I love 60's music, Beach Boys, Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Kinks, Rolling Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd, Small Faces, Led Zeppelin, Simon & Garfunkel, Neil Young, not forgetting older artists such as Elvis, Sinatra, Ray Charles etc.  Grin

Man I love Sgt Pepper, it's the album that got me into music. If nothing else just listen to that incredibly melodic bass playing.  Smiley

I can't wait! This is going to be my first Brian show so i'm not all that sure what to expect.  Smiley

Is even Murray bad enough to deserve to go to hell?

It seems that a lot of people are very black'n'white in the Beach Boys world....some people are very love 'em or hate 'em.

FWIW, I did enjoy Leaf's twofer notes (despite the factual errors later found out) and his book. I don't think Beautiful Dreamer is so much fiction as it is very one-sided, but I still love it...heh...I went to the second Carnegie Hall Smile concert, and I remember seeing David Leaf in the back of the hall after the show. There was practically a reception line forming in front of him of people shaking his hand, patting his back, etc., complimenting him on Beautiful Dreamer, which had just aired on Showtime.

But still, his "Brian good, everyone else (including Christ himself) bad" attitude -- or at least the implied attitude -- is a bit disturbing. One semi-insider I spoke with (who now is no longer with us; guess you can figure out about whom I'm talking) said that David went so far as to say that if hell exists, he believes that's where Carl is because of how he treated Brian.  Uhh...Huh
What?, Murry and Carl don't belong in the same place. Everybody loved Carl and Carl helped free Brian from Landy.

Since Dennis was the surfer of the group his figure should have a big woody.

We need little accessories such as a  minature moog synth, dressing gown, Mini jukebox that plays Be My Baby, piano sandbox and  Banana and Louie figures for Brian, also can these dolls be part of an ongoing series? Like we could have present day Brian sitting behind a keyboard and early 60's skinny Brian. Also don't forget about dolls of Van Dyke Parks, Ed Carter, Full House era- John Stamos, Jeff Foskett, and Murry Wilson. Murry should have a his own special doll in which you pull a string on the back and he says phrases:

Murry Wilson:
"I'm A Genius, Too!", "What's the matter, you guys made too much money?", "Loosen up a little", "You're too tense", "Soft and sexy", "Syncopate it a little",
"OK fellas, you got any guts?", "I'm sorry to yell", "Let's fight for success".

Happy birthday to Al 'the unnoticed one' Jardine!

Here's the way I'm thinking about the disc one "album" -- all it needs to be is entertaining. I'm not expecting heavenly light to shine down from the sky as I finally hear what the "Barnyard Suite" was going to be in 1967. Disc One is a big-budget popcorn movie, and the individual tracks are like the sets. No one complains if the city street is a facade, or a green screen, as long as it FEELS real and serves the movie. Special effects, like flying in the yodels in "Wonderful"? Not only acceptable, but EXPECTED in a big budget popcorn movie. I fully expect it to be terrifically entertaining; it will be the SMiLE I urge friends to listen to. The rest of the box set? Those are the bonus features on the BluRay disc -- the documentaries, the interviews, the outtakes, the deleted scenes. That stuff is for the historians -- professional and amateur -- to sift through. Disc One should just make you ... well, you know... smile.

Does this mean we could get sequel boxsets if this one does well enough?  Wink

It says its the 66th best seller in music at the moment.

Amazon UK now has an image of the 1CD set.  Pretty much what you'd expect: rainbow label CD with a jewel case.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Smile-Sessions-Jewel-Case/dp/B005KGNM90/

Of course, since I'm buying the box, I have absolutely no need for this.   I'm tempted to buy it anyway, though, because I kind of like the idea of a jewelcase version of Smile sitting among the rest of my CDs.  Crazy?  Obsessive-compulsive?   Yes, probably, but I'm sure most of you know what I mean.  LOL

You think that's crazy? I'm probably going to end up buying the vinyl version of the album seperately even though i'm getting the boxset!  Shocked
587  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: I'm worried about Mike Love on: September 02, 2011, 10:16:56 AM
I've often wondered just how many BeachBoys shows Mike has performed in his career.  He might just hold some kind of showbiz record.

It was almost 4000 by the end of 2000, so assuming about 100/year since then, gotta be close to 5000. Probably more.

Maybe by the time the 60th anniversary of the Beach Boys comes around Mike will be around 6000.  Wink
588  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys Feature Film on: September 02, 2011, 10:00:18 AM
Perhaps we're better off without it, I doubt much effort would have been put into it and it would probably have ended up being bland, lame and boring. The Beatles had a lot of charm and could act naturally (get it?) when they made 'A Hard Days Night' and 'Help!'. They also had better scriptwriters than i'm sure would have been given to a Beach Boys film.

Actually now I have a couple more ideas:

Brian Wilson Reimagines Shortenin' Bread,
Brian Wilson Presents Love You Live on Moog Synth, (On tour and with a CD/DVD release, with Jeff Foskett locked away some where)  Evil
Brian Wilson Reimagines Be My Baby,
Brian Wilson Reimagines Summer In Paradise and Looking Back With Love.

After reading some of the recent pages of Smiley Smile and Stevehoffman.tv I couldn't agree more with the Heartical Don! Also the wait is getting even more unbearable!  Grin
591  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: SMiLE Sessions box set! on: September 01, 2011, 04:31:12 AM
Sometime struck me this morning. Remember at the beginning of the year when we were discussing it being the Beach Boys 50th anniversary and how they would mark it? Most people (myself included) figured we'd get another Endless Summer surf hit comp. Who'd have thought nine months later we would be at the point we are now!

Agree. And still people find things to complain about. I, for one, had rather had that Endless Summer comp than that useless, overlong, and overpriced Smile thing... what nonsense!

Your telling me! I was hoping for a deluxe CD/Vinyl release of one of the greatest solo albums of all time by the man behind it all, I am of course talking about Looking Back With Love!

Since about early 2010 when I was 15/16 and got into the Beach Boys/Brian Wilson.

Hey SMiLE addicts, i'm a long time lurker from here (God that sounds creepy)  Evil and i've been excited for this since March. I have to say though that 125 Quid seems far to much and could turn of alot of potential (or poorer like myself)  Grin buyers, fingers crossed  the price goes down to around 100 which I was hoping for to would begin with.
