And It's Over is very nice. Have you given any thought of double tracking your vocals and using reverb/echo/delay on them?

I might have asked the Mike Love question.  Grin

Is anyone here really believing Mike actually said a word of this?

Listen to the samples more than once - and they start to sound better and better:

Highlights:

What Ever Happened
Saturday Night On Hollywood Blvd - can't believe how good the sample sounds - I am not a fun. fan at all - but he sings this perfectly - Brian did a great job on guiding him.
Tell Me Why
Sail Away - Al and Brian!!!
One Kind Of Love - Brian singing quite high here.

The chorus of Guess You Had To Be There (which seems to be all the sample is) is pretty great, but not sure how I'll like the parts Brian isn't featured on.  Grin

What's up with the synth horns and general production on Don't Worry?
106  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What did we learn at the Q&A? on: January 26, 2015, 02:09:32 PM
It makes me sick that anyone is even complaining about ANYTHING.

We sit here and browse/read/post/comment about Brian Wilson. This is what we do. On a constant basis. It's what we live for.

The man, THE MAN, the one we obsess over on a daily....hell, hourly, secondly basis, comes to a non-official fan board to ACTIVELY ENGAGE us and answer some questions. He owes us nothing, we owe him everything. Be thankful.

Another recommendation would be the two albums New York pop songwriters Pete Anders and Vini Poncia issued in 66 and 67 as the Tradewinds and the Innocense.

They honed their craft writing a bunch of Brill Building pop, including collaborating with Phil Spector on some great Ronettes / Darlene Love songs. When they struck out on their own after their time with Spector they really came into their own. Those two albums are really top notch! Pete Anders was one hell of a singer.

Here's a pseudo-psychadelic song from the first of the two:

And then there's 'Small Town Bringdown, - possibly my favorite song of theirs.

I like them, too. I'd recommend this:

Also, while not exclusively Sunshine Pop, I think you would enjoy the Lost Jukebox series. 200+ volumes of pop obscurities from 1964-1972. You can find more information with a simple google search.

If the thread continues in the same fashion it has been, he's probably not coming back. Cool it, guys.

Hi Brian!

Your music has impacted and changed my life in ways no other music can. I love you, we all love you. Thank you.

I like this a lot! I love the harmonies, it's got a very relaxing vibe. Good work!

It's neat that these things keep popping out of nowhere. As far as the song structure and vocals go, it's my favorite of the collabs I've heard. Not a fan of the production/synthy drum beat, though. I'd love to hear it stripped down - the melody kind of reminds me of John Lennon's "Woman".
112  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: The Yellow Balloon on: December 14, 2014, 05:42:16 PM
I found (and still find) this album to be a weaker than others in it's category (I think it might have something to do with the lack of strong vocals and strong songwriting), but it does warrant repeated listens - it gets better when you know the songs. This type of sound should have been what the BBs were doing in 1967, albeit with stronger voices (a given) and more substance. They might have never fallen off the radar if they'd made some studio sunshine pop instead of Smiley Smile and the lo-fi Wild Honey.

Is there a breakdown of what's new..... i.e what hasn't been sourced from previous releases? Has any of this been lifted from SOT? The Beatles copyright one from last year was pretty much exclusively bootleg copies. Anything copied over from "dubious releases" here or are these all fresh transfers?
114  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The \ on: November 24, 2014, 03:28:59 PM
It's a nice song, maybe a bit too naive for the "artistic Beach Boys" crowd. Lyrically, it must have been influenced by "I'm So Young".
115  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike Love memoir due 2016 on: November 19, 2014, 04:21:59 PM
i gave the Beatles the idea to use the girls from all the countries in Back In The USSR.
cousin Brian stayed in his room.
Mike sings the praises of Uncle Jesse.
116  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike Love memoir due 2016 on: November 19, 2014, 04:20:24 PM
Drinking game. A shot every time:

the phrase "my cousin and i" is used.
Mike alludes to Dennis being a man whore.
the word "positivity".
The Wilsons were into drugs, i wasn't.

continue...

Well, however old it is, Brian sounds really good. I like the depth of the production as well.
118  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike and Bruce Tour 2014 on: November 10, 2014, 02:16:35 PM
I saw their Christmas show last year. 40 songs with a 6 song Christmas set in the second act. Bruce sang "White Christmas", I believe. It wasn't overlong and it didn't seem like they had to drop much to add these songs in (we still got "Disney Girls", "Warmth of The Sun", "Wild Honey" etc). I enjoyed myself.

120  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Bruce....married or divorced? on: November 02, 2014, 04:11:50 PM
Someone asked Bruce about his marital status on the Britian board a few days ago. He basicly said " let's stick to discussing the music." He wouldn't answer the question.

Is he still married to Harriet or not?

Would you want someone discussing your marital status on a public online forum that you read?

This article is all over the place. I'd be super confused if this was my first serious introduction to The Beach Boys catalog.

I thought Brian sounded and looked cool. I think the double-tracking was nice. And the last shot gave me goosebumps.
123  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: *Merged* Brian Wilson current album thread on: October 05, 2014, 08:35:13 PM
I wish it was the 60s - he'd have four new albums out since the time he started recording this one  Grin

Who are the backup vocalists on Wouldn't it be nice to live again? I keep hearing Blondie but he hadn't joined yet. That was Carl, right?

Definitely Brian and Carl.

I hear Brian on the "oohs", but the final tag with the "yeahs"....pretty sure that's two Carls. And as mentioned, Mike on "do you think we can live again".

Hmm. "Special Love" was the reported title of the Frank Ocean/BW collab.
