The list of session dates.

Hi,
Back from an extended vacation to notice the site redesign.  There was a ton of really really good information up on the old site (especially  the Mike Vosse Interview scans).  Is any of this stuff still around anywhere?
Thanks.

Does anyone else think of Mr. Smajda when they see brian is god's avatar?

Naturally, and as usual, I'm most anxious to see what the deal is with the channels on the instrumental.

There's a lot of artifacting around the middle-eight, especially with the piano not audible before it fades in. Was that intentional?

Of course not.  It's not perfect by any means.  I'll work more to improve that section, but it's always a bit of a problem.
6  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Who's Idea was it to put Sloop John B on PS--Brian's or Capitol's? on: February 01, 2006, 09:04:40 AM
oh, gotcha.  I'll explain, then.

People never ask "Who put 'I just wasn't made for these times' on Pet Sounds?  Was it Brian, or Capitol?"  because 'I just wasn't made for these times' is considered artistic enough that everyone assumes it must have been Brian, the genius, who put it on the album.

Whenever someone suggests that Capitol insisted "Sloop John B" was put on the album, it usually comes with the insinuation that Brian wouldn't choose to put that song on his masterpiece, Pet Sounds, because it's not artistic enough.  There's no reason Brian wouldn't put the song on the album... so to say that Capitol requested it implies that Brian didn't want it on the album, usually the argument is that the song doesn't fit the mood or the 'story' of the album, or blah blah blah.

... but you already knew all that you just wanted to play innocent.

I seem to remember a quote from Al stating that it was Capitol's decision.

Remember, Brian didn't want "Good Vibrations" on Smile originally, but he included it on the handwritten tracklist because he knew he had to.  I think the same logically might be applicable to "Sloop John B."

A similar process to the isolation of the vocals.  Used the panning on the box set to isolate both, then ran precise FFT filters for the theremin.

Here's an early version.  Thoughts?

I'm actually pretty sure it's take 8, which is a problem, because take 8 isn't in stereo.  So i have a dilemma on my hands...

It sounds to me like the percussion and harmonica are closer to 40% right, which is enough.  The organ and the bass are dead center though.  I'll see I can expand the field a bit.

You're sure take 6 is the released take?

Just wanting to be absolutely sure I'm using all the right material.

Thanks.

Awesome!!

Thank you so much.
Hopefully I'll get a better version up tonight.

This means that everything except the organ/double bass part is in stereo...No one would have a source for that, would they?

In case anyone's interested, I currently have a very rough version uploaded at my webspace.  I wouldn't want to start any trouble with legality issues, so anyone interested can PM me or contact me via AIM and I'll provide the link.

Maybe said track isn't booted?
Definitely a possibility, and it would force me to include that section in rather uninspired stereo (perhaps track panned 20% left, vocals 20% right).  Just trying to tap the well of vast knoweledge that is the Smiley Smile message board.

I checked SOT15, Heroes and Vibrations, the Archaeology, the Box Set, Hawthorne and maybe something else, and I didn't find anything.  I might have missed something, however.  It's not exactly reliable to search for a 30 second fragment in a 3 hour box set in 10 minutes.

Hello.  I am YR2004 from the old forums.  Sorry for not dropping by in a while, I've been busy here at college.  I'm currently working on a stereo mix of Good Vibrations, but have run into a dead end.  I seem to remember somewhere there exists a stereo track of the piano/jew's harp bridge that occurs after the second chorus around 1:45 in the song, but I can't find one.  Does anyone know if one exists?

Thanks,
Mark
