OK, this is a UK thread, but I wonder what the situation is like in other European countries...

Rocker, do you know if German cinemas are planning to show it?

I am listening to this. A lot.

What is "this", if I may ask? I don't recognize the cover...

It is To Pimp a Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar.

OK. Thanks. :=)

I misspelled it "Bar Keys" lol shows how much I know about it.  Lassssst Niiiiighhhttt

Bar-Kays is a logical mistake to make. The instrumental group of that name were Otis's backing group at the time of the plane crash, in which four of the original six perished.

Is that the Bar Kays playing in the background?  I like it.... but the Stones version I still like better.

I reckon it's The Memphis Horns (formely the Mar-Keys):

Lucky UK. As for the Low Countries.... It seems... Well, this is the sentence in Dutch, as I found it:

De film draait niet in de nederlandse of Belgische bioscopen

Which when translated literally says, "The film is not being shown
in Dutch and Belgian cinemas". It would be nice to believe they mean
"not at the moment" but I'm rather afraid that's not what they mean. :=(

I'm not sure the rest of the band loves that album. I know Bruce has criticized the album art more than a few times and in the 2nd "Brian Wilson Songwriter" DVDs, he dismisses the album as a whole.

It's strange how he dismisses Friends while Sunflower is his favorite. These two albums aren't THAT different after all.

To my mind they are. If they were paintings, I'd say Friends was done in watercolours (or pastels) and Sunflower in oils (no pun intended).

My local record-lending library has a 1988 CD version (it only just occurred to me to check there!). Can't wait to borrow it...

How about the two palindromic years? Both contain events that brought Brian and the Boys back into my life:

1991----Wouldn't It Be Nice: My Own Story published
2002----Party at the Palace televised

Bruce looks like he's holding in a massive load that just that second began to leak out of his puckered cheeks

Nothing against Bruce but I hope I'm not the only poster who laughed out loud when they read this. Grin
6040  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Vocal double tracking / sync mistakes on: July 05, 2015, 09:57:50 AM
This kind of stuff is something i love about BB recordings. These "mistakes" add a cool human element to the recordings that make them all that much more interesting and enjoyable to listen to.

I couldn't agree more, CM.

In the version of "Kiss Me Baby" on the Warmth of the Sun comp and maybe elsewhere, the powers that be saw fit to remove one of Mike's whoa's (during the "sync mistake" the third and last time round) and emasculated the song in the process. What makes it even more inexcusable is that they removed the wrong whoa! The previous two (in sync) occur before the beat, but now the third one sits lamely on the beat, destroying the whole effect.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if at the time Brian was taken with this misstep and even felt it added something special to the song.

I would have called the film Love & Cello and focused on Mike's gift for the hook and the triplets VDP is said to have fathered.

 LOL

Or Cello & Mercy, lol.

Not crazy about the guest artist format again. I'd say leave out the fancy stuff this time. Just sing some good old sh*t-kicking rock'n'roll, Brian. Lots of slap bass and echo. Grin

I've always liked their songs.  Never understood why I Live For the Sun didn't chart higher than it did.

i could never understand that either. The pirate stations in the UK played it all the time. Can't remember ever hearing "Andrea" though...
