When I saw the title of the tread, i immediatly though of this: what if SMiLE was released as a animation movie? A la Fantasia?

That's really clever

Very, very nice! I'd be interested to hear a pitched-down track version, too.
That would be the best solution imo. That's what I plan to do. But this one's nice!

You needn't worry about that

Does anyone know if there is a better quality stereo version of CIFOTM than the one on Alternate BWPS?
57  Smiley Smile Stuff / Smile Sessions Box Set (2011) / Re: TSS - All things Wonderful on: November 07, 2011, 08:59:13 AM
With all the complaining about pitchshifted/fly-in vocals, it's funny to listen to the Smiley version of "Wonderful," with the cartoon/helium voices.  A similar sound on something Brian did.

Except there it was intentional and used for effect. For about three seconds.

Right, but it's not such an alien thing in Beach Boys music as people want to make it out to be.

Chopping up a vocal from a different recording and pitch shifting it all to hell just sounds bad. The end of "Holidays", for instance. Again, not a matter of principle - it works great on "Fire", for instance, but other songs... naw Sad
Fire is in the same they as Fall Breaks, only much faster. "All" they did was to cut the vocals in some places to make it fit, but they did not use pitch shifting (and thank god for that!)

I'm using Audacity for OOPSing, and Cubase for copying/pasting and editing in general

Does all of your vocal tracks here are in the Smile backing vocals montage?
61  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Smile (sorry...): How stereo can it be? on: November 06, 2011, 05:00:11 PM
I want it!

Just noticed that CIFOTM is in the same key as Surf's Up 67...now that gave me the wildest idea

Til now I had: 1st verse stereo (remastered from acetate) 2nd verse mono (remastered from the almighty disc 1)

I've just tried to mix them together ("new" vocals center, "old" vocals hard panned), I must say that I'm close to having an eargasm
64  Smiley Smile Stuff / Smile Sessions Box Set (2011) / Re: TSS - All things Child is father ...... on: November 06, 2011, 07:54:35 AM
I've done two stereo versions of the 2d verse and cleaned it a bit (with the two backing tracks), sounds pretty good.

Amazing!
66  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: SMiLE: Bring It On, Fanmixers. on: November 06, 2011, 06:51:20 AM
I've tried to synch the 2nd chorus with new vocals on both versions, they both sound super good (version 1 gave me a little bit of hard time though, because it's much faster but I got though), I've cleaned/eq'd/compressed these new vocals to make them sound a little less distorted.

If anyone want to hear either or both versions (and my recreation of the Whispering Winds fade in the right key), feel free to pm. We're gonna get though this all together!

Now that's a mystery
68  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: SMiLE: Bring It On, Fanmixers. on: November 06, 2011, 05:47:50 AM
I probably might be!

I'm working on a stereo Child as I am writing.

First chorus is stereo vocals over the stereo-to-mono backing Track 17 CD3 (version 2)
Second chorus is mono vocals from Disc 1 over stereo backing track 16 CD3 (version 1)

We'll see. For now the first chorus sounds very good.

The Baldwin was definitely a great surprise
70  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: SMiLE Sessions Price Thread. on: November 06, 2011, 03:56:23 AM
Yeah but I'm a student, with these extra 30 - 35 euros I can buy enough food for a little month

Of course you're right. I meant to say: in this particular case I chose to purchase at my regular retailers', we've become very good acquaintances over 30+ years. Moreover, I would spend € 40.00 extra this way on very, very few items on the planet in my lifetime, if at all. So out of a little 'beer money' box, and smeared out over a long time, that 40 Euro cap means zilch.
That wasn't criticism at all!  Shocked I'm too part of that category of people who can at some point go inside an independent music retailer, only to get out of the damn shop 5 hours lated and 200 bucks short  Huh But just once a year   Cheesy
71  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: SMiLE: Bring It On, Fanmixers. on: November 06, 2011, 03:53:01 AM
Today I'm going to try to synch the Surf's UP 67 to the original backing track. There's a lot of chance it'll be a mess, but if I succeed there's also a lot of chance it'll sound incredible.
72  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Hidden Tracks on: November 05, 2011, 06:23:04 PM
You forgot the "Heroes" Baldwin solo at the end of (I think) disc 3.
Yes, at the very end of the Workshop session
73  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: SMiLE Sessions box set! on: November 05, 2011, 06:15:18 PM
And for all the bands too.

There's quite a lot of Beatles multitracks out there, a few Stones and Who. Pretty cool. Hearing a Vocals + Orchestra only version of Something was one of the best musical experiences I've had.
74  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: SMiLE Sessions box set! on: November 05, 2011, 05:31:26 PM
The solution to the disc and artistic crisis: we give you the tracks you do the freakin album yourselves!

Sit on my face & tell me that you love me would be more appropriate
