I miss Mikie & AGD.

Go, Carl!!!  Personally, I've always enjoyed the fade, originally (ie, as a young teen not knowing a thing about Smile and it's myriad pieces) thinking akin it was a collection of clocks - thus evoking the passing of time similar to themes addressed in the lyrics.

Still evocative stuff and a good link to SD's metallic processed drum sound in the intro - an added dimension to a kick- ass number.

Nice going, Klaus!

Right /wrong, it doesn't matter. You'll not be convincing some that the correct action has been taken.

Wasn't the song in question "All I Want To Do" (although there are also banging sounds on the "Do It Again" fade).

I imagine they would've if they involved bullying of any kind.

If you're bullying someone, if it's by PM, then it should be brought to the attention of the moderators. The only reason that this is an issue is because of who it is; it seems a lot of people want to give it a pass because he's a great BB historian. That doesn't give him a right to bully people.

Very true.
If very true, make sure, then, these rules are governed consistently.  If Andrew has legitimately breached rules and been banned, then so be it; I am not privy to the proof but imagine it cuts both ways - but please ensure the same rules are held up for the other bullies and dubious human being excuses who f*** this place up.
57  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Lifetime ban on AGD on: April 19, 2016, 03:04:17 PM
I lost all respect for Andrew when he deleted me as a facebook friend because I didn't believe that Denni Leanne was really Dennis's daughter. We had been friends for some time when this happened. If someone does that to me over a lie then never apologizes, that's it. His ex girlfriend, can't remember her name, did the same thing. AGD thinks he's God's gift to women and Beach Boys fans. Karma is a bitch.
We can do without this kind of axegrinding drivel - not relevant to the ban in question and contributing to the speculative tendency of this thread; Billy & Charles, could you please address?

Going back to the beginning of last month, a band named Sheer Mag released their third EP, III. There's a lot of sensationalism about them and tornadoes on the internet, so if that catches your interest, feel free to look it up. I will say that the woman up front has a great voice, and her band is solid. They write and perform good songs. They make soulful punk music. This is a music video they made for a song from their most recent EP. They have other music videos and songs, too.

I'm quoting this and mentioning one of my favorite songs of theirs to encourage at least one person to give them a chance.
Fabulous! thanks for that one, Bübsker Dude.
60  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Good Vibrations 50th Anniversary global commemorative release announced on: April 13, 2016, 03:36:29 PM
I'd hope for a DVD/Blu-ray featuring both the recently (2011?) found Vibes sessions footage (set up though it might have been), both synced to audio and an unedited version of everything found, along with the fire station promo footage filmed at the time.

That, along with the very best, listenable outtakes from the recording sessions.

And any recently found trial mixes, vocal overdubs etc.

Plus a series of CDs featuring at least one live performance from each year between 1966 and 2016, by the BBs, BW band, BBs' Family and Friends etc.

Maybe not the last bit… Wink
All collected in a box, that has a placeholder slot for the 60th anniversary release.

62  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Good Vibrations 50th Anniversary global commemorative release announced on: April 13, 2016, 02:34:45 AM
Tucked away at the bottom of the PS 50th anniversary blurb on TheBeachBoys.com (News) was this little announcement:

"This year also marks the 50th anniversary of one of popular music’s most iconic singles of all time, The Beach Boys’ “Good Vibrations.” The Beach Boys and Capitol/UMe will celebrate “Good Vibrations” with a global commemorative release this fall".

News, speculation and eventual reviews welcome here - come as you are.

Apologies if this is old news, I may have missed this in another thread, but in the blurb I noticed this...

50th Anniversary of The Beach Boys’ “Good Vibrations” Single to be Celebrated with Commemorative Release This Fall

and

This year also marks the 50th anniversary of one of popular music’s most iconic singles of all time, The Beach Boys’ “Good Vibrations.” The Beach Boys and Capitol/UMe will celebrate “Good Vibrations” with a global commemorative release.

Has this been mentioned?
That blurb's a lift from the PS 50 box news update on BB homepage, way down the bottom.

Start a thread!

They are good prices! The boat must stop down your way first.

I rarely buy from JB over here, I get better deals from the indie stores, particularly Greville Records in Prahan.

However, JB do the best job spruking what's available on the local market (for those that forgo the import route); purely due to the bread they've pumped into their promo-machine and typing monkeys.
66  Smiley Smile Stuff / Ask The Honored Guests / Re: The Stephen Desper Thread on: April 12, 2016, 05:35:10 AM
Once again, Stephen Desper, your remasterings are a completely mind blowing amen worthy experience.

I could not believe how every nuance of both the track and the vox glistened from my 2 way speakers in stereophonic glory - each instrumental element (some, like strummed guitars previously unnoticed by me) balanced and blended, somehow distinct yet remaining complimentary to the overall sound.

The Beach Boys and friends sounded as though they were singing down to us from heaven, a very dreamy ethereal feel to the vocal presentation.

By way of comparison, I first played the recent UME vinyl reissue, as remastered by Ron McMaster; overall a great presentation with good sound stage and tonal balance - the deep throb of the picked bass, the crisp chink of the high-hats, the ambient key presses during the interlude of Be Here in the Morning; Your remastering completely blows the vinyl away - kinda like turning vehicle lights from low-beam to high-beam (I still love the recent vinyl but it can't compare to the experience presented here).

I hope any Friends fan unfortunate enough to read my patchy ramblings who hasn't had a listen to the Friends tutorial takes the time to do so - this is a definitive  listen (imho, as always).

I'm off to listen to it again, and again a million thanks  Transcendental Meditation- A

68  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Interesting Ebay find on: April 09, 2016, 05:50:19 PM

I do not believe the seller will have anyone nibbling at it for $1,800, and any Best Offer would probably be considered offensively low. But is is definitely a rare piece of Beach Boys memorabilia and you do not see it offered very often. But it is not nearly as rare, imho, as the the stock and promo copies of "The Surfer Moon" by Bob & Sheri on Safari 101.  It would be interesting to know how many of those survived.

It would be nice if there was an accounting somehow of exactly how many copies of ANY rare BBs items were actually manufactured.
Pipedream, I know; as even with more "common" rarities, there's no accounting.
and there's always people that collect to have something and while never letting anyone else know they have it

I know the promo Bob and Sheri has to be much rarer than the stock copy( since I don't have the promo, dontchaknow)
My stock copy ( it's fairly beatup), tho, was signed on the label, presumably, by Bob and Sheri.  I wonder if that was a commonplace happening.
I paid $100 to a dealer who thought, mistakenly, he was getting the best of me  ( wish he had more rarities, to take me again and again and again....)

Oops, meant to reply to the first part but had a lapse:
I have one of these, but without what appears to be a booklet (with the BW & VDP quote on the cover) and I was unaware that it came with a letter, but that makes sense since it was a promo for radio stations.

I'd swear that somewhere on here I had posted a pic of the letter. I tried searching, but could only find reference to someone wanting to use the image of the letter, not the actual image.
Thought it was in media, but that's still alot( hey Mikie) of threads to search.  ( I came up empty)

and  referencing below...  nothing great of late have I added.
Jim gets all the good stuff now!

Almost Summer Director, Marty Davidson, contacted the BB's to do the soundtrack - but the soundtrack rights/distribution what have you was with MCA, and the BB's exclusive CBS! contract didn't allow it.  However, individual members could be involved thus Celebration came into being.  According to per Ian and Jon's book, p234/235 (far left and far right hand side text respectively).

You know what I meant Chris.  He didn't "leave here unhappy."  He was banned, permanently.  And his transgression, as I understand it, was accusing someone of being a "cheerleader."  Much worse has been written here, bordering on verbal abuse and libel, without a permanent ban being imposed.
You understand incorrectly.
Please enlighten us.

Yes, mods, what did happen? I think it's important to know exactly why a venerated poster like Mikie simply vanished from one day to the next. Then we can all move on, you see.

Hey,  Mikie just emailed me and said I posted the sentence below on account of I'm just mad because nobody's wondering where I am.
I'm here Mikie!  I can post!!!    I simply chose to step back... ( and if there isn't any concern, it's OK with me)

Again I say:

Nothing to see here, everyone move on....
sh*t, bgas, so you did survive the winter after all.  I better call back the salvage team I've despatched to your museum bunker.

I know Mikie who used to post here saw it, and I think he may have taken a picture, perhaps posted it at some time on some board.  But it seems he left here unhappy.

According to Mikie it wasn't his choice...

OF COURSE it was Mikie's choice. He had the choice NOT to post the words he did which got him banned, but he chose to post anyway

Here is the Rockies Smiley incident in summary, detailed in Ian and Jon's book, p 237:
Tuesday, July 18, 1978: Stampede Corral, Calgary, AB, Canadia, with Zingo

Phil Shenale recalled Dennis trapped Carl in Carl's hotel room by jamming in a whole load of furniture from other rooms (while Carl was catching zzzzz's), making the entourage miss the Commercial flight - they leased 8 to 10 4 seater (little) planes to fly from Seattle to Calgary, an act of madness.

Bobby Figueroa added "they" were having trouble breathing in his plane and pinged the pilot about it - the pilot said the oxygen gauge reads full, then he tapped the gauge and it went down to EMPTY.  Somehow they all survived, the end.

Perhaps the lyrics of Loop de Loop thinly veil/make light of a tale of another near miss ("We'll toss and tumble and sail her right in to the sun").

74  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson 2016 Tour Thread (Pet Sounds 50th Anniversary Tour) on: April 03, 2016, 10:00:20 PM
no surprises in the setlist, but here it is abbreviated:
Damn man, that's an INCREDIBLE setlist!  Cool

I can only hope Add Some Music, Funky Pretty, Honkin' and the like have survived by the time the tour comes to NYC in June.

Glad you had a great time!  Smiley

Funky Pretty and Honkin' should be cool, as Funky is part of the Blondie "set" and Honkin' is Al's big chance Smiley Now, what would be cool; Al took the time to tell everyone that the B-side of both the Add Some Music and Honkin' 45's was Susie Cincinnati - but they wouldn't be playing it last night - I think it would be a great deep cut addition to the set, the band is hot and could nail it easily, sez me.

btw, I really enjoyed the opportunity to see Gary Griffin, who got the "what's his name" honours of the evening, rockin' out.
