Interesting read. I think the writer is as lost as Brian was (in those days). Enjoy.

http://www.jesus-is-savior.com/Evils%20in%20America/Rock-n-Roll/beach_boys.htm

P.S. Sorry I haven't been around (been very busy since I've moved), but I lurk here and there for sure! =)

(like any of you guys care! LOL)

Oh yeah, anyone know where I can get Nick Kent's FULL "Dark Stuff" Article on Brian Wilson/Beach Boys? I went to two bookstores to try and look for it (with no luck), so, I tried. I just don't want to order it online. Thanks in advance!

Anyone know the full line up of songs? And, what tracks, if any, does Brian sing lead on?

I came across a couple of tracks from this concert... sounds groovy! :D Love the keyboard work.

More than can be said for Leaf.  I'm still holding out to find one of those for a decent price.

I have one for sale -- msg me if interested. Tell me your budget.

I've been trying to find a copy for entertainments sake.

Got mine used of amazon.com for like $12 total.

it was a good read and I wasn't even aware of the ghostwriting and "lies" until after. Still, a great 'n sad time while reading it. I like some of the early 1980's rare photos that I'm sure the Beach Boy estates wants to keep hidden forever (a la '77 Elvis)... Brian was a big wreck to look at.

Landy, love him or hate him, saved his life. I think there's more reason to appreciate Landy than hate him.

7/10

So when did ABC show the video?  I totally missed it if they did.

Same her. Flew right past me.

And this must be a vintage edit of "Hello Goodbye" one of the original promos. What was shown on Anthology is a new edit of the footage.

Cool. Watching it now. Another one I've never seen.

Not only that, but the hair styles and clothes are different, too. Lennon ain't wearing that purple let it be shirt.
109  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / RARE Beatles footage (1968 - NOT let it be sessions) on: February 26, 2006, 11:40:15 AM
I've seen lots of Beatles stuff (documentaries, boots, etc.) but I have never came across these clips.

This one is during/after the 1968 White Album/Hey Jude sessions. All the boys happily at work (esp. Lennon/McCartney). Some interaction between Harrison and Martin. Great stuff. Where did it come from? And no, this ain't LET IT BE sessions.

Check it out for yourself:

This next clip is the 'Hey Bulldog' video. NO, not the one with Lady Madonna playing over the filmed session as seen in the original promo and Anthology series! This is the actual 'Hey Bulldog' video with scenes I haven't seen before (so this not some fan edit -- IF IT IS, I'm fucking impressed with where he got the additional footage, than anything else). But it's not. It's the deal. ABC logo? (beats me)

Don't believe me, click here!

Try typing some keywords of your fav bands (try by name, too -- like, just Brian Wilson, etc.) at youtube.com -- you'll get some crazy stuff.

Is this book a hard find? How much can I get a copy for?

The cover looks like the sister of Leaf's book.

It's not on topic. I'm breaking the rules.

Sue me.

No, seriously, I only posted it because a lot of people in this forum could be Beatles fans, too. And, it's really good footage, too!

Check 'em out! I haven't seen it anywhere!

Check this out... here is a beatles clip I've never seen before. Damn, the rare stuff you found on youtube.com.

Even shows George Martin working with all four of them on an early version of HEY JUDE. Amazing.

Did you find it?  Can anyone point me to AUDIO of Mike's infamous RnR Hall Of Fame speech?  I've found transcripts of the text, but I'd like to hear it.  Can someone help me out?

THANX!

Nope. No luck.

115  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Has anybody ever seen this footage? on: February 25, 2006, 08:36:47 AM

Yeah. Sounds artificial and a product of now trying to replicate the SMiLE sound.

Who the heck they tryin' to fool?

Thanks for posting this, it's new to me, too! :D

And it was Howard Stern who played the Mike Love Hall Of Fame speech/debacle literally hundreds of times through the years - he'd start off every show at 6am by playing a reel of various highlights and favorite clips before starting the show live, and Mike Love's HOF speech was always on there. I'll bet more people heard it there than anywhere else. If I'm remembering correctly, he's also had Carnie Wilson on the show before, with a good interview.

Any links to it?

(I'll do a google search)

I was gonna make AL Clint Eastwood (with poncho)... but heck, Al is a double parody, as is!

Man, I tell ya, in all seriousness, I would love to write Al's biography.  He's my favourite Beach Boys and I have a feeling he's got a compelling story to tell.

I bet. And why hasn't Mike Love ever stepped up? (wrote a book)

I mean, these days, all you gotta do is talk while you eat steaks. Everyone else does the typing and listening.

Bruce Johnston looks like Gilligan.

123  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Does Smile tell a story? on: February 18, 2006, 10:04:27 PM
If SMiLE "tells" a story, then so does Abbey Road.

A story? No way.  Not to me. I guess it depends. I look at it as a pack of great songs created by a great musician.

earcandy -

Thanks for the info. What about the rest of the book? Does it say anything new about its main subject? Is it work picking up?
125  Smiley Smile Stuff / Book Reviews / Re: Catch a Wave : The Rise, Fall, and Redemption of the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson on: February 17, 2006, 06:53:24 PM
PAC,

I know you don't want to give too much away about your book's contents, but just a question...

Does Mike or Al comment on Brian's SMiLE tour?

Can't wait for the book! Great title, btw. Really strong.
