Glad to see some open minds. Just gonna cut to the chase though- this album shouldn't get ANY HATE.
NOTHING here is badly written, even the lyrics are top-notch for Brian. Half the album features vocals handpicked to sound perfect for the track.
You can call it trash, you can call it unlistenable, that's great. It's not an opinion to say this is well written.
Joe Thomas can be blamed for some stuff, but Brian goshdarn Wilson delivered something even his GREATEST fans don't deserve. No one can understand how hard this must be for him. God bless that man.

Not gonna track by track but here's the deal-
This album is incredibly well made, it has a very nice consistency while also maintaining variety.
The songs are all very well done and I'd really only change a few things.
This album also features some songs I'd call classics, actually, MANY.
This Beautiful Day, The Last Song, Whatever Happened, GYHTBT, Sat Night... the list goes on...
Worth the wait. Brian's best solo album. hands down. (BWPS is not included...)

Full review soon... But I just re read the article where Brian said he "fears death" and listened to the first track.
Broke down, got sick. I feel like I literally got kicked in the stomach. He feels like he's trying so hard to remain optimistic and maintain "This Beautiful Day" and his amazing lead on that track is just too much. I need a break, this is already kicking my ass.

JESUS, ever heard a song you really love and then you look and like TONS of people hate it? That seems like this for me. SMART GIRLS?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!
I feel like most people here just wanted more music like they were getting. I love, and I mean like, talked a bunch with many of, Brian's backing group, but many of them did such more interesting stuff before Brian. And this feels like they all, including Brian, are FINALLY mixing it up.
Couldn't possibly dig it more, actually, I think the chorus is my least favorite part...

It has nothing in common with Love You. The two are similar in how people react to them. Love You is an album that people either really love or really hate, and Runaway Dancer seems to be getting similar reactions from people. The reactions may be similar, the music is not. From a purely musical standpoint: the basslines and structure... The instrumentation... It actually IS a lot like Love You.

People seem to be assessing the song in very different ways.
This type of music is not to be looked at under the same light as traditional Brian.
For example, here I am looking almost exclusively for a BASSLINE. In today's cars, that us youngins drive, you find likely that the bass is cranked all the way up. This is awful for most music, but listen to that bass! I can hear it already shaking the whole street on the drive off campus.
Harmonies. They're for atmosphere here, then they kick it up for the chorus.
As for hook, it should be incredibly basic.
"Yeah it's been the talk of the town... Runaway Dancer..."
If it hasn't been stuck in your head, you aren't even letting it take you over.
Don't look at this and say "this is awkward because a 72 year old is trying to be hip"
Look at this as "FatherOfTheMan showed this to his buddies who like the dirtiest bass and simple hooks and they even went and bought it"
It's gonna be a big one, and that's good because it's straight up, simple and clean BDubs music. I hear him all over it.

A perfect song. I love everything about it.
It's a dream come true, Brian is truly in control and you can hear it. He's happy. He's got poppy amazing basslines.
This is like an orgy of R.A.M and BDubs harmonies.
I love it I love it I love it.
This needs to be everywhere, please. Radio. TV. Movies. Everwhere. I love the lyrics too, they tell a cool modern tale.
EDIT: Adult Contemporary? My favorite part of this song is Brian is ignoring his age. MAKE THE MUSIC YOU WANT DUDE THIS AMAZING.

Anybody think of Summer's Gone as soon as hearing This Beautiful Day?
Runaway Dancer kicks ass, too. I know it'll be a divisive track here, but I love the sh*t out of what I've heard of it.
Guess You Had to be there sounds like a hit too.
I'm kind of on the fence with Sail Away, actually. The clips I've heard so far haven't blown me away, but I'm expecting the full thing will be pretty spiffy.
One Kind of Love sounds pretty good.
Saturday Night needs to be a single too. I've become a fan of fun. over the past year so this hit the spot for me.
Runaway dancer has been 1 minute looping on my PC for 12 hours while I worked That fu*kin song.
