Super Furry Animals. Anyone else here a fan?

Good god, yes!  Grin

Ditto that!!

(it's when I first started listening to Pixies as well).

and lovin' that too.  I hit an initial wall with the BB's around '88 and gap-filled with Black Francis and Mrs John Smith et al

2203  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: How many times have you bought Pet Sounds? (Or other BB albums?) on: December 05, 2011, 02:06:13 AM
In order of acquisition;
1 Pet Sounds/Smiley Smile vinyl twofer
3 (and counting) The Fabulous Beach Boys (Pet Sounds rebadged on Music For Pleasure! label, it's everywhere)
1 Pet Sounds CD (1st run)
1 rerelease CD with the mono/stereo line-up
1 PS Sesh Box
1 1966 US Mono vinyl
1 stereo/mono vinyl
Another PS rerelease CD with the mono/stereo line-up
The Fuzz CD - I wasn't gonna do it, but Mr AGD or one of his peers wrote a timely blog about repeat purchases that "spoke to me" and my wallet hand

I would argue that ownership of the GV box constitutes another copy (comon',8 of 13 tracks)

12 Copies.  And I hardly listen to it!  Tongue

Although when I do, I go mono mix - I think there's a greater sense of urgency to the proceedings

As for the other BB product, all on vinyl ('cept SC and SIP), SU on Stateside, Warner and Caribou vinyl, all on original twofer, all on 24 bit (thank god for that end of bin discount cd joint)

POB on Caribou vinyl original, Loco duluxo release CD and blue vinyl

The "Today" opinion is kinda interesting, considering it's actually one of the few originals currently in print (in an el cheapo edition, mind).  I often see vintage vinyl pressings in a the 2nd hand joints, which usually indicates that it sold well at the time.

I'm always suprised that the "Lost and Found" stuff hasn't been bought back into the fold - legalities and overall quality aside, it provides a historical insight into this band's origin and as well as a document of a sliver of the LA music industry at the time

Fairytale of New York - The Pogues; is essential.

Another left fielder is "How to Make Gravy" by Paul Kelly which hits the right buttons without layin' on the cheese
2206  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 'I Get Around' Used In 'Swiffer Dusters' TV Ad Campaign on: December 02, 2011, 02:51:52 AM
Haha, sorry, I wasn't clear - that may have been my attempt at imitating the typical "lol let's just do this in a silly voice lol lool" falsetto vocal in any given Beach Boys cover.

Also, I later realized that I sound like the mom on that 70s show, here. It was a good time. My recording equipment was already set. Okay.
Do some more covers because I thought it was funny. LOL
Ditto that comment, more please!!!  Cheesy
And, I bow before the master for foolin' my dumb ass (or getting me to fool myself) - DYN-O-MITE!

Just imagine if these assholes had been in charge of engineering or producing the originals. They would've tossed Brian out on his ass and opted for some guy who did this:

Is this seriously how people hear the Beach Boys? For Christ's sakes.

Did you eye gouge these dudes - that's really, really...

lawlz, what?
Yeah, user error on that post; must use preview option.

I was still in shock after listening to the sound bite (still am), and was wonderin' if you did indeed stab 'em in the eye.

The line should have read "really, really...the freakin' pits of any BB song abuse of ever heard" + some other useless guff

And in Australia we have some half assed WIBN crappo jingle. flogging VW

Help us, Lord - I thought we had a lucky escape when Cadbury ditched their "WIBN if the world was chocolate..." run.

Haven't seen the VW one yet, selling TV immediately to avoid

Whoever is cutting these deals needs a timely visit from Runnersdialzero.

Australian fans have been tortured by a national mega appliance retailer bludgeoning GV for several years now ("Come in and see the Good, Good, Good guys...")

Just hoping one of the local financial institutions doesn't hijack "Time to get alone"
2211  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beards on: November 27, 2011, 01:28:27 AM
Correct; hair folicles absorb, bend and refract waves in the cool light spectrum, contributing to spatial displacement twixt the cranial and bipedial hemispheres  LOL
2212  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The very worst Beach Boys related 'song' ever released on: November 27, 2011, 01:22:19 AM
Wow, 11 pages and no mention of the most abysmal Beach Boys related song in existence, I of course refer to Speed Turtle. Closely followed by the woeful Won't Somebody Dance With Me?.

There are fifty reasons why Speed Turtle is better than Teeter Totter Love...hmmm, actually, I can only think of 2!  LOL

Yay, Camus Cheesy

Yay, Smile Cheesy I agree, it certainly is a beautiful thing  Shocked

Still no word, this is bullsh*t.

That is bullsh*t, I feel bad for telling you to hang tight  Undecided.  As John Manning says, it is worth the wait (mine arrived in the same time frame as per John Stivaktas).
2215  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: News Article From 1971: Smile, Radiant Radish, BB's Cartoon??? on: November 22, 2011, 11:15:50 PM
All cartoon characters get funky catch-phrases.

I'm betting Al, on confronting the villian of the villian of the week, would lay down a "Cool it!!" or 2.

Suggestions for the rest of the gang (simian included)?
2216  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Favorite lead vocal by any given band member on any given song? on: November 21, 2011, 11:23:27 PM
Brian - Busy doin' nothing
Mike - Big Sur (original version)
Carl - I can hear music
Al - Cotton fields (single)
Dennis - Angel come home ("I just let her go...")
2217  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Which Beach Boys Album Cover Is Your Favorite & Why? on: November 17, 2011, 01:14:15 PM
A majority of 1 (me) think the Carl and the Passions cover in 12" format only is one of their greats. Great piece of very US car art, but loses something in CD format.  Like KTSA; moody and evocative in large format.

That tatt' is amazing! Shocked
2218  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys or solo songs that make you cry? on: November 16, 2011, 12:19:15 AM
Baby Blue kicks my ass everytime, even more so since the passing of both vocalists.
Also, I'll bet he's nice, as each brother lays it down
2219  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Box Set delays in Australia? on: November 14, 2011, 12:13:42 AM
Hang in there, debonbon - the Amazon experience ain't that great (and kinda pricey once you factor in the shipping), and still yet to arrive, tomorrow, tomorrow?...

I understand your frustration; I was scheming some crazy plans around October 30, I'm at peace with it now  Smiley - A
2220  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Box Set delays in Australia? on: November 12, 2011, 02:45:28 AM

2223  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Free streaming music ripper... on: November 10, 2011, 01:10:26 AM
Hi Mr Doe,

Have a read about these 2 options - http://www.online-tech-tips.com/computer-tips/how-to-capture-save-record-or-download-streaming-audio-for-free/

Option 1 lives in your browser, so you just click a button when you want to record.

Option 2 is a stand alone program that you have to open in a seperate window.

In each case there is a minor bit of techo stuff required, I'm sure there will be an inexhaustible line of people willing to help you out.

Cheers - A
