heavens, the "story" is the one in the book; likely the version cobbled together in the interview news item (unless there is video) ran into pronoun trouble.
not pronoun trouble, Mike tells a different story in the interview. here is the quote: But the tour later unraveled, in part because Love resented interference from Melinda Wilson, Brian’s wife.
“Yeah. She once told me that ‘Brian’s not your partner. I’m your f****ng partner.’ That’s what she said,” Love said. she actually never said that if we are to believe the passage in the book, which states: a) Melinda was speaking to Jackie, not to Mike b) Melinda said that SHE was Brian's partner, not Mike c) Melinda said that she was BRIAN'S partner, not Mike's partner in the interview, Mike accuses Melinda of something that apparently never happened if he is referencing his book.

just to be clear to certain forum members (ahem): THIS thread is about ONE SPECIFIC STATEMENT that Mike just made during a CBS interview which seems to conflict with what he wrote in his book and with what may have actually occurred. THIS thread is not about Mike's book specifically, or Carl's last days on the tour, or Landy's actions, or even the length of Mike's turds

Am I the only one who thinks it's a really big issue that Mike is telling a very different story about an event that is in the book that has just been published and that he's currently promoting?
it's a huge difference... if she A) told Jackie, "I'm his (Brian's) f*cking partner" or if she B) told Mike, "I'm your (Mike's) f*cking partner." we still don't know which, even though certain forum members (one in particular) had the opportunity to set the discussion straight but chose to derail the thread instead while accusing OTHERS of going off on a tangent. and which is one of several reasons I stopped engaging with certain forum members (one in particular) some time ago. it certainly seems like Mike tells story A in his book, but tells story B in the CBS interview. if that is the case, Mike is not only misquoting his own book but also misrepresenting what actually happened and slandering Melinda in the process. and if THAT is the case, then perhaps we've not heard the last of this and hopefully Melinda will offer her version of events. maybe she can even sue Mike for good measure

sadly it appears we have a book by the only Mike there is:
not a man interested in any type of meaningful self-reflection, apologizing for any wrongdoing, or displaying any degree of humility whatsoever.
just the same guy proclaiming his immense contributions to the band's success, extolling his superior lifestyle choices, and bitterly calling out those he feels ripped off or slighted by.
what a loathsome, ungrateful, and utterly self-centered human. y'all enjoy the book

more reprehensible and indefensible statements coming from Mike. is anyone surprised? and did anyone catch this blurb yet: "On one of our youthful fishing trips, Dennis and I got talking about the surfing craze and why it made sense to do a surfing song."

saw the show in Asheville last night. Brian and the band got a great reception and did a fantastic performance. been avoiding this thread to keep from spoiling any possible surprises this tour, so I was indeed surprised by the "River Deep" intro to CA Girls not to mention Funky Pretty! Wake the World and California were also great treats to hear. I wasn't expecting Billy to be in the band so that was very cool too. Matt sounded really great... the crowd loved him. Brian telling folks to "please be seated" 2 or 3 times over the course of the show was this tour's crack-up moment. Blondie was feeling great and it showed, I don't think too many in the crowd were expecting his presence at all especially when he cranked up and rocked out... I was loving every second of it. and what can you say about Al that hasn't already been said... he was solid as ever, his voice is the fountain of youth, and he dressed the part in his white suit and matching guitar. I may have shouted out "Keep it Clean!" at one point, can't quite recall. Brian wasn't nearly as animated or talkative as last summer's tour, but I like his new vocal approach on some of the songs... almost talking his way through verses at times and playing with the timing, similar to Willie Nelson or Bob Dylan. really seems to suit him at his age and it's great to hear him trying something new. picked up a poster and tour booklet, which features several outtakes from the front and back cover shoots I'd never seen before. the $100 bronze bust of Brian was a cool thing I'd love to own, but I had to pass.

never mind... found it. it's on the Vocal Element boot. god Mike comes across as such a humorless ass. no spontaneity, no wit, no clue. it's kind of painful to listen to. Taylor clearly can't stand him (and vice versa) but it's fun to hear Mike become the butt of the joke for once.

4 or 5 takes... wish we could hear them all.
Brian's falsetto at the end is absolutely soaring. heartbreaking but magnificent. the fact that he changed the key and slightly changed the chords/arrangement shows the song was still important to him. so glad it was found and released. makes you wonder what else might be hiding at the end of other reels...?

a quirky classic if ever there was one. it's a bit like the Today album, with upbeat tunes on side A and ballads on side B. there's definitely a contingent of BW/BB fans who are put off or embarrassed by Brian's "quirkier" stuff, like I'd Love Just Once to See You, When a Man Needs a Woman, even Little Pad... while others of us find it to be Brian at his most childlike and charming, not to mention hilarious. I definitely fall in the latter group and Love You is most certainly the best example of that aspect of Brian... and the reason why so many of us either love Love You with a passion or dislike it with a vengeance. it's just so f*cking BRIAN.

a catchy tune, but one I don't particularly care for.
Mike Love's contribution to the composition is rather small, just the "Aruba, Jamaica..." bit I believe, which was added to an otherwise finished song by John Phillips. but that doesn't stop Mike from basically claiming the song as his own and putting it on a pedestal with Good Vibrations and other Beach Boy classics that were actually written by Beach Boys.
to each their own. in my opinion, it's kind of an anti-Beach Boys song since Brian had no participation in its creation and it wouldn't have been nearly as successful without being attached to a Tom Cruise blockbuster. I don't think it holds up to repeated listens either, unlike the band's best work.

didn't Reilley claim that Bruce disagreed with and talked sh*t about the Wilsons?
not surprising, since he continues doing it to this day.
Where has he continued doing it to this day, he seems very complimentary of all three Wilson brothers in interviews and shows I've been to. Bruce is a loose cannon. perhaps a bipolar or split personality with a lifelong sense of entitlement. some fans and interviewers have pleasant interactions with him, while others report some of the rudest most awkward encounters of their lives. one fan describes a possibly inebriated Bruce in a hotel after a show, declaring the Beach Boys were a better band without Carl. and he's most certainly made disparaging remarks about Brian in recent years. here's just one example: http://www.tcpalm.com/entertainment/beach-boy-bruce-johnston-you-cant-tell-me-aging-kills-your-spirit-ep-404001882-332209772.htmlWhat's the hotel story? Also I'm not sure that that article shows Bruce disparaging Brian but rather just not thinking too clearly about his wording, he has been a big supporter of Brian in interviews before... sorry, there's no positive way to spin this comment about Brian's 21st century output: I think as an exercise in keeping him occupied, it's interesting. Here's a guy that should have become John Williams, if you think about it. He should have many Academy Awards for scores he could have written. A lot of things could have happened, but they didn't. And then they dust him off and roll him back out.
it's the most backhanded f***ed up thing to say about a man you supposedly admire. screw you BJ, you sicken me.
