I think this has great potential. It would be quite amazing if there was a bit more work, I don't know, what do you think?

Tune X Instrumental mashed with Little Pad

I wanted to put the original tracks but someone made a great cover, much better quality (it's not mine)

Sounds great so far.....but what did you do to H&V? The backing track is lower than on the mono and I can't even hear the drums (unless there's something wrong with my system).

This was a big complaint of mine regarding the Stereo H&V on the boxset. The mix is just awful. No excuse, hold your hands up Linett, terrible. Once the backing vocals kick in on the verses, you may as well call it an acapella!!
I added the instrumental track on the Stereo H&V, now it's perfectly balanced.
28  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Wind Chimes - Special 1966 SMiLE Version ? ? ? on: December 11, 2011, 06:57:39 AM
It's just the Version 1 instrumental track with extracted vocals (maybe not even extracted, I can hear the marimba instrumental) so it's most likely the track as we know it with the Celesta/Harpsichord instrumental crossfaded and layered on top of it. No idea where the laughter comes from but I like it

But it's most probably a fan mix, it's almost exactly what I wanted to do in my mix as soon as my stereo SS version is finished
29  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: SMiLE: Bring It On, Fanmixers. on: December 10, 2011, 01:42:27 AM
Looking forward to it!
Thank you! It will include a 6 mn Wind Chimes so watch out!
It sounds like it's going to be rather long-winded. Grin
I'm actually working on a Smiley SMiLE blend of both songs! And I just realized that my only chance of having a stereo Wonderful is with using SOT 18 (stereo smiley smile version), so I guess that'll be a blend of both versions. I tried to slow down the speed of the SMile version backing track to adapt to the stereo SS version, sounds like it's gonna be difficult but possible.

We definitely have a lot of ideas in common! I did practicly the same job on Cabinessence and it sounds great. I'll probably use your Barnyard in my mix, but extended if there's nothing wrong with that!

Some great ideas here, especially at the beginning

Mine should be ready pretty soon

Superb work

Most likely chorus but I'm not too sure

If I or anyone of us can make a decent stereo mix, I can't see why Mark Linnett and Alan Boyd couldn't make a great one...

5:1 is impossible though for some songs.

Would you be willing to share an acapella mixdown of your 2004 Do You Like Worms vocals?
+ 1 (and In Blue Hawaï if it's not too much to ask)

It seems my idea of using Can't Wait Too Long vocal flyins has been heard!

Can't wait to hear it

To make this work the piano demo is the only thing that you must let as it is, without changing the speed at all. It's the backing track you need to adapt to the demo, not the contrary. I think they did it "the wrong way" on TSS Disc 1, that's why this particular track doesn't work for me. Your ears will concentrate on the piano demo with vocals automatically, it's confusing if you change the speed or if you cut it, it's the main rhythm on which everything else has to sit upon. Doing it the other way worked better for me (no pun intended)
41  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: I'm In Great Shape on: November 27, 2011, 06:59:19 AM
to each their own. I'm in love with the piano demo, and I don't think vocals were meant to go on top of the studio-recorded track.

here's another version using one of the earlier takes with celeste, looping the piano (and coughing fits): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtNJvwmc0Ko

pretty trippy.
Love the looped piano, but there's some synch problems. Love the celesta version, I used it as an intro in my version
42  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: SMiLE Sessions box set! on: November 25, 2011, 02:55:55 AM

How do you achieve that, technically??

1: Great microphones 2: High recording level 3: No reverb

Can anybody give me a link to Bruiteur's clean Barnyard?
44  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: SMiLE: Bring It On, Fanmixers. on: November 24, 2011, 10:39:58 AM
My stereo Great Shape with restored echo tape frenzy is now complete, no more synch issues as far as I am concerned
45  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: \ on: November 24, 2011, 09:27:06 AM
Yeah, the vocal overdub is a little bit out of tune, which makes it sound like a "drone", that's what's always amazed me
46  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: SMiLE: Bring It On, Fanmixers. on: November 21, 2011, 12:48:20 PM
It's in the center of the signal, I don't know. Try to OOPs it in Audacity (import track, click on the upper corner on the left of the track, click "split stereo track", then click on the same corner of each track, click "mono", so that you have 2 mono tracks instead of 1 stereo. then choose one of the tracks -not both-, go to "effects > invert)

Thanks Bleachboy, would you mind trying that in audacity to see if it works?
I would but I don't have the album

Is the maker of this great Truck Drivin' Man isolation (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dje0M5b_9M) a member of this board? I sure would love to have a lossless version, as I'm working on a alternate stereo Cabin Essence right now and I want to highlight this part. Any help is appreciated!
49  Smiley Smile Stuff / Smile Sessions Box Set (2011) / Re: TSS - All things Wind Chimes on: November 19, 2011, 04:41:37 AM
I've done it in stereo, sounds great. I've kept the vocals in their original pitch, and put the backing track a half step higher. Sounds cool.

I've actually flown in the last "aaah" before they sing "been too long" from the a cappella version to the chorus of CIFOTM
