That's a pretty unique picture, Rocker. According to this article in a Dutch newspaper (I actually found 3 articles with that same picture), this one was taken during the now famous December 18 1970 concert in Amsterdam. You know, the midnight concert that started a bit later than planned due to fog (or early, if you consider it started on the 19th at 5:15AM). Nice to see it in better quality.

Futureland, Tweede Maasvlakte, Rotterdam, July 5th 2019This concert was a special one. The owner of the water tour company Spido wanted to celebrate their 100 year jubilee with a special concert. He had seen the Beach Boys perform in Rotterdam (Nieuwe Luxor Theater) in 2017 and had decided to get this group back in the Netherlands in 2019 for a special concert with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. And so it happened apparently. The location was a special one as well: in the heart of the industrial port area Tweede Maasvlakte. A "new" part of the Netherlands, built where used to be the North Sea. Between the transhipment companies, cranes, and containers a large stage was built where the band could perform. Attendants could go to the venue by boat from the center of Rotterdam (a 2 and a half hour trip with diner, and the same trip back with beverages and food, accompanied by a Joe Cocker tribute band). Or one could go by car, drive to a central parking spot and be transported by a shuttle bus. The latter being a lot cheaper of course. The venue was a closed area , enclosed by containers. Except for the typical sea-smell, the beach atmosphere was nowhere to been seen (except for a few fake palmtrees that were placed along the path from the harbour to the stage). But the location was special nonetheless, seeing the cranes in the distance being operated during the concert and large boats passing by. Mike even made a joke about it when they entered the stage ("you know... we're just doing it for the oil and gas..."). Within the concerts area there were several stalls with beverages and cold/hot snacks. As there were only limited seats available for the disabled and special guests, the atmosphere was that of a festival. I had already heard from Scott that because of the venue's location, the scheduled starting time (21PM), and the fact that an intermission was planned, a shorter set would be played. The concert would end at 23PM with a firework show, which couldn't be shifted. The concert started 15 minutes too late though, due to the last boat with special guests (including the mayor) arriving too late at the venue. Because of that the intermission was shortened; the band only took a short break during the RPO’s rendition of In My Room. It was very interesting to see how the orchestra and band collaborated. Mind you that they only had time to talk and practice together during the afternoon prior to the show. And where normally a conductor leads the orchestra and band, in this case she had to follow the band, concentrating on both what the band did and lead the orchestra through it. And she - with the orchestra - did a heck of a job, giving many songs extra punch, or familiar studio sounds (like for example the cello in Good Vibrations). And the Beach Boys clearly appreciated that, letting us know that several times during the concert. As you can see, compared to the set of two days earlier, they didn't just shortened it, a few other songs were thrown in as well (Catch A Wave, Kiss Me Baby, All The Love In Paris), and was reshuffled quite a bit. Also noticeable was that Scott didn’t do any leads due to a sour throat. The Boys were in good form again, clearly enjoying the collaboration with an orchestra and the location. As said the show ended with fireworks, and it closed with the announcement that - because of the 100 year jubilee - Spido was awarded the title "Royal company" by the King of the Netherlands. I was at the concert in Het Nieuwe Luxortheater in Rotterdam yesterday (July 3rd). A good and solid show. See setlist below. I thought both Mike and Bruce's voice held up quite well. And Brian Eichenbacher and Christian Love leads were good imo. The number of leadvocs by John and Scott seem to decrease... Nice to hear Mike speak fondly on his memories of their stay in The Netherlands while recording the Holland album. The Dec. 1970 night concert in Amsterdam (which was delayed almost 5 hours due to fog) was mentioned as well. They do remember those bits of history. The band (and families) are enjoying a free day today (very appropriate on July 4th). Tomorrow another show, near Rotterdam on the Tweede Maasvlakte. The exact location is unknown, but it's most probably on the beach. When travelling by car one apparently simply has to follow the signs when arriving in the area. From the parking lot busses will transport us to the venue. It's a concert with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. A relatively short set - 2 hours (starting at nine o'clock) including an intermission. Probably no rarities to be expected. But special nonetheless. This concert was organised by cruise company Spido to celebrate their 100th anniversary. https://www.spido.nl/en/tochten-cruises/consert-the-beach-boys-en-het-rotterdams-philharmonisch-orkest (no English page available with general info or for buying tickets) https://www.rotterdamsphilharmonisch.nl/en/agenda/176/The_Beach_Boys_en_het_Rotterdams_Philharmonisch_Orkest/100_jaar_Spido_The_Beach_Boys/Setlist Rotterdam, July 3rd 2019:First set: 1. And so, another thing Mike got away with . . . ... and I assume you didn’t record that little bit, right? COMMENT to SMiLE-Holland: Your assumption is correct. Please consider that I'm in a communist country with only one official between me and the Russian authority, my equipment is damaged in a way that could cancel the show unless I get it working, the surroundings are hostile and very uncomfortable, I've got kids hanging off the speakers and amplifier cases --- recording is not a priority. ~swd O, I'd definitely consider that as well if I were in your shoes. I was actually surprised others did take some chances (with this great story you told us as a result).

And so, another thing Mike got away with . . .
Mike became so frustrated with the audience, that, over the headphones, I could hear him shouting at the screaming kids, "Shut up you funking commies. What the hell did we come here for? No wonder you funking commies don't have Hammond organs!" and silly things like that.[/size] ~swd
... and I assume you didn’t record that little bit, right? I feel like an entire book could be written on this one event. COMMENT to Jay: Actually it has. One was published on the entire event in Czechoslovakia years ago. I know because I helped the author with his research. ~swd That’s a book I’d like to read one day.

(P.S. don’t tell . . . )
I know notting... So (1) Mike made a remark on Václav Havel sitting in the audience... and got away with it > Capitalists vs Communists 1-0 And (2) marvellous payback action with the tix > Ca vs Co 2-0. Just kidding here. Seriously, great story! Thanks for sharing! Note: not taking any political side or trying to derail this topic (although I don’t mind living in a capitalistic world...)The Maybe I'm wrong, but Wasn't the gentleman in the audience Alexander Dubcek? I know I thought of him as a hero during the Prague Spring and I wept when the tanks rolled in. Of course maybe Havel was there as well. Joining the chorus of thanking Mr Desper for his wonderful memories and insights. Yep, my bad. It was Dubcek.

Thanks for sharing your recollections with us, Stephen. I love these “behind the screens” type of stories. Weird to read that despite the political situation it was apparently approved that they could perform here. And that the Russiona army even supplied tank batteries to make it happen.
I also recall that their allowance isn’t exactly what they had expected. Iirc they / you had to spend the revenue before leaving the country, as it wasn’t allowed to take the local currecny across the border. Right?

I had the same question about Holland about a year ago and I asked around on this or another board and I was told that although “We Got Love” doesn’t appear on the track listing, it appears on the actual disc. I went ahead and got a copy and lo and behold, “We Got Love” appeared as an extra hidden track. So I believe you can still get a copy with “We Got Love” on it. (It’s possible I just got lucky I suppose.) Like you, I remember back when AP originally advertised “We Got Love” appearing on the CD, not sure why they removed all references to it and turned it into some sort of mystery later on.
It’s on the 2LP vinyl release as well. Again no mention on the sleeve or the labels, but it’s on the bonus LP, with Mt Vernon & Fairway and WGL on side 3, and -no clue why- SOS again, but on 45RPM (it has the same time notation as the album track on side 1. O, and it should be notee that WGL on the Analogue Productions releases is NOT the version that ended up on early promo’s from 1972 and a couple of hundred early German pressings from 1973. The AP releases on CD and LP contain a longer edit.

COMMENT (as of October 18, 2018)
I have taken down the entire website until further notice. The reason is that the terms of using the website, as clearly defined on page one, have been violated. By going to page two, the user agrees to the terms of page one.
In those terms the viewer agrees that mistakes or errors may exist, however carefully the contents are checked for accuracy. In a civil discourse a simple statement of disagreement would be sufficient, but the ensuing bullying has become relentless and completely out-of-control. The terms have been violated. As stated, if the terms are violated, I “will personally take down the website.”
My website is (was) provided free of charge to anyone who wishes to avail themselves of its content and who abides by the rules set forth. Some “fans” seem to have forgotten that I pay for the website and for housing all the study-videos on Vimeo. Their response to a statement I made concerning a mix I did of Sail On, Sailor (SOS) has been twisted into a statement I did not make. All my website says is that Carl Wilson sang on the a cappello segment provided. I have never said that Blondie Chaplin did not sing the lead on SOS. In fact I have stated the opposite.
These twisted statements plus other negative comments of some fans are now appearing on other web forums as fact. Such ridicule puts my website in jeopardy since it exists, by way of the Fair Use Doctrine, at the courtesy of BRI and Capitol. These false statements imply that I am questioning the integrity of BRI, which I am not.
It is unfortunate that a few fans have made a mockery of my good name by focusing on one item, thus overshadowing the original intent of my book as a source of engineering technique and Beach Boy memories of 46 years ago.
After taking time away from equipment development, neurological research and my home life, to satisfy the requests from fans to publish the second part of my book, I am sorry that I must now close my website and re-group. I realize this ends access to all the study-videos and books that the majority of fans appreciate, but I cannot let a few belligerent fans endanger the website. Access to the website will remain closed until I determine when it is safe to republish.

I should add... how many songs in the Beach Boys cannon have song titles based on real people? Off the top of my head, Caroline No, Marilyn Rovell, My Diane, Judy (?), and probably a few others I can't recall. Peggy might be one of the 1st Beach Boys song title namesakes to have left us Judy Bowles I presume? Other titles: Anna Lee, The Healer Carl's Big Chance Dennys's Drums

Glad you enjoyed it too. A question about Stamos on guitar: the man clearly oozes enthusiasm but I noticed him strumming all the way through the breaks in several songs! Wasn't he plugged in?! No matter----his drumming amply made up for it...
From my seat I couldn't see.

I was most impressed, with most things but particularly "THWFOS".
Just curious. During the concert I heard someone talking about that song, right behind me. Any chance you were seated on the 1st balcony left as well?

Go to it and enjoy. I saw them the first time in my life. When i watched them in Rotterdam june 5th it just was a dream come true.
F#CK the Mike Love haters out there. They sounded great!
I saw Brian 3 times but they are not as nearly as good as today BB touring band. If they come again next year i go again.

Got me a souvenir :-) Going to BW in Amsterdam or Utrecht next month as well, Dutchie? Hey y'all. Gonna give Mike and the Boys a chance with the Berlin concert Thursday night (as I've never seen this incarnation of the band live). Anyone else gonna be there? Enjoy the show, Lowbacca.
