I worked on this compilation of Four Seasons sound-alikes from the 60s. Not covers of songs by The Four Seasons, but original songs inspired by their sound. I think a lot of you here would like it!
There are lengthy sound samples of each track at the link below:

The new Pugwash is pretty good. Think Beatles/ELO/Power Pop:

Thanks guys, glad ya'll are digging it! It was a fun little Sunday afternoon project. I intentionally tried to sing it with early 60's BW vocal characteristics (over the sampled Walk On By instrumental of course) to give an approximation of what it could've sounded like. Although I think it may have ended sounding a little more like Carl.  Smiley

Here's a stereo remix for the completists:

This is my favorite - love the double tracked vocals!
(Are the drums sampled from IJWMFTT?)

Very good! You even mixed it to mono!

That being said, during the encore in Philly, EVERY song there had the crowd really energized, but then Barbara Ann came on and you could tell the crowd was a bit less enthusiastic about it. So perhaps it should be retired from Brian's setlist.

I was like five seats down from you and I didn't get that vibe at all.  Grin

Anyone who thinks it should be removed from ANY setlist of a Beach Boys related concert should think again (especially a certain board member who never fails EVERY TIME IT IS MENTIONED FOR THE SONG'S BANISHMENT FROM CONCERTS - yeesh, get over it). People come to hear the hits, mostly. It was one of their biggest hits. It's not art, but it's fun. Sing along, have a good time, The Beach Boys make you feel good.

Following the 2012 reunion tour, 2016 would've been the next logical time/year to have another Beach Boys' tour with the original members. The 50th Anniversary of Pet Sounds and/or Good Vibrations is a valid, and more importantly, marketable theme. The problem is that it's already August and the next thing you know it will be Christmas. Unless they would be targeting late 2016, isn't it a little late to be planning such a tour? Not to open up that can of worms again, but I would think Mike & Bruce are already booking dates for 2016.

Let's say they were looking at a "Pet Sounds Reunion" tour (or whatever) for the Summer of 2016. They wouldn't be announcing that right now anyway. They probably wouldn't announce something like that until February or March of next year. We don't know what's being talked about.

When was C50 announced in relation to the start of the tour?

Got my (overpriced) ticket. Should be a great show. I saw them last year for $22, this show was $70 for decent seats. Worth it, though.
85  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Good M&B \ on: July 22, 2015, 11:19:02 AM
There's no way they got close to 65 songs. Wonder how many they actually did - around the usual 40 for this type of venue?
86  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: BB/BW music in movies on: July 12, 2015, 08:33:33 AM
I redbox'ed (is that a verb?) the new movie "No Way Jose" starring Adam Goldberg and was pleasantly surprised to hear the bulk of "Little Bird" featured.

Not much more to add to Guitarfool's post - but I was at the Philly show as well, and it was wonderful to meet and hang with some of the board members here. In the sea of a few thousand, I felt I was at home with people who shared the love of the best music ever made. Brian was the best I've ever seen him in concert. The set list satisfied hit seekers as well as hard-core fans.

That just reminded me of the God Only Knows intro from Philly on Monday night

"I've written a lot of songs.  I've heard this one is the best one.  Maybe it is.  God Only Knows."

He also swapped out "a lot of people out there hurtin'" with "a lot of people getting shot" in L&M  LOL
89  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian UK tour postponed? on: June 24, 2015, 09:03:32 AM
UK or not, can we not complain about Brian Wilson, 50 years after Pet Sounds was created, touring and performing the whole thing?
90  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: How did Revolver & Sgt Pepper Affect Brian? on: June 10, 2015, 09:17:44 AM
According to Catch a Wave when Brian heard Strawberry Fields on the radio he said to someone "they did it already.." as in they did what he was wanting to do on Smile.

Edit: I'm now doubting this was in the book.. I may have read it elsewhere. I've been doing a lot of reading about BW/Beach Boys recently.

This was in the BWPS doc.
91  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Harmony pre-Bruce vs Bruce in the band on: June 09, 2015, 09:27:06 AM
I have to agree, Bruce's vocals are very nice throughout the whole album. I have a question, are any Beach Boys on Strange World? As with the other tunes where I can pick out voices, on this one I cannot.

If you listed super closely with headphones you can hear a low bass vocal during the chorus that sounds like Mike.
92  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Live from Philly any minute now on: May 15, 2015, 10:46:01 AM
Wish I would have known about this when tickets were still available! I would have taken the day off work and went down. This is the first time since...I can remember...that information about a Brian appearance wasn't announced here well in advance of when it was happening.  Angry
93  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Tame Impala . . . on: May 08, 2015, 05:08:32 AM
I'm a huge fan of Lonerism, and I understand Kevin can't be boxed in to a specific style or he will get beaten down in the press for it....but I wish the new material was at least more of a smoother progression from that style. The material we've heard from Currents have many elements of things that I would never associate with the Tame Impala style. "Disciples" is easily my favorite - I really like the melody and the brevity actually probably works for it in this instance. The other ones seem to go in a Mark Ronson direction - who needs more of that right now?
94  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Anyone else configured their own Life Suite ... on: April 15, 2015, 05:34:15 PM
Here's what I came up with:

This Beautiful Day
Shelter
Tell Me Why
Sail Away
I'm Feeling Sad
Somewhere Quiet
Strange World

The Right Time
Whatever Happened
One Kind Of Love
From There To Back Again
Pacific Coast Highway
Summer's Gone
The Last Song

*I faded Strange World and Summer's Gone ever-so-slightly.
95  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Your Favorite Moments From No Pier Pressure on: April 13, 2015, 08:53:27 AM
This Beautiful Day - "if we could find a way/if you would only stay" - love his falsetto.

Whatever Happened - all of it!

On The Island - the very short wall-of-Zooeys in the break.

Guess You Had To Be There - Brian's chorus, absolute pop perfection, making me wish there was a version with him singing the entire song!

Somewhere Quiet - love how the vocal melody is a translation of the guitar in the instrumental. Great tight 60s snare sound.

I'm Feeling Sad - "and it's all right in front of me/I was too blind but now I see/that it's so hard to be alone".

Tell Me Why - I think this track is criminally underrated. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the first verse lyrics. So simple but they describe a breakup that you know should be happening and is for the best...even though you want to cling on.

"Kind of funny but mostly sad
Kinda good but mostly bad
I really miss that thing we had
Until you went away".

This is one of the best tracks on the album. Perfection. Also, note the slightly buried harpsichord line.

Sail Away - Brian's "drink my water from a shell that I find".

One Kind Of Love - all of it. Brian's wordless backing single lines in the break.

Saturday Night - this is the one collab I think really works. "You've got me seeing a little bit clearer/now we're playing our music too loud".

Last Song - of course, the bombastic ending and Brian's "there's never enough time for the ones that you love".

Plenty of good moments on this album.
96  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: One Kind Of Love Appreciation Thread on: April 09, 2015, 09:34:28 AM
This is a great song. I like the transition from single to multi tracked vocals. He's singing quite high here and it sounds pretty natural. I like that when the vocals are multi tracked, they are split down the middle instead of the standard Thomas left-middle-right trick. One of the best ones on the new album. Aside from Macca, it reminds me of a certain Elton John song that I can't quite put my finger on.
97  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: No Pier Pressure (board member reviews) on: April 09, 2015, 09:32:05 AM
The best stuff on this album (Whatever Happened, Tell Me Why, One Kind of Love, Last Song) rank with the best of his solo career.
98  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Soundstage special premieres tonight! (for NY and NJ viewers) on: April 06, 2015, 09:46:52 AM
The listing I see on my guide only slots a half an hour for the program (and has it listed as "Brian Wilson & Friends"). Hopefully it's just an error and not a chopped version of the special.
99  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: No Pier Pressure (board member reviews) on: April 03, 2015, 06:27:21 AM
Joe Thomas is easily the worst person to ever be involved with Brian Wilson.

Really? Really?
100  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: LISTEN TO THE LAST SONG & ON THE ISLAND!! BBC RADIO on: March 29, 2015, 04:14:28 PM
Last Song made me (and continues to make me) emotional as the song intensifies. I have never been one for Joe Thomas' production style, but it doesn't impede the song here one bit. I can understand complaints about Runaway Dancer...guests vocals on a Brian album...other stuff...but this? Listen again. It's beautiful, it's magnificent, it's wonderful, it's Brian giving his listeners exactly what they have been clamoring for. Listen again - it's Brian giving his heart to you the only way he knows how. There is so much love for this man and his music, his soul and his being on this board. Listen again, dammit.
