I like it - could have been a LOT worse. BW surrounded by a bunch of Disney characters ?
That would of been just plain weird. BW ,the adult/child surrounded by disney characters. Cheesy

...while sporting his trademark "deer in the headlights" facial expression of course.
Or that odd forced smile he has sometimes.

Mike Love is still wanting to write 'fun in the sun' songs as he did in his early 20s, almost 50 years later? Stop the presses!
Well I wanted let the board know about the lovester's never changing ideas about song-writing. Grin

"I have a few ideas in my head," Love said. "A couple of them are more retro, as in '64- or '65-type sounding stuff, like 'Fun, Fun, Fun' and 'California Girls.' But then my cousin Brian's ideas have a bit more of the 'Pet Sounds' kind of vibe to the music. It'll be a combination of the different musical aspects of the Beach Boys."

At the moment its Busy Doin` Nothin`. Last Saturday night it was All I Want To Do. At one time it was the infamous line from IJWMFTF, "They say I got brains but they ain`t doin` me no good"(Growing up I was always hearing people tell me how smart I was)...Hell, I could somewhat relate to at least half the songs on PS when I first heard it around age 19-20.
Totally what I feel right now when I listen to that song and album as a 20 year old.
9406  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What Beach Boys Songs Do You Feel Describe Your Life? on: August 17, 2011, 07:33:35 PM
The songs on Pet Sounds and Today!  are close to me because they really relate to my life and are great to listen to when I am in deep thought about my life.

The songs "Rock N Roll High School" and "Rockaway Beach" by The Ramones remind me of early Beach Boys

Thought about that connection the other day when I listened to the 1964 live version of "be true to your school" from the 1993 box set, and thought it sounded almost like the ramones .
9408  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: SMiLE Sessions box set! on: August 17, 2011, 12:20:47 PM
I envy those of you who had to trade tapes and sh*t back in the day to listen to this stuff. I mean, I'm almost glad I didn't have to go through that, but it must've been a worthwhile adventure! Any crazy stories from anyone here about the lengths ya'll would go to get SMiLE boots?

In 1985 I embarked on a cross-city expedition in LA to track down some 'new' Smile tapes... which turned out to be something I'd traded to someone else entirely a year or so previously ! Still, got some Pepper sessions out of it, so not a complete waste. Otherwise, they just came my way. It was simple - someone gave you a tape and said "don't copy it". If you didn't, more came your way: if you did, the vault door closed. I guess my best pre-CD experience was getting into contact with someone who was then working for BRI and who took advantage of the band being out of town over an Independence Day weekend to copy everything he could lay hands on to high quality cassette - man, when I opened those packages and saw the titles on the labels, I had to sit down.
Man, that sounds like the glory days of beach boys fandom, I wish I could try to find tapes of rare material like that. The hunt for rare material  sounds like half the fun with trying to find tapes and bootleg vinyl like that.

Remember when we all heard our first Smile music?

That was awesome!
"Do you like worms" blew my mind first time I listened to it. Cool Guy

Some of you are obviously going to disagree, but my view is that Capitol ,BRI & the Beach Boys "marketing strategies" for this troubled box set project, have mistreated many thousands of The Beach Boys' most loyal fans. If Capitol, BRI, & The Beach Boys hadn't been so secretive, all of the speculation on the internet (over the box set's contents & whether or not the box set will be released) would never have happened.

Phil, every time you think about making a post like this, why not instead go walk the dog, make a cup of tea, shag the missus, whatever. I don't care. But it is getting old, and unless you value scorn and pity from your fellow boardmembers I'd stop parroting the same line, it's not worth your energy.

The only reason i'd entertain for the lack of news is a) Capitol obviously are not finished yet and b) time goes slower on the internet. It feels like an eternity when you check in everyday. We would obsess anyway! And we are. This is the natural way of it. Everything's on track.

The thing is, Phil desperately DOES NOT WANT Smile to be released.  His posts are just his wishful thinking.

I'm being serious.  Some of you may have seen his link a few months ago to some site where he gives us the chance to download the "real" Smile created by ... him.  He makes all kinds of ridiculous statements about how his Smile IS THE SMILE because he's an audio expert, and he followed D Priore's instructions (and Priore, Phil says, got the instructions straight from Brian).  So in Phil's delusional mind, Smile already has been released, by Phil himself.  He's desperate to hang on to that status, even though he's the only one who actually believes in it.
We should compare Phil's mix to the album mix once the box comes out this year.

Can't find t-shirts like this one Brian's wearing anywhere.

You don't want that. It's a pretty dated looking for a t-shirt.  Cool Guy
Even the red one in the shirt pictures I just posted?   Grin

I was joking! T-shirts never go out of style! NEVAR! I quite like the red one. Would wear it.

Would love to stumble across a forgotten storage locker of Brian's full of old clothes....
There is a radio interview from the late 1980s where Brian says he did still have all his old SMiLE era clothing in storage. Still wondering why indie clothing labels have missed the awesome designs worn back in the day.

I`ve always thought Fox`s agenda was pretty loud and clear. Parrot the Republican party line, dismiss moderate centrists as radical communists, and line Rupert Murdoch`s pockets.
Welcome to my world as a moderate centrist dealing with my fox-brainwashed family and extended family.

Dreamies by Bill Holt.
A movie or documentary should be made on that album because Bill Holt's backstory in making it is so amazing.

Thats why Brian was so fond of Norbit, Rasputia reminded him of Carolyn Williams. Grin
