I'm reading (and thoroughly enjoying) Ass's heroic transcription of Hamstring Hero et al.'s "wild one-word story".
I thought it was sheer poppycock myself. And btw, their names are Judd & Swedish Frog, if you don't recognize them. I have to tell you this so you know. Wasn't it Dudd? I do recognize them, but thanks anyway. Yes, it was poppycock----of the most superior kind. I think it's good----and often hilarious. In fact I'm linking it to "my" MB, where we have our own (BB-related) multi-authored epic, salvaged from the Capitol Board when it all went pear-shaped over there.

Agreed, with everything you say. My point is that "Boogie Woodie" doesn't sound remotely like "Flight of the Bumble Bee"! ("Bumble Boogie" is a different matter.) Why did someone decide it did? Or does it resemble some other Rimsky piece? It looks suspiciously like cold feet to me, after the Berry business. Olmec Donald is pointing out that Flight of the Bumble Bee was public domain, so nobody would have had any grounds for a lawsuit. Okay, fair play. It's the fact that R-K was credited at all that confuses me. That said, the left-hand piano part does sound a bit like a bee on amphetamines. OK, I now understand your confusion. The left hand is playing octaves in a light shuffle boogie rhythm, but it's a static part and not following any boogie woogie pattern. Boogie Woodie's melodic piano part is basically the main piano figure in Boogie Woogie aka Pinetop's Boogie Woogie written and first recorded by Pinetop Smith in 1928 and later given the big band treatment by Tommy Dorsey in 1938. Listen to TD version at :38 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJgJdv81vhIAs for Boogie Woodie's organ melody, I can't say if that has roots in any other song. So, it's possible Murry/Brian may have wanted to steer people away from associating the melody with the Pinetop's Boogie Woogie by claiming it was an arrangement based on a public domain work. But, which work? It's not Flight Of The Bumblebee. It was Andrew (or Tobler perhaps?) who said in the Little Blue Book about "Boogie Woodie" that "FOTB" was "Somewhere in here". I can't for the life of me imagine what other work by Rimsky it could be. The mystery deepens...

I have a hard time understanding all the hate around here for SDT, yet the same folks seem to have no problem with the wretched "Don't Go Near the Water", especially as an opening track. SDT is by no means a great song, but I find it pretty harmless for the most part. I certainly wouldn't want it as an opener, but I could tolerate it over DGNtW, which has got to be one of the BB's biggest downers. I remember the first time I listened to the Surfs Up album several years ago, and I'm glad I listened to a few more cuts after DGNtW, because initially I was nearly done with the album part way into that song.
Why? Don't Go Near the Water sounds like classic BB to me, in fact I think it's so catchy it could be a Brian song. Great backing track too! It's a bit unnerving hearing it immediately after "Cool Cool Water" on the twofer! "DGNTW" is a good example of a BB cut that has grown on me. And now i couldn't live without it. :=)

Ran 17.8 k tonight. Did not record my time though, will do that next week. Very cool! I used to run in a semi-serious capacity but it's my prospective son-in-law who's the runner in the family these days. He ran his third local marathon this year and came within the first 200, beating his previous time by 45 minutes! Wearing shoes similar to the ones below:
