actually this IS them and it is real....this is a well known bootleg recording ,,,of course it is just jamming like most of the Get Back sessions and it has bits of "two of us" on it ..and even if it wasn't a well known bootleg recording it's pretty obvious that it IS The Beatles based on their voices alone but also it is very consistent with the other known Get Back stuff..

I know nothing about autotune, beyond what it sounds like. Is the severity of the autotune enhanced by the amount of correction needed to apply to the notes? In other words, if the notes are only slightly off, will the autotune be less obvious?
That's correct. I have used Autotune myself, and I speak from experience by saying that if a note is sung further off from the intended note, the pitch correction artifacts will be far more obvious and icky/robotic sounding. If something is sung just a little bit off, usually it won't really be noticeable. There are other factors as well, such as how prominent in the mix the vocal is, etc. There are numerous ways to cleverly disguise Autotune being used, and to make its usage super transparent. It takes skill, time, and patience. I don't begrudge its usage in and of itself - just when it's done sloppily or obviously. But I think some producers either get overconfident in their work, or they actually like the way the artificiality sounds as an artistic choice (because they are used to hearing that type of robotic sound on hit songs on commercial radio). I can't quite figure out JT's intent, but IMHO I think it's a combination of both of those. I imagine that the thought in making certain things sound intentionally robotic might have been "that's what listeners want nowadays" or something like that. Not this listener. Compare to the minimal Autotune heard on the Gershwin album. I didn't even know it was there in a few spots until someone pointed it out to me, and even then, you have to listen realllly carefully to hear it. They went to great lengths not only to get a great vocal performance, but to make sure that any Autotuning was done tastefully and as transparently as possible. Absolutely different approach to JT. Why a decision was made to not continue doing records the Gershwin way is beyond me. I'm guessing maybe it's because that record didn't sell, and somebody's bright idea was to "fix" the "problem" with a Young Hip Modern Sound. Trey Parker (one of the South Park creators) claims that when he had to use Autotune (to do the Kanye West "gay fish" episode) he had to sing way off tune in order to make it sound like it was in tune....lol....so he was basically hinting (in his own way) that Kanye can't sing...which cracked me up...lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4EGYmyC4m4

well we have "Looking back with Love", a huge chunk of "MIU", "Nascar", "SIP" and the "Mike and Dean" recordings which would give us an indication as to what his other recordings would sound like,,,And as far as Boots go we have "Country Love" (which is absolutely horrific) "First Love" (which is okay in parts) and the "Bakers Dozen" (which is slightly better than the others but not great) and so with the exception of maybe 7 or 8 decent to good songs out of ALL of these albums I just mentioned, these songs are really dire.. also he tends to do too many cover tunes which tend to be generic sounding (especially the Mike and Dean stuff) and yes it sounds like he is singing karaoke...

using songs that weren't released (by the Beach Boys) on other beach Boy (or solo albums) that we know about, I think they could have released a decent album,,,something like this
Side A (Contemplative side) 1. Out in the country 2. California Feeling' 3. Awake (Brian on vocals) 4. Wouldn't be nice to live again 5. Our solution 6. Daddy Dear 7. barnyard Blues 8. Sweet Mountain (Brian Vocal)
Side B (Pop Rock Side) 1. Seasons in the sun 2. Soulful Old Man Sunshine 3. carnival/ Loop De loop 4. Can't wait too long 5. Sherry She Needs me 6. Old Man river

I think the problem with this version of the song is that (like 15 big ones) it seems that when members of the Beach Boys do cover songs, especially with synths, it doesn't come off as being very good, the original songs on this cd are really good but the cover tunes seem to fall flat... The same with when Mike was doing cover songs with the "Mike and dean" stuff (and solo albums) the cover songs on MIU/KTSA and the cover tunes on SIP..it seems that (with the exception of some of the cover tunes from the early years like "Do you wanna dance", "Hushabye" and "Sloop John B") the Beach Boys as a band as a solo artists do BETTER with their original songs..

Hey myKe! Why do you think people think of you as a flaming asshole? Do really think you and Br00th are the real Beach Boys? How many more times will you be married? Why do your solo albums suck so much? Besides your excuse for not meditating( ), why the R&R HOF speech? Will you ever have the balls to perform from now on without your hat? Explain the need for Br00th. And finally, at what age did Clarabell (Howdy Doody) become your role model? This old man would love to have a couple of rounds with a punk like you and your mouth. What in hell? Could Oldsurferdude (or mixdown producer) really be Mike Love? nah it couldn't be..... Could it? Hmmmm interesting.....lol

What is the story behind behind this one? who wrote it, what album was it an outtake of? It is actually a nice little song, although it doesn't sound finished,,, it sounds like Mike and maybe Carl (?) but can't say for sure,, it sounds like they have scratch vocals on certain parts because it sounds like Carl (?) (or someone who sounds like him) singing "do do do do Etc" then Mike comes in singing "Hot Summer Lover" over and over again,,, I can't seem to find it on youtube,,,

I hope after this they start doing documentaries on other Beach Boys Albums, (excluding "Smile" since we already have one on it) maybe one on "Love You" or "Friends" or maybe one on both "Today" and "Summer Nights" since those two kind of go together, or maybe one on the late 60's ending in 1970 from "Smiley Smile" to "Sunflower"...I think we have enough documentaries on "Pet Sounds".

what's the story behind "Oh Darlin" was that an older Brian song dusted off for the album or was it a song he started (on a demo?) and Mike finished it? also was "Jamaican Farewell" one of the choices for the album like the rumors say? and if so is there an actual Beach Boys version of that song in the vaults?
COMMENT to joshferell: It's not outside the realm of posibillities, but I can bring no facts to the subject. Sorry ~swd That's okay.... :-)
