2901  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Albums with a Pet Sounds vibe? on: March 09, 2012, 08:55:55 AM
Not an album, but this song is ridiculously inspired by the album Pet Sounds:

You Can Do Better Than Me - Death Cab For Cutie

This is exactly the sound I am looking for. Thanks!

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the suggestions.I have many of the mentioned albums. While Odessey and Oracle and Begin (among others) are fantastic records, I was hoping to get some suggestions that are more similar to Splitsville's "Pet Soul" (edit - I see it was mentioned above).

Looking for suggestions for albums with a similar sound to Pet Sounds. Doesn't matter if it's current or older. The more obscure, the better Grin
Thanks in advance!

Got my tickets in the Loge area ($45 + fees) to see the guys in (yikes!) Camden, NJ. I'm so psyched.

I dig it - but would love to hear it in better quality (if possible). It sounds like a low bit-rate mp3.

Try downloading the .wav here:

Fantastic - Thanks!

2911  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Weakest Song On Pet Sounds/Smile? on: February 27, 2012, 02:48:08 PM
The best version of Here Today is by Bobby Vee - Liberty Records, 1966. Wrecking Crew are on it as well.

The only place online I could find it (no youtube), is on this blog, transferred from a noisy 45. It sounds much better in Stereo.

Does a stereo mix exist for You're Welcome anywhere else besides the vinyl LP? I have it of course, but can't get a transfer I am pleased with.

Not lame! Welcome - I just started posting recently myself and I am 2 years younger than you.

Does anyone know ticket prices and sale dates for Bethlehem, PA (5/17/12)?

I haven't listened to it all yet - only on the second track, but your version of Worms is INCREDIBLE.

So The Beach Boys get to do a two minute Good Vibrations yet Paul Mccartney get's to do a cheesy love song and come back later with a totally random Beatles set..

I don't get it

He's Paul McCartney.

SMiLE (the first 19 or 20 tracks from disc 1). Or Friends.
2920  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: SMiLE A.D. v3.0: A Vocal Mix. on: January 23, 2012, 12:15:45 PM
A couple of notes for you -

THANK YOU so much for your work, firstly!

I think the magic was in the Stereo SMiLE (specifically the "fixed 2.0" and "Look" mixes), those offered something so unique to the fans here. I would love it if you returned to doing stereo mixes if there is a 4.0

Contrary to some other posters above, I adore what you did with Holidays!!!! Especially the way you modulated the "Worms" vocals into it. Fantastic job on that one.
2921  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Smile Sessions MONO - a disaster for the Beach Boys' Legacy on: January 23, 2012, 11:30:27 AM
I didn't read any responses to the original post, but I am also 20 years old, and that's just not correct. Let's be honest, modern day stereo is almost mono. Seperation is really, really narrow. Wide stereo of the 60s is a thing of the past. SMiLE in mono is actually closer to the format most young people are listening to.

In addition to that fact, I think most people hearing this material for the first time are drawn to the MUSIC, not the format the music is in.

I myself like Mono and Stereo for a variety of different reasons. There are bad mono mixes and there are bad stereo mixes.  The SMiLE Sessions (Disc 1) sounds really clean, and is in fantastic quality. The fact that we can all own this material in such a nifty package is a joy. Just enjoy it.
