The search function is pretty hard top use when there's multiple ways of asking a question

Problem Child was always a guilty pleasure of mine - I've even got both the cassette single and CD promo!

On the comparisons to Rock n Roll to the Rescue... The RNRTTR video is the best this the boys did. hands down.
205  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Amusement Parks U.S.A - thumbs up or thumbs down? on: March 12, 2014, 11:42:26 AM
Neutral. I love the backing track but the words are a massive turn off. The themes in the song had been explored much better in earlier songs.

Exactly. I don't even like Amusement Parks that much, and I don't hail from the U.S.A. - This song was never gonna work on me!

It's not a real live performance per say though, just Brian singing on top of the album track with the other guys miming.

I do remember hearing that an actual live '65 version with Brian was under consideration for release on MIC.

It's even Brian singing WITH his studio vocal - unless he doubletracks naturally... like he did in the 2012 videos! CONSPIRACY!!

On a more serious note, it's Brian's inevitably angelic vocal I'd be most excited for in a truly live performance. And what exists here is a great example of that even in a botched form...
207  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Chick Tracks on: March 12, 2014, 01:37:04 AM
Went with Caroline No which was my choice pretty easily.  I'm actually quite a big fan of Anna Lee the Healer, which I imagine won't get much attention among that list of songs.

I really like Anna Lee too, but I also chose Caroline No. A classic's a classic. I only want to hear the train sounds if I listen to the whole album though. It's a bit of a distraction on a playlist.

In which case, the 45 edit is on both boxsets I have...

I went with Sherry in the end, but only marginally missed Caroline. My favourite name too Sad

But there's something about Sherry... something.

Count me in the crowd that dislikes Girls On The Beach.

I dislike Surfer Girl sometimes too.

They're essentially the same some afterall

Freddie, you have a rare vocal gift, and should never sit in silence.  Personally I value my contemplative moments.

If you want to call it that. It's not like it actually has any use though.

My god..... now people need a computer program to tell them which song they're listening to the most!!! This is whilst they walk along wearing those stupid, mongy big headphones and those horrible skin-tight yellow trousers, not looking where they're going because they're too busy prodding away on their  "smart" phones with a slack jawed expression on their faces.

I wear big flappy flares and listen to albums all the way through[/b], and when I go out I only move for old people, disabled people, those with prams and / or heavy shopping. My thread trolling is also purely old skool. Wham, bam, and I'm off over to Youtube to spread some more grammatically correct hate.

I do the same - but if I have 5 mins before I leave I'm got gonna sit in silence for 5 mins am I?

I'm probably one of the few who prefer CATP to this.

Little Saint Nick and Long Promised Road are both tied on my Last.fm scrobble at 25 plays.

Yeah, my last.fm [which is since october - post TWGMTR attack but catching the end of MIC] tops off with:

1) It's Over Now (Alternate Mix) - 24
2) The Little Girl I Once Knew - 22
3) Stevie - 22
4) Sherry She Needs Me (1965 Track With 1976 Vocal) - 21
5) Good Vibrations - 17

And rather worryingly...

6) HEY LITTLE TOMBOY - 13

You can see the evidence here: http://www.last.fm/user/FJFP/library/music/The+Beach+Boys

Only With You. Much prefer the POB bonus track version.

Well, this isn't wholly accurate since I play vinyl mostly, so my digital collection is weighted by drumming songs, digital only tracks and TWGMTR [pre Vinyl release]. Hence why my list is dominated by TWGMTR at the top. I also tend to play albums rather than single tracks but regardless, here is the list:

I greatly dislike Carl's vocal here. I have no idea why. It just doesn't feel right. Mike's vocal is great because he sounds like a little kid.

It always seemed to weirdly suit Love You to me... no idea why though
220  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: So which is the original? on: February 27, 2014, 09:52:21 AM
I have a copy of "Friends/20/20" which was bought when it was released in 1990 as well as the 2001 release.  Now aside from the version of "Ol' Man River" being different on the two releases, I have also noticed (particularly on the "Friends" album) that there fade outs are slightly faster too.  "Be Here In The Morning" and "Anna Lee, The Healer" have shorter fade outs when compared to the 2001 release.  What I am wondering is, which is a true representation of how the album (Friends) sounded when it was released in 1968 with regard to the fade outs?  Did it have the faster fade outs as heard on the 1990 release of the album or rather that of the 2001 release?  Why would those involved change something like that in the first place?

Not having a vinyl copy to hand I can't guide you, but the version of friends I have on my PC always sounded akin to that copy... I think my Friends mp3 is 1990, sinc eit down't appear top be heavily compressed...

David Lee Roth never grew up, his antics are tiresome.

Yeah...

For anyone who has not seen it, here is David Lee Roth's cover of California Girls.

Pretty not great.

Don't forget Carl's on that.

The one and only good thing about living in Coventry is that it never floods.

Not a thing here [Though I haven't been here for 12 days], and as far as I know nothing back home in Gravesend either!

My 3rd favourite Beach Boys album, but MAKE IT GOOD was always problematic - I can't understand a single word in the song!
