I (self-imposed) have hardly any. That of course can get a person down for some time. Sometimes I find myself so incapable of "lightening up" and joking around with people whom I haven't know for a long time. Inside though i'm a chatty little person, though this will never leave my head when i'm with a group of people. This side of my personality while able to be fixed is a major bummer for lack of a better word. There are attempts i've made to be as social and outgoing as possible but those attempts are often shot down by similar insecurities that get me. A good nap usually takes care of that though to be honest. I'll find my body forcing me into sleep when i'm upset, almost as if it's the only way to get over that feeling.

Wow, this is a paragraph I could have written ... I think I know how you feel.

As far as giving up making music ... I have been thinking about this a lot lately. Over the past few years, I've found it increasingly difficult to summon the energy and interest necessary to make any home recordings (or even get as far as writing a song). It used to be great fun and therapeutic for me, but I don't find that to be the case lately. It does seem more like a chore.

I do wonder if the solo overdubbing approach (which I've done since I was a teenager) has a lot to do with this. I think the opportunity to work with other musicians would definitely excite me and get me more into it.

So there are people who feel the way I do...my two cents--take  a break, don't quit completely...and I don't think being a local legend would be all that bad...if you're playing Music, and people like it and you're not working in a grocery store, what's the problem?  If you really really wanna be the next (fill in the blank) that's OK, get in line...I would be perfectly satisfied with hometown sucess...on a personal note (no pun intended) I would LOVE to give up the grocery store...I am primarily a musician rather than a songwriter, but a talented one, so I've been told--no I wasn't standing in front of a mirror...If I could, I'd ask God to take away my drumming chops and make me a songwriter...as long as I could stil play guitar and bass and sing harmony... but I haven't given up TRYING to write songs...maybe that's my point--this is way more than two cents, innit ? DON'T GIVE UP--take a break, recharge your batteries...if this talent we have IS God given (dunno how else to explain MY [self-taught] ability)  then we probably shouldn't throw it away...

Two thoughts --

1) Scooter, that whole immigration thing is becoming a HUGE issue in the US especially regarding illegal immigration.

2) While it is true that age brings wisdom and we should share it, there are two types of people:  those who listen to others and don't require experience (but also are a little more hesitant in life to get things done), which would be me, and those who have to experience things to learn (but probably also boldly do things that need done in some cases).  Neither way is right or wrong, but I have learned to just blow it off when a teenager ignores counsel -- they may learn it from me or from life, but they will learn eventually.

regarding your first thought--I'm gonna leave that one alone for now...gotta watch my blood pressure...
as for #2--I don't think age AUTOMATICALLY brings wisdom, but however old a wise person might be, they should share it
and prepare to be ignored...as far as being hesitant in life to get things done, that hit so close to home the walls shook...
and OF COURSE  teenagers ignore counsel (from their wise elders) that's part of the job description for being a teenager, at
least it was when I was a teenager...

Born in England and lived there for twelve years then moved here to New Jersey. Been here a long time now, which I hadn't realized until recently.

kinda surprised that America doesn't force immigrants to become citizens...at least not yet...
not that I know of anyway...
regarding the musical performance--was it FUN ? for somebody? anybody?
THAT'S should be what matters...was it good? well, er, uh, hmm...(cough)
just an old geezer's opinion, and IT doesn't matter, either...
10  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The vocal handoff on: June 26, 2006, 08:43:52 AM

Also, did you ever notice that Brian sings the very high lead vocal part (the final line of the bridge:  "Church, bingo chances, and old time dances") on "Disney Girls"?  That's where the term "ghost singing" came from...Brian would step in and "ghost sing" lines the others couldn't reach.

Craig

I, for one hope it's Bruce...who sings the last line (before the "tag") of 'Til I die ? It doesn't sound like the same voice who sang on Disney Girls...

Damn! Why does this book seem like it's taking FOREVER to get released!

Hurry!

(I went to a couple of book stores to see if they had some copies accidently put on shelves.)

And now a word from our sponsor:

Mike Love--"The hatchets are right here..." THAT doesn't sound to me like a guy who meditates much at all really...Yes Mike you got screwed; are you homeless or living on welfare?  No ? Then shut the f*** up, even with the alimony payments you're probably better off than I am...You wanna make a shitload of money ? Bury the hatchets, do a reunion show, put it out on DVD...and don't forget to meditate...

in my case it's not about Music (yet)--Technology is still a bit of a puzzle...it's all about the words, so stop by; I hope you like it, but if you don't, that's OK too...

shoulda said Gone With the Wind...went for laugh-no get...(MASH [TV] reference)...

maybe Brody had a twin brother...Money Changes Everything...
17  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: a new JAWS? on: May 30, 2006, 03:37:13 AM
come on, why? i reckon it's just a rumor...what's everyone think of the first Jaws film? I think it's one of the greatest movies ever...it's just a shame it had to be reuined into being a franchise...much like Superman or the prequals to Star Wars...just in it for the money...

anyways, about jaws, the trio is amazing...Quint, Brody, Hooper...it doesn't get any better than that...

it's like other amazing trios:
-Egon, Peter, Ray
-Dusty Bottoms, NEd Needlelander, Lucky Day
-sara, terminator, john
-General Zod, Non, and Ursa

etc, etc, etc

moe, larry and shemp...a remake of Jaws ? I guess Hollywood HAS run out of ideas...Jaws may be a tad overated, but not by much...Duel is good though...it's gonna be on shortly in fact; How about a remake of Back to the Future ?

in the TM Song (15 big ones) during  the mock (?) argument, somebody, I think it's Mike, screams YOU keep outta this...the "YOU" is WAY WAY up there...though I guess technically that's not singing...

All BB sites have backbiting and bullshit. They're frequented by people, people are full of both.

couldn't have said it better...5 BB sites, one Roches site, a Elvis Costello site and Thrasher's Wheat (Neil Young)--
that's probably enough, right ? The Spam hit the fan when Neil released LIVING WITH WAR--talk about backbiting and bullshit...wow...

Look outside at the sunset. That's proof.

not proof enough...

Does this mean we'll have to GROW our own Archives ?
