what's even the point of interviewing BW these days?

I know this isn’t huge, but The RZA (Wu-Tang mastermind) briefly mentioned The Beach Boys is an interview with RollingStone.

Here is the excerpt:

RZA: I think as far as my energy is concerned, I’m definitely at the level of life where I kind of take it seriously but don’t take it so seriously. I’ve definitely had fun in my day. It’s gonna be sunny days. It’s gonna be cloudy days. You look at a song like “Ana Electronic.” To me, you’ll never find a song like that on a Wu-Tang album. As far as my performance on it, it’s very quirky. I wouldn’t even say it’s lyrical. It’s not like I’m conscious of my lyrical content. I didn’t care about my lyrical content. Sometimes when an artist writes his lyrics, he’s trying to write the best as if he wants everybody to praise him. In the particular song, I was just having fun. It goes along with the fun in the music and the fun that his voice was bringing. It has not gravitas to it. It’s like listening to a Beach Boys' song.

I wish we could find out what albums/songs The RZA likes from the BB's catalogue. Him talking about Brian Wilson could be a whole interview itself

I'm excited for this album. Some good sounds so far, and Wyatt Funderburk, one of the newest members, is a terrific musician. I haven't however actually listened to Freedom Wind...

Been listening to 'Eternity's Children'. What a great slice of sunshine pop from the late 60's. Wonderful album.

Sure, its a BB rip off, but when it sounds this good, im not going to complain.

I wish there were more Beach Boy albums that were produced during the 60's after PS/Smile that had this sound. Just my opinion. (nothing beat the real thing)

I just discovered Summer Girl by New Sound Spectrum and Stop by Spring Fever which I can't stop listening to.

I am constantly amazed at the nuggets floating around from this genre. Did Brian influence this whole genre? I honestly think he did! The style anyways: the harmonies, production, backing track, overall style, theme and feel that is Sunshine Pop

In addition, I think this style/genre allows one to appreciate the song while generally putting up with the anonymity of the band! And I'm OK with that! If you can find one stellar, great, knockout track by a band then that's enough. I find some "bands" from this genre have 2 or 3 standout tracks and that's it. The history/information concerning the details of said band are lost to time. But the amazing track survives. I find perhaps I am not hung up on the details of the band (i.e. knowing who each band member was) It certainly isn't John Paul George and Ringo. With that being said I do appreciate the limited amount of information that survives (like say that Curt Boettcher produced a track). Discuss.

So...what does sunshine pop do for me? Well, it stirs feelings of my original musical love: Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys. Listening to "I Believe In Her" by the Trade Winds gives me feelings of peace and relaxation. I can hear the wind as it dances on heights high above my head, that warm breeze that tickles your face on a hot July day. I can see the sparkle of sunshine punching through the trees on a summer day.  My mind can appreciate these seemingly simple but incredibly complex sunshine songs. My heart can be Brian Wilson "happy sad": love lost, love now, potential love...that one girl...a mirage of summer. I can whenever I want live the endless summer by pressing play. Now that is Sunshine Pop: an obscure highly underrated genre that I am glad to have discovered on my own volition and through the help of the wonderful members of this board.

Love A Midsummer's Day Dream by Mark Eric...If I had to choose a favorite track it would be  "I'd Like To Talk To You"...what a great tune. And I love the bonus track "Place For The Summer"...so awesome.  Love the Yellow Balloon: Panama Red is so so great. Great quirky little track. Short and sweet. We should all start an exclusive definitive Sunshine Pop thread for those interested in that genre. I am always scratching around YouTube looking for hidden nuggets.

'Ive Got a Feeling For Love' has an amazing ending. the last 30 seconds are awesome "i cant wait to make you my (little girl), just cant wait to make you my...."

Also, 'Follow The Sunshine' is a great tune. love how the tempo changes after the first 20 or so seconds

My favorite of the obscure BW wannbes from the 60s is that album by Mark Eric 'A Midsummer's Daydream'. That one really hits the mark. I don't know anything about him but he sounds a lot like Brian, and wrote some good melodies for that album.

I have this album aswell. It certainly has a melancholy vibe about it - like a lonely Californian sunset over the ocean.

Very good in parts though with 'Dont Cry Over Me' being my fav. 'Sad Is The Way That I Feel' is also a good track

Any disc with "How Can I Be Down" is ok in my book.
The vocals at the end of that are astonishing.

Honestly, I have zero hope that this biopic is going to be any better than the previous attempts at telling the BB/BW story through film that isn't a documentary.

John Cusack is just so fuckin' John Cusacky that all his attempts at acting are just like "oh, wow, look at John Cusack pretending that he's not John Cusack."

Paul Dano has the potential to play a pretty good Brian Wilson, but John Cusack was the wrong choice. Sorry, friends.

Unfortunately, the majority of actors end up being a case of “Oh, there’s so-and-so trying to act like he’s not so-and-so”, and often they don’t even try to act like they’re not themselves. Oh, there’s Brad Pitt. Nope, he’s not whatever character he’s supposed to be in the movie. He’s Brad Pitt shooting zombies. Oh, Morgan Freeman, he’s amazing, except that he’s just playing the same character in every movie he’s in: himself. I’m not being sarcastic. I end up often preferring unknown actors (as long as they have some acting talent of course) in many roles. There are a few really great well-known actors who can actually take you out of the headspace of just seeing that famous actor. But it’s pretty rare.

The actors with all the weird idiosyncrasies are the worst. Hell, some directors are that way too. Oh great, it’s Tim Burton, so we know the movie will have Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, will be emo and steampunk, and Johnny Depp will play a super quirky character.

I dunno, Cusack might actually be bland enough to make the movie a bit more credible. If they’re truly doing away with the strictly chronological format, that’s proably a good start. “Summer Dreams” and “An American Family” didn’t succeed with that format.

Meanwhile, perhaps someone will piece together a “Beatles Anthology”-sized Beach Boys documentary; get the surviving guys on camera for thorough interviews while they’re still alive. The Beach Boys story has so many layers to it that it needs to be told over a 3-4 doco

Use existing footage from previous interviews aswell like the Beatles Anthology but so much more needs to be told
