Thanks a lot guys. I'll be sure, in the near future to check out some of the books you guys mentioned, especially Desper's book (since those two albums kick ass) and the new one coming out (Rise, Fall & Redemption! --- love that that title!)

Brian has a 5 o clock shadow because Photoshop was invented :D

I'll check out the book reviews section.

Cheers!

I just finished reading Brian Wilson's autobio WOULDN'T IT BE NICE.

I enjoyed it. Mind you, I haven't read a lot of Beach Boys books (see beginning of thread for list). My question is... what happens after the events the book ends on? According to the book, looks like Landy and Brian part ways on a good note; but this is back in '91. What happened after?

And, someone (I forget who) was bad-mouthing the book (probably rightly so - again, I'm not educated on the facts yet). I remember this person saying that Brian Wilson was using sources from current books to tell his own "true" story. Also, re-living his life through friends, etc.... with the addition of a People Magazine writer, the book becomes part of the Brian Wilson fantasy.

Still, the book is well-written, and one of the best times I've had reading any book.

Bonus Question: Anyone know the BB's (and other family/friends) reaction to Brian Wilson's book when it came out? Any lawsuits?

Once again, and not the last, but hanks in advance, guys.

Not only that, but whose idea was it to call it "Smiley Smile"? Why not a totally new name?

Warmth of the sun. Heck, that song is good for anything.

Thanks for the info, guys.

Does anyone have a decent image of the various front and back cover of these SMiLE albums? And, how much are they worth?

One of the Superman films (I think III) has a scene with some BB tune playing (that, I forgot, too).

Big help I am :D

I love how Good Vibrations was put to use in VANILLA SKY. Classic!

Screw you guys. I'm looking back with Love.

That's crazy! Why the heck didn't he want to be on the cover?

Strange. I mean, i know he didn't care about limelight... but a photo on a album cover never hurt anyone.

:/

135  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: "Wild Honey" The Song! on: February 12, 2006, 10:25:02 PM
WILD HONEY title track is what turned me on to The Beach Boys. Great fucking song!

Carl sings his ass off on it!
136  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Question about SMiLE LP jackets (ones that got printed) on: February 12, 2006, 10:20:59 PM
What's the deal with the printed (but never used) album jackets. The back has all the Beach Boys (minus Brian!?) in their normal pin-striped button shirts  (well, actually more like cross-hatch shirts... but you get my point. Didn't they get past this look 'ie Pet Sounds').

So, you mean to tell me Brian didn't want his photo to appear on this album? I find this strange considering he put his heart and soul into it (just like Pet Sounds).

What year were the SMiLE jackets printed out?

Yes. Great pictures. Thanks for posting.

Great pics!!!

(even that Carly Simon one was cool). :D

Stephen W. Desper, thanks for clearing that up. :D

I like it when I come across band photos (w/Brian) between 1967 an 1975.

A little on the printed, but never used, ORIGINAL ''SMILE'' ALBUM:

What's the deal with John Stamos and The Beach Boys (not to mention full house) partnership?

That Kokomo video is f'ed up. There are parts where Mike Love and John Stamos give each other the eye (nice choice of editing).

Brian Wilson, on Full House? WTF?

141  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Derek Taylor: SMiLEFINGER (very interesting) on: February 11, 2006, 12:20:27 AM
Yeah, man. This was extra special to me, especially, being a hardcore Bond, Beatles and Beach Boys junkie. When I found this link I felt just like Robert De Niro during that opening scene in Once Upon A Time In America.

If it was true, I'd spend my life savings just to view a trailer of it!

:D

Yeah, "human" pretty much sums it up.

Great answers, guys/gals. Interesting.

:D

Mike Love always looks so lost trying to think of something to do when he's not singing the lead.. they should've at least given him a tambourine or something..

LOL! Exactly.

I like what he does with his fist in the Sloop John B promo (when "Got into a fight" is sung, he raises his fists).

145  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Link to some rare BB video streams... on: February 09, 2006, 10:51:18 PM
Actually, I was trying to find a cover of John Stamos doing Dennis Wilson's FOREVER. :D

(shhhh!)
146  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Electronic music.. help on: February 09, 2006, 10:49:54 PM
And don't forget some of them "high tech" Mount Vernon and Fairway songs. :D

147  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike Love's songwriting on: February 09, 2006, 10:13:04 PM
As far as I know, he usually just came up with some good hooks (suggesting them as Brian played demos).

148  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Link to some rare BB video streams... on: February 09, 2006, 10:10:51 PM
The following link has some BB music videos as seen in some documentaries; however, if you scroll to the bottom, you'll see some RARE gems.

(Sorry if you guys knew about this. I sure as heck didn't!)

149  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys Rare Pictures (picture heavy, sorry) on: February 09, 2006, 07:28:00 AM
amosario, that's a cool pic of Brian in your avatar. Do you have a bigger version of it? And, where is it from? I never seen it before.

150  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / In a sentence, what is your opinion on Dr. Landy? on: February 09, 2006, 06:49:20 AM
I'd write my own, but I don't feel that I'm educated enough. I think I need to read more books or something.

For you folks who don't like to type and be descriptive, just type out a sentence. A word. Anything. If you have a lot to type, go for it.

I'm just trying to get more educated about this subject (I know, it's the music that matters... but heck... the drama is just as good as the music!). It would also be interesting to hear all the different opinions.

Thanks again, in advance!
