Op Holland, dat op 8 Januari 1973 wordt uitgebracht, staan de volgende nummers: Sail On Sailor, Steamboat, California Saga: Big Sur, California Saga: The Beaks Of Eagles, California Saga: California, The Trader, Leavin' This Town, Only With You en Funky Pretty.

Translation:
On August 3rd 1972 the Beach Boys' record company organises a party for them in the Belle Ami club in Scheveningen [near The Hague]. Reason is the the recording of the Beach Boys new album have been finished a day earlier. During this evening Jack Rieley, the Beach Boys manager, announces that the album will be called "Holland". Reason is that the Beach Boys have been recording the album since June 3rd 1972 in Piet Visser's studio on the Rijksstraatweg 45 in Baambrugge. The Beach Boys - without Bruce Johnston, but with Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson, Blondie Chaplin, Ricky Fataar and Mike Love - have been living in [the region 't Gooi and in Bloemendaal. On August 5th 1972 the group leaves Schiphol Airport, and flies back to Los Angeles.
The Holland album, that is released on January 8th 1973, contains the following tracks: Sail On Sailor, Steamboat, California Saga: Big Sur, California Saga: The Beaks Of Eagles, California Saga: California, The Trader, Leavin' This Town, Only With You en Funky Pretty. The first issue contains a bonus single with the musical fairy tale Mount Vernon and Fairway, written by Brian Wilson. Sail On Sailor is the only Holland-track which wasn't recorded in The Netherlands. This song was recorded at the Village Recorders studio in Los Angeles, late November 1972. Blondie Chaplin sings the lead vocal on Sail On Sailor.

Some inaccuracies in this writing. And it is certain that the last recording in Baambrugge took place on August 15th (http://www.esquarterly.com/bellagio/gigs72.html). So them leaving on Aug. 5th is not true. But the date on which that party took place is most probably correct.

The boys getting ready to perform (lip-synch) Marcella in TopPop, The Netherlands, Feb 72.
That is; according to Keith Badman's book, if I'm correctly. Pretty strange if you consider that the single wasn't released yet. No video of the broadcast (in May 72) has ever re-surfaced unfortunately.

And in Ken Barnes's The BB - A Biography in Words & Pictures there's a picture with the boys on stage with Bruce and Blondie during a concert in LA in 1973.

Up till now I was kidding about it, but you're right, Mikie. The rules are clear about it: asking or offering unreleased material is not allowed on this board. And that goes for bootlegs as well, even if it's a 23yo vinly lp.

So, (1) this topic is locked and (2) nothing personal, TheLazenby, but here's an official warning for you

And by now I'm waiting for the other fan who wants this album as well and is willing to offer 5 bucks more than TheLazenby's highest offer...  Grin

And what kind of amp/pre-amp/tuner/equalizer/CD player do we have there?

Edit: You beat me to the punch! Yes, Alan and I hafta know what kinda Thorens that is. Looks like a nice one......

It's a Thorens TD 166 MKII.
And below there's my Phillips Audiosystem (930 / 931); it also includes a double cassette deck and digital cassette deck.
O, and way below (hardly visible) there's an old 8-track player as well.

Regarding the singles/EPs, what do you use to store them? Polyethylene outer sleeve? Backing boards? Removal of the disc from the picture/company sleeve and placed in a paper sleeve to prevent further ring wear?

I store all of my singles and EP in a plastic sleeve, with the single/EP separatedly stucked in a paper sleeve. Exactly as you described it. And I don't make a difference between picture sleeves and company sleeves. To a lesser degree I do the same with my albums and 12''s (33% I think). As for the plastic sleeves: mostly a standard one, some of them in a polyethylene sleeve (like Mikie does).

Klass, I use to have shelves like yours to store my vinyl. The shelves were compressed particle board sprayed black which required extra support in the middle so they wouldn't sag. Now it's all stored away in four solid oak cabinets which also serve as display cabinets. It's very nice but all stored away at the moment, as is most of my collection, pending a move. We really need an extra room to store it and have a small office, and house space is a very valuable commodity in this area.

I'm fortunate to have a lot of space for extra storage now. I can't add too many additional cupboards in the future though.

What does help to keep it conveniently arranged is that I don't have a very varied collection like bgas does. I don't have a lot of posters, displays, frames, and all kinds of memorabilia, which takes a lot of space if you want to display or even store them properly. So I can imagine that it's not easy to keep that organised.
135  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Nice looking tickets / Stubs ( April 20, 1968 ) on: November 19, 2014, 02:09:28 PM
Bgas, please take note of Klass' organizational skills. A place for everything and everything in its place. And the stereo system right there next to the collection so you don't have to carry the music to another room. Nice shelving with cabinets overhead, everything nice and neat, spotlights placed strategically on the track lighting fixture and not too close to the vinyl to cause potential warpage.....

These pictures should go into "Record Collector's Journal"  or  "Stereo Monthly"  or ESQ. Yeah, ESQ!  All that's missing is the female model to demonstrate the wares.

Klass, very nice.

Thanks for the compliments, Mike... but... by now I'm also curious on your collection, especially the organisational part of it.  Roll Eyes
I mean; I can't be the only one organising it this way...

O, and you haven't seen my desk (which I was smart enough about to leave out of the pictures  Grin )... my wife would definitely not agree on my organisation skills,I can tell you.
136  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Nice looking tickets / Stubs ( April 20, 1968 ) on: November 19, 2014, 02:05:42 PM
Yeah, I better get another expedit - my vinyl is a little too tightly packed compared to this.

Also, nice looking turntable, a Thorens TD 160 or 166 mk2?

In fact I only recently bought extra cupboard space. Just a few monts ago it was probably fully stacked like yours.  Smiley

Thorens indeed, but tbh, I can't say if it's 160 or 166 (it doesn't say). I'll have to look up the manual to make sure.
137  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Nice looking tickets / Stubs ( April 20, 1968 ) on: November 19, 2014, 02:02:46 PM
@SMiLE Holland

Is your book shelf an IKEA Expedit?

As a Swede I demand to know.

Yes sir.  Grin
Most of my cupboards are from Ikea btw... Not that strange if you take into account that the nearest Ikea is only a 5-minute drive away...

And as a Dutchy I now demand to now "why on earth did Ikea stop producing Expedit and started Kallax instead?" I was able to buy a few more 1x5 cupboards 2nd hand fortunately, but they aren't made anymore... shame !

Some pics from my music room...

LP's, magazines in the baskets below, books, toorbooks, and memorabilia (in the maps below) on the right, more mags behind the top doors, plus my spare singles

and in case you wondered what's behind the doors... there's that Barbie doll...  Grin

On the opposite side of the room: singles, 8-tracks, reels, dvd's, video's on the left, singles on the right (and a few 8-tracks... I just started reorganising my collection in those cupboards)

and a bit more to the right: cassettes, case with posters, cd's, boxes, and behind/below the door up right spare lp's and other stuff)

The wife doesn't really agree on that particular item though  Grin
I could make some pictures later today. Don't expect an as impressive collection as bgas's or Pany's though...

There's another real nice collection belonging to a guy in Sacramento that you met at Pany's house this year, Klass. Nice guy too.

That was a heck of a collection. Time was too short that day. But we all enjoyed it immensely (and his wife is a great cook !  Smiley )

Yep, the California Dream Barbie from 1987. Complete with the Living Doll maxi-single. Essential collectible for any serious collector.

I'd like to see your collection, Klass!

And as with any of our collectibles, you'll want both label variations for the Living Doll single.

Have to schedule a trip to the Netherlands to see your collection, Klaas!  Is there a Stomp convention next year?

O yeah, forgot about that (again); I only have the light blue one...

And you're (very) welcome to come over and stay here, bgas ! The next Stomp Convention is scheduled on Saturday, September 19th 2015, with (hopefully) Ed Carter and Mike Kowalski as special guests. And there's an annual German fan meeting as well, usually on the first Saturday in September (in case you want to practice your knowledge and pronunciation of the German language)

Ah, the Barbie doll, way up on one of the cupboards. An essential asset for every serious BB collection !  Grin

Really, I should have made a stop at your place last summer, when I had the chance  (but I didn't, one of my biggest regrets, my bad, guess I'll have to live with it...)

How many of you here have the 3-lp colored vinyl SMiLE?

And did any of you get it from someone here on the board?

Got it as well. Bought it at a record fair in the mid 90ies.

145  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The complete album chronology - is this it?! on: October 23, 2014, 02:30:18 AM
See, that's the problem - a lot of the issues people are pointing out are explained (in detail) in the discography.... this is just a list of what I cover to make sure I have everything I need. :-P

Well, all I wanted to do is getting the facts straight, not making a problem of it. Soul Meeting is a great album to have, and fits nicely in the Flames catalogue, but it's not a Flames album, which the explanation does suggest. After all, "Chicago VII" (under 'Beach Boys', featuring Chicago) and "Caribou" (under 'Carl Wilson and Bruce Johnston' - featuring Elton Jonh) aren't mentioned either.  Grin  But all is good.  Smiley

Anyway. I understand what you goal is with this list. In that case you can add the album "Picaresque" by Ray Ohara, under ' Blondie Chaplin'. All lead vocals are by Blondie. And "Here Comes The Night" by David Johansen. Blondie (co)wrote most of the tracks, and plays guitar and sings backgroundvocals on the album. Both albums aren't highly regarded, but if you want to get your list as complete as possible...

And there's a compilation album of David Marks and the Marksmen as well ("Ultimate Collector’s Edition 1963–1965").

correction: Soul Meeting is not a Flames album but a Una Valli album (and a good one btw), backed up (50-50%) by The Flames and The Peanut Butter Conspiracy

No one is saying any curse words to anyone. Rather, as I see it, all the BB are trying to find their way and to comprehend what "together" can possibly mean in the here and now. What will Al think of this?  It will likely make him tall Brian and Make that "we got to do something together."

So I hope.
hey kofi annan. Why dont you shut the F up already and retire?

I live in Michigan, and when I tell people that they usually say 'I'm sorry!', because they associate Detroit with the entire state. The state has seen better days for sure, but I know spots in the northern part of the Lower Peninsula that rival 9 out of 10 places. Beaches and forests that would knock your socks off. There's plenty of decay in areas, but there are also places that are incredibly beautiful.
I'm also from Michigan, and I can attest to this.  The whole region around Grand Traverse Bay, as well as the Lake Michigan side by Leland and Glen Arbor, is really beautiful.

When we were in the States in June this year, it was great to end our trip in San Francisco again. We had a blast that last week. But I won't forget our first week in Michigan either (and for that matter the whole trip from Gr.Rapids to S.Fr, through Colorado). We had a fantastic time there. Even our day trip to (of all places) Detroit was worth it.

O, and the Corner Record Shop in Grandville is one heck of a record shop !!
