Finally got round to seeing the Don Was "IJWMFTT Doc".

In the part when Carl talks about mike love not liking the smile stuff. Carl says "personally i loved it" .

His body language and the tone of his voice suggest to me that he is lying. Anyone else think this or am i imagining it?

This sounds great, really nice arrangement apart from the sax which is really loud and does not fit IMO

more surprising still was his claim in dublin never to have heard pacific ocean blue. I thought for a moment david leaf was gonna say "cmon brian you've heard that" but he stayed quiet

brian's definitely heard POB and in fact has said he loved it in more than one interview. I'm wondering how that question was put to him? If someone said POB or Pacific ocean Blue it might not have jogged his memory, as opposed to someone saying Dennis' solo LP. I have an interview Brian gave to an east coast radio DJ just a few months ago... and in it he says he liked Dennis solo record, but that he DID NOT  like Carl's two.

As far as i can recollect it was put to him as dennis's solo album pacific ocean blue. I think he knew what the question was, he just did not feel like talking about it (wanted to get away as quick as possible)

Ive often wondered if their original name "smile" had something to do with the beach boys also another slight connection was that freddies first solo release was "i can hear music" under the name larry lurex

I actually thought this was a little better until i listened to it yesterday. Il give it a generous 2. Sweet sunday kinda of love, My diane (ok song, certainly not as good as some people make out), hey liitle tomboy (great song pity bout the lyrics), woncha come out tonight is kinda fun if stupid . The rest are very poor especially kona coast (one of the worst bb songs i have ever heard, pair it with "california calling" for a double a side release" ), pitter patter , matchpoint and winds of change. Dont think il listen to this one for another year or so..

Beulah are probably in my top 5 bands ever (actually no probably about it) . Really like of montreal as well, though im finding most of their albums ive got dont live up to the excellent "gay parade" album. NMH album is great, have some other related stuff as well like the minders and ladybug transistor which are quite good.

Getcha Back is a guilty pleasure but overall unbelievable crap most notably "passing friend" (boy frikkin george writing for the beach boys  ) and "California Calling"

Thanks for the kind words guys. That version was done last may,  good bit added to it since , will put a full version of it up in a month or 2 when i have it fully mixed and mastered.

Will give all the bands on this thread a listen at the weekend (when i have headphones and a soundcard). Course ya know already i like yer stuff richard.

4 for me, i dont get why so many people dont like this album. Far better than miu, ktsa or anything that followed. Good timin, baby blue, love surrounds me, Full sail, Angel come home are all great. Lady lynda, sumahama and HCTN all suck but the good easily outweighs the bad
