Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Looking back on Brian's best studio recordings of the last decade

I was compiling a list of my favourite tracks since 2007's What Love Can Do, and was surprised at how much quite a lot of it holds up when you stack most of the best (imo) recordings together:
1. What Love Can Do 2. Forever She'll Be My Surfer Girl 3. Southern California 4. Live Let Live (Demo) 5. Midnights Another Day (Demo) 6. The Like In I Love You 7. 'S Wonderful 8. They Can't Take That Away from Me 9. I Got Rhythm 10. Baby Mine 11. Colors Of The Wind 12. Think About The Days 13. That's Why God Made The Radio 14. Isn't It Time 15. Spring Vacation 16. Shelter 17. Strange World 18. From There to Back Again 19. Pacific Coast Highway 20. Summer's Gone 21. Wanderlust 22. This Beautiful Day 23. Whatever Happened 24. The Right Time 25. I'm Feeling Sad 26. One Kind Of Love
On listening through my comp, the past 10 years seem to have been a definite improvement over the preceding 10-15 years of BB related music IMO. (Presents SMiLE excepted)
Anyone else find more enjoyment in Brian's modern solo work than most 80s-90s recordings? How do his most recent recordings compare to his previous eras?

To the boring BS argument being put out by Trump supporters, i.e "He won, suck it up, they should play it".. He also happens to be the most divisive figure in western politics. It's much more controversial for the band to play for him than Reagan. Also, with the internet playing such a huge part in how the world works these days could completely ruin The Beach Boys reputation and legacy for the sake of Mike Love's political gain.
That would result in the alienation of the largest portion of BB fans, in the long run that would effectively damage future sales of CD's, concerts, merchandise ect. associated with the band.
To be more blunt, why sh*t on their 55 year musical legacy just to make Mike and Bruce happy?

I'm getting the feeling that many people in this thread are liberals which is just a shorthand of saying hysterical people with no political understanding very little formal education and who read a couple of selected websites like moveon.org or read the guardian rag magazine and have hatred for Trump who is already doing an outstanding job in leading this country and will do more for women and more for minorities and more for the gay community than all the brain-dead Liberals combined that have tried to lead this country of late . I don't like to get angry or unkind here but I'm so frustrated with the moral self-righteousness of snarky liberals who pay no attention to the real actions and accomplishments of the president-elect and just go with the crowd from things they have heard from other uninformed and barely educated people who live only for hate and snark. I would be thrilled if the Patriotic Beach Boys would put country first and would perform which is not a political act but an act of patriotism and unity. I thought the motto on the left was stronger together wasn't it? There is nothing more intolerant and hate-filled than a leftist American liberal.
American Liberals are an elite academic cast who are capable only in performing in a snarky way what they call social justice and I am very disappointed that the level of intellectual depth in this thread, which is equivalent to that of someone like Samantha Bee on television. I am one of the intellectuals for Trump and like him I have liberal social policies and I believe in protection and prosperity and have seen nothing but failure in the Obama years.
Wow, this guy really is brainwashed by his own agenda. I think this might be the most cynical, condescending, insulting piece of sh*t statements I've ever read on a public forum. The way he describes himself as an intellectual and his writing style makes me think he must be one of the biggest f*ckwits around.

Truth is, whilst I could imagine a modern TV Show namechecking The Beach Boys (or maybe even Brian Wilson for a bit of indie cred), I doubt many TV watchers would give two craps about a guest appearance by Mike Love and Bruce Johnston, in 2016. They just don't have that type of starpower. Even on Fuller House.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Catch A Wave original Draft Manuscript being Auctioned

Interesting, estimated to reach between 200,000-300,000 at Sotheby's! Always interesting to see Brian's writing up close too. CATALOGUE NOTE Wilson pens the lyrics for two of Surfer Girl's best-loved tracks and produces for the first time Surfer Girl marks the debut of Brian Wilson the producer laying the groundwork for his later immense success crafting the harmonies and arrangements of songs that would be known as "teenage symphonies to God." The lyrics here, in Wilson's hand, are for another hymn to SoCal surfer cuture, " Catch A Wave." They are the essential final lyrics as recorded and released as the second track on their seminal 1963 album. Wilson saw this song as an important milestone in achieving the sound he was looking for, the band and vocals a cohesive whole, crashing over and immersing the listener: "[It] was more rhythmic. The guitars were more clean and driving as if to say they didn't wanna stop. The piano was played by me and it was perfectly synchronized with the guitars. The 3 different sounds combined to make one unique sound. I was ecstatic about this." On the reverse Wilson begins to craft one of the Beach Boys best loved singles, the drag racing ode " Little Deuce Coupe." In black ink ("Catch a Wave" is written in blue) Wilson jots down the following lines: "Well I'm not braggin' babe so don't put me down Just a little deuce coupe with a flat She's got a competition" Each of these would each eventually become the opening lines of the song's stanzas, which suggest that this is perhaps the very beginning of the song lyrically. A very early working draft of one of The Beach Boys best loved and most performed songs. It was a track that was the band's most successful B-side and one that Wilson himself was very fond of: "We loved doing 'Little Deuce Coupe'. It was a good 'shuffle' rhythm, which was not like most of the rhythms of the records on the radio in those days. It had a bouncy feel to it. Like most of our records, it had a competitive lyric. This record was my favorite Beach Boys car song." Of additional note are expenses that Wilson has penned on the reverse of recording sheet, with amounts next to "Dennis" and "Al Jardine." Substantial lyrics or arrangements in Brian Wilson's hand, especially from the band's golden age, are almost unknown on the market. http://www.sothebys.com/en/auctions/ecatalogue/2016/rock-roll-n09587/lot.118.html

Hell f*cking no. No, no, no, no. Mind you, if Mike and Bruce want to play for him under their own names than they can go right ahead. Has there ever been a band with a greater disparity than the one between the largely conservative audience who discovered the BB's through Full House and Kokomo and the typically more liberal, indie-esque fan base who came to know the band through the legend of Brian Wilson and Pet Sounds/Smile?

I'd quite like to see a SMiLE show, although i'd LOVE to see Wild Honey or Love You (for the 40th) performed too. But really, what I want right now is Brian back in the studio recording as many songs as he can. (Without Joe Thomas!) I know that sounds selfish but I'd really love to get as much new material as possible while Brian's still up to it.. which i'm confident he will be for some time left. If anything, it'd be nice to be a record produced by someone like Adam Schlesinger or Andy Partridge.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Mike's Stage Dialogue (Particularly in the 60s)

Now as much as I love listening to the 60s Live Soundboards....Am I the only one who cuts out all Mike's dialogue in between the songs?
Good god the 1966 Michigan Shows are so much more thrilling without all the added talking. Yeah, It was was necessary back then because it often took the boys a long time to tune their instruments but it gets sooooooo tiring! (Plus you can fit both shows on one disc by cutting out the dialogue.)
Does anyone actually listen to these tapes with all of Mike's dialogue included?

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Al Jardine to Guest Star on DECKER: UNCLASSIFIED

To those that don't understand the appeal of the show: The Beach Boys have a lot of indie/hipster credit with people in their 20s/30s thanks to things like SMiLE/Pet Sounds/Sunflower/Brian in general etc. I've seen it particularly on sites like Reddit + 4Chan/mu/ so Al's appearance isn't completely out of this world honestly.
I definitely understand all of that, and I've always been open to the band and its members getting this sort of cred among younger hipsters and all of that. I'm not some old fashioned BB fan wearing my Hawaiian shirt and waiting for "I Love Lucy" reruns. I just think this particular "Adult Swim" selection was pretty lame and unfunny; I get why others might like it. I guess I'm an old-timer when it comes to Adult Swim; I'm still bummed Aqua Teen ended. I've always thought Al Jardine would be the best random, non-sequitur guest spot a show could hope for. For pure weird imagery, this "Decker" appearance did it for me. But it wasn't actually funny beyond that curiosity of seeing Al in that setting. I think the random, super-ironic style of "Adult Swim" humor has nearly run its course. Viewers of course disagree. It's a very niche show, so its understandable that the Tim and Eric style of LOLRANDOM (for lack of a better word) might not gel with a lot of people. I can imagine many posters aged 50+ being very confused if they tuned in for Al's appearance!
