I know this has probably been asked and answered many times but couldn't find it in the search. Did Brian Wilson learn the bass guitar for the Beach Boys or did he know how to play before the band formed?

Is there video footage existing of Brian performing Melt Away?

I think he performed it on the "I just wasn't made for these times" documentary.

Painful to come on here without having mine yet

Don't worry my friend. Just keep saying "It WILL be in my hands!", but I know what you'll really be saying..."I WANT THIS BOXSET FUC*ING NOW!"

I hope they release another rarities CD. I don't wanna die without hearing the "In The Back Of My Mind" 1975 piano demo.

Got mine yesterday! Can't stop listening to it! I like the "Yearbook" layout.

Comment

Brian Wilson is the greatest songwriter of all time, I hope the world knows that.

Just one for me.

"In The Back Of My Mind" (Brian's 1975 piano demo)

I hope I don't die before I get to hear this. Its the only unreleased track I've ever wanted to hear.
A fan can dream.

Didn't someone say that since the smile box came out new material has come to light?

Mhmm, nothing major though, just Surf's Up Part 2 and a Holidays vocal acetate ft. Mike doing the pirate rap. We've devoted too much attention to the Smile era of the band lately though, I hope they overlook this stuff in favour of sharing some of the 1991 studio sessions!

Sad thing is, it could be out there........somewhere.........waiting to be found
14  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian's codas on: February 24, 2013, 05:46:19 PM
'When I Grow Up To Be A Man' - that's one coda that I wish lasted for a bit longer.

Won't last forever.

Sorry man, I had to. But you're right, its one of the best codas.

I always knew Brian's "gruff" voice was a put on.

I think Brian is keener to have hit albums than anyone else so would be the last person who would want to release uncommercial music.

That's true but Brian has been out of touch with what make a commercial hit for 40 years or so.

Probably because he quit listening to new music decades ago, and is stuck in the 50s and 60s as far as tastes. I've always been of the belief that the moment you quit listening to new things is the moment you quit growing as a songwriter and artist.

I heard him say in an interview from 1989 that he really enjoyed Tears for Fears' music.

Who are the women singing on "Got to know the Woman"?

Julia Tillman, Carolyn Willis, and Edna Wright. Sunset Sound February 14th, 1969.

I read that Paul and Tommy were getting back together to record a single, and the $$ from the sales was going to pay Slim D`s medical bills.

I have to ask dude. Whats your favorite Replacements album?

The Beach Boys - All I Wanna Do

It takes me to another place, away from the world.
Well, that's pretty much explains why of all the BBs songs you chose this exact for covering. Iirc, you did an instrumental.

I'm a backround singer, too scared to sing lead.  Grin

I also listen to Husker Du's "No Reservations" a lot too.

1.California Feelin 74
2. In the Back of My Mind 75
3. Wouldnt it be nice to live again
4. You've lost that Lovin' Feelin
5. Anything from the early to mid 70s that is unbooted

Same here, but "In the Back of My Mind" 75 would be my number one.
