Please let me know if the Live 68 set is still not available overseas and which countries have the issue so I can let Capitol know.
ALso if the 66 or 67 sets ae still not available in the UK.
Thanks
Mark
Hi Mark, The Live 68 set doesn't seem to be available in the UK yet (not on Amazon, Google Play or 7digital). The 66 and 67 sets do seem to be available though. Thanks for looking into this! Rob

And it might be nice to catalogue the instrumental takes that TSS has that are missing from Unsurpassed Masters. What we need to do is compile from UM and other boots AND TSS The most complete chronological record of the Smile sessions. TSS complete and Unedited, at least based on the sources available. There are still vault items that could be released - like a stereo You're Welcome, stereo Barnshine with vocals (or was it stero Barnyard with vocals) - this may inspire me to go back and listen to everything I have Smile related yet again!
OK I am working on this. No idea how long it'll take, this is actually really time consuming! I just noticed Jason did this on a reference thread already. Maybe an update or any corrections to what he has would be useful? He also used Secret Smile and some other boots as sources. Oh, I thought you meant compiling an audio version of this! Man, and I've spent the last few days merging my Smile Sessions with Unsurpassed Masters 16 and 17, Vigotone, Archaeology and Secret Smile, then organizing them by recording date! I still think this would be a really worthwhile endeaver if you're willing to continue with this. I remember how much of an enourmous task it was tracking down all these different bootlegs, and then spending hours trying to find duplicates and figure out recording dates (I'm still not entirely sure I've got it right!), so if you could spare new fans from going through all of this it might be worth it! I'd still be really interested in this even if it was just to compare my playlist against what you came up with. The 'Smile session inventory' thread is really useful but it still takes some deciphering to figure out exactly which tracks are being referred to; also it's not entirely complete (the Good Vibrations section only includes stuff from the Unsurpassed Masters boots, and not TSS box or other bootlegs).

The 1983 studio demo floating around on YouTube is purty cool too.
You can hear Brian playing around with the melody again on the Hamburger/Cocaine Session bootleg (apparently from 1981), so he must've had it in his head for a while.

Too Cruel, Anything For You and 10,000 Years are all superb tracks, if only they were produced better than the Mike Love Not War-versions. Too Cruel and Anything For You have both some hit-potential, at least in my opinion. But it's a whole another thing who's interested about anything a nearly 80 years old man releases.
Is 10,000 Years a Mike Love track? I thought that it was a Dennis Wilson track.

Great topic.
Would like to give it a bit more thought but later maybe…
For now, my initial reaction was "but where would we all be now?"
If we hadn't had those tempting glimpses of Smile, through Prayer, Cabinessence and Surf's Up (take it for granted that Vibes and Heroes would be out there anyway, as Brian-sanctioned releases), would the cult of Smile have ever gotten off the ground? Would that one solo performance of SU on TV have been sufficient for the movement to have grown with sufficient momentum to see out the 2011 release of riches?
Honestly I think it would. Even right up to the release of BWPS, the IDEA of a "lost, mythical follow up to Pet Sounds" was at least as important in selling it as the quality of the songs that had already been heard. Having said that I am glad that songs from SMiLE were included on later albums, in just about every case I think they improved the albums they were included on.

Love your reconstructions thanks so much for putting in the effort. Particularly liked your reconstruction of Lifehouse. Have you thought about working some magic on It's A New Day and California Slide? And before AGD tells me it isn't really called California Slide at the moment I can't remember the real name of the song. Is it I;m Going Your Way?
This, please! Maybe it could be done as 'Made In California disc 7' - i.e. what if there was a second 'from the vaults' disc in the set. That (kind of!) fits the 'albums that never were' template. If Mark Linnett asked you to compile an extra disc, what would you put on it? *cough* remixed Carry Me Home *cough* Just a suggestion. Thanks for all the fantastic albums - all of your Beach Boys reconstructions have a permanent place in my music library! [Was writing my post at the same time as the previous one - great minds think alike!]

I would assume it's what Matt H said. I'm sure that they could sound better though.
It's stuff like these demos (and Adult Child itself), that makes me think the "Legacy Edition" -- or even better, the super deluxe, 4 disc, big book method -- is the way to go for this stuff. I would be all over a Love You box set. Or a Sunflower or a Surf's Up, Super Duper Edition.
do it Capitol. do it!
I'm hoping the absence of Love You demos on the box set (they could've had 3 of them on disc 6 instead of the Smile vocal montage) means they're planning to use them somewhere else. A bit of a long shot, but fingers crossed!

In the 'Yours Orders' section on my Amazon UK account.
Total £56.57
Delivery estimate Friday 30 Aug 2013
Made in California Made in California Beach Boys, The
Sold by Amazon EU S.a.r.L.
That's weird, mine is still at the price I originally ordered it at last week (£66). This website, which tracks Amazon prices, still has £66 as the lowest price, but I suppose the price could have dropped very briefly and wasn't picked up by the price tracker: http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com/Made-California-The-Beach-Boys/product/B008XZKSRYDisney Boy (1985) , do you mind me asking, are you ordering from outside the UK? If so, maybe you get some kind of tax discount that we don't. If not, I need to contact Amazon! (not saying I don't believe you, by the way, just trying to figure out why I haven't been given the discount!) Are you talking about the difference between tax included and not included here? Yup. Actually I've just worked it out. The lowest Amazon UK price + North American delivery - VAT works out at £56.57. Ok, mystery solved, there was no sudden price drop after all!

Does anyone have any idea (or would care to speculate) if the previously released tracks on the box set will be newly remastered where a recent remaster doesn't already exist?
I didn't buy 50 Big Ones, but were all the tracks on that newly remastered (for example, Sail On Sailor which wasn't included in the recent mono/stereo album reissues and doesn't appear in a new mix)? That might give us a clue as to what to expect on Made In California.
I'm just deciding whether I can use this as an extra justification for getting the box set!
