something just came to me about this whole Dennis Wilson situation. now this may be far fetched but WHAT IF the Beach Boys are releasing a new album next year and they are saving a couple of his songs to finish and place it on there, Ala: Free as a bird or Soul Searchin'. just a thought. but of course if one of them sees this. that may not be a bad idea, plus an unreleased Carl song too..hint hint...

I would like to see a Brians Back Era cd set, 3 cds remixed, first disc would be 15 BOs with the songs originally recorded for it but were left off as bonus songs, and demos and alt takes. disc 2 with Love You and as bonus tracks all the tracks done as Stack O Tracks and disc 3 more demos, early Love You mixes, single mixes, and Adult Child. but please don't wait for 2027 for an anniversary release , this one should be released within the next couple years, should be an ACTUAL cd, and not just a download only release. HINT HINT!!

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: WIBN in final (?) Nancy comic strip

So ... anyway ... I'm still shocked by two revelations from this whole discussion: 1.) People actually read that Nancy comic? I've always lumped it in with Family Circus and skipped it. 2.) Now that the comic referenced the Beach Boys, do I have to go back and read 80-some years of strips to get the payoff?
Some strips are still in the newspaper because of name recognition, like the strips you mentioned. Most have run their course but have such popular name recognition that they are still there... Garfield is a good example of that..

I've never read Nancy before, but if the humour has consistently been of this calibre then why are they ending it?
Surely there are at least another 85 years of side splitting gags like the one show cased above.
Actually Nancy ran its course decades ago, in fact there was a time period in the 80's and 90's when all they did was redo vintage Nancy strips word for word just with updated clothing and modern day background scenery..then they got caught and there was some controversy and they then started doing new original strips which apparently didn't last long since it has now ended.

From Lee's post on PSF:
According to the new winter edition of Endless Summer Quarterly, published today:
Sunshine Tomorrow 2 - 29 additional tracks from the Smiley Smile sessions, the Lei'd in Hawaii Wally Heider Studio sessions, and the Wild Honey sessions, including the unreleased "Good News" Live Sunshine - 109 performances from 7 shows in 5 states during the 1967 tour
109 performances? How many discs is this going to be...lol

I'm glad someone brought up K-tell because that was something I was thinking too.. K-tell was a record label that used to sign "has been" oldies bands and singers to re-record their hit songs in usually crappy rearrangements on cheap studio equipment sometimes with synths, the reason for this is because they couldn't actually use the original masters because the original record companies who originally signed them owned the masters. So we get people like Little Richard, Herman's Hermits, The Classics 4, Jerry Lee Lewis and Jan and Dean rerecording their songs so they can get them released through K-tell (and other smaller labels) also can anyone say "Mike and Dean" lol...not only that but it seems Love is pulling a Ray Stevens, if you notice Stevens has rerecorded ALL of his hits but not only that but he keeps on rereleasing his newer songs from the 80's and 90's on ALL of his new albums mixed in with brand new songs...

I wonder if Carl was thinking that the Paley stuff sounded TOO vintage sounding, too 60's and maybe thought they sounded dated..of course that's the part of the songs I like best and I hope Brian does one more Wall of sound 60's sounding CD soon..it seem Carl was into the more mello A&R type stuff in line with Chicago and Christopher Cross while the BB were doing songs with heavy drum machines, heavy synths and heavy guitars..the Paley stuff sounded more like Today or Summer Days/Nights than Problem Child,...

I wonder if VDP's attitude towards Brian these days goes back to OCA? I recall an interview where VDP talked about touring with BW in support of the album. Is Van Dyke bitter because that didn't happen? Denny Laine made the mistake of talking to a writer back in the 80's sort of "off the record", and then those stories ended up in the tabloids. Denny never has an unkind word for McCartney these days, but it seems it is too little, too late. Macca seems to be in touch with other ex-Wings like Denny Seiwell, but Laine is like...well, it's like he never existed.
. The same with Pete Best... it's unfortunate because I would have loved to have seen Pete Best on the Beatles anthology series speaking with Paul, George and Ringo about the early years..oh well...
