What does Brian have to say? I've never heard/read his thoughts on POB.

Any info on the studio session footage in the new video? Are those real or 'fake' like the ones on BWPS dvd?
229  Smiley Smile Stuff / Concert Reviews / Re: Brian Wilson / Al Jardine Pet Sounds show Keswick Theatre 2006 on: June 23, 2008, 11:13:33 PM
I saw Brian/Al in DC the night before. I don't know what it was but Brian seemed more up then he was at the show you went to. It was great seeing Al sing lead vocals on GREAT live performances, but I do admit noticing that he looked a little lost when he wasn't actively particpating. Which then turned into woefully obvious attempts at looking like he wasn't lost.

That was a great night in DC, wasn't it? The performances were outstanding I thought. My first time seeing Brian live and Al for that matter...what a treat.

Nice video, can't wait to hear the final product!

Is Paul still with the band/on the album? or did he leave too? Did they just get that woodwind player shown for that one-off gig at Capitol?
231  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: POB Bambu on Vinyl! on: June 22, 2008, 09:59:06 PM
Odd joke...since Capitol has ZERO to do with the POB/Bambu release it is a stretch. But anyway...I did get to hold in my hands an advance copy of the Sundazed three LP Blue vinyl POB/Bambu set and it is absolutely SPECTACULAR!!! Truly beautiful...and heavy. I suggest everyone order one, find one, get one...they are so damn cool.

This might be a dumb question, but how does the POB re-release vinyl sound compared to original POB vinyl? And does the vinyl POB/Bambu sound the same as the CD? I might be repeating myself somewhere...it's late haha Thanks! Smiley

I wish NY was a little closer to me,  I would definitley go! But it's not meant to be, unfortunately. This will be my first non-Beach Boys concert summer since 2005  Sad Sad
235  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: CHRIS FARMER'S CD IS NOW IN STOCK! on: May 30, 2008, 11:58:50 PM
I shoulda known, oh well haha

Sure, no problem. Here's a clip of him w/Mike & Bruce playing & singing lead on "Youre So Good To Me" if youre interested http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o04ouuEpX5U

I think Randall Kirsch (spelling?) is now playing bass instead of Chris (who isnt in the band anymore from what I heard, could be wrong). Randall does a pretty good falsetto when I saw them a couple times.

you're thinking of Chris Farley I believe. Farmer was the bassist for the current Beach Boys/Mike & Bruce show for a while

is "Fever" the jazz tune ("never knew how much I loved you, never knew how much I cared?") or something Dennis wrote?

I prefer the 2-CD set "All The Hits: From Surf City to Drag City", my real introduction to the group after listening to Oldies radio

While we're on the topic, here's Mark A. Moore's petition for a Jan & Dean career-spanning box set:

What song are we talking about? For some reason I have thread topic as "\".

Sorry I dont know why it did that, but yes Let Him Run Wild

No. Fourteen: Yeah I agree with you about his "punchy" style (punchiness? hah)

LostArt: But doesnt Brian sing high during the whole song? Or do you mean just in the chorus?

Nevertheless, its still a great song  Smiley
246  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / "Let Him Run Wild" Discussion on: June 26, 2007, 07:47:23 AM
As we know, Brian still doesn't care for his vocal on this song (the original, not the version on "Imagination"). Let's look at other voices who could have sung it if Brian didn't on the original recording. My vote would be for Al. I think his voice would fit perfectly for that song, listen to the backing track from Stack 'O Tracks and picture Al singing it. You would still have Brian on the high parts in the chorus, just have Alan sing the lead. Thoughts?
247  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Live in Norway - the whole show online on: June 21, 2007, 09:35:40 PM
I like the fact that you can hear the keys better in this mix (not Brian's intros mind you, but the keys in Marcella, Good Vibrations, etc). Marcella is SUCH a killer song live, I agree with the above posts that Brian should release it as a single
248  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Please Let Me Wonder on: June 21, 2007, 08:52:00 PM
I recently recorded a tenor sax solo version of "Please Let Me Wonder" that I performed today. I didn't perform the song note-for-note as I turned it into a jazz/improv version. I play the main intro melody as well as the verse and chorus, then go into improv mode. It's just me on tenor sax. It's not much, I might do a new version later on like add a couple more instruments, but I liked what I had done so here it is!

249  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1970's Beach Boys Albums / Re: The Beach Boys In Concert on: June 16, 2007, 04:05:01 PM
One of my top favorite Beach Boys albums EVER! We Got Love is really catchy (to me), REALLY great renditions of all the songs (I would prefer the standard version of Help Me Rhonda myself, but I guess it wouldnt fit the setlist). But MARCELLA blows me away everytime I listen to it on this one. I was humming the guitar solo in my head while I was out today and caught my self whistling it. Although I agree there should be some Denny tunes, it's still a great album "5" hands down.
250  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1970's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Beach Boys '69 (Beach Boys Live In London) on: June 14, 2007, 01:15:53 PM
I've been listeing to this album on rotation today and each time I listen I like it even more. Great vocal performances as well as great horns and the rest of the back up band. Favorites: Do It Again, Aren't You Glad & Wake The World. Love the muted trumpet section in Wake The World

Question on Wake The World: Is that Al singing Brian's high parts "when you're callin' me", etc.?
