Yay! I can't wait to see it.

Progress on my Beatles list is coming along too.

Any updates on this project yet?

Kudos to anybody that can pull this off for the BBs, especially if we're talking their entire career.

With the Beatles, while there is a ton of great research and reference work still being done, it's undeniably an easier task to catalog the track-by-track contents. It is (almost) entirely in one location, Lewisohn, Barrett, Winn, and others have done a lot of that groundwork, and there are enough latter-day remixes (pre-AI isolations) to help further deduce a lot of what could be on each track. And it spans 7-8 years.

The BBs are obviously a whole other ball of wax.

I'd love for there to actually be a day when we could know what's on the 24 or 48-track tape, and who played what, for like "Chasin' the Sky" or "East Meets West", etc.

Yes, yes, I know, many more folks are interested in the 60s stuff, and 70s, more so than like prying apart the ProTools files for "Summer in Paradise."

I find all of this stuff intensely interesting, though I guess wouldn't rank as my #1 wish specifically a break down of what's on which track of the multi-track tape. I think who played what, in what order, and how the recordings were made (and just *cataloging* all of those recordings in general) is more useful and interesting than specifically knowing that, like, vocals went on Track 7 instead of Track 8.  Obviously, all of this info goes hand in hand, and knowing what's on each track is of course less about knowing which track *number* a thing is on the multitrack, and more knowing which groupings of which instruments and vocals have their own track on those multitracks, which helps indicate recording method, order, etc.
Yeah, the exact order of the tracks, while nice to know, isn't the important part of a list like this. It's more about what was together on each track, like you said. Also what particular instruments were used and by whom, as well as the order of the overdubs / punch-ins. Finding reliable sources for all of that is tricky because sources tend to contradict each other sometimes or are just plain incorrect. My goal is to set the record straight and attempt to figure out the truth. I hope this new BBs project does the same thing.

This project is happening.
Really? That's wonderful to hear. That means I won't have to tackle it myself. haha
I can't wait to see what comes forth from this research.

Hello there. I've been working on a list of all the Beatles multitracks along with instrument and personnel credits for a few years now.

I thought about it and something like this has never really been done for the Beach Boys' music before.
I'm wondering if any of you experts on here would have any interest in collaborating since I'm not nearly as knowledgeable about their music compared to the Beats.

Here's the list, just to give an idea of what I plan on it looking like. For you Beatles fans, maybe you'll learn something new as well: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eCqK22O2V8KfERmRA6UmJQcqZY1lgunr/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=102049026457173386985&rtpof=true&sd=true

Thanks!

There's an alternate single mix of School Day that was also on Ten Years of Harmony.

It delights me to no end listening to these isolated tracks. Particularly with Pet Sounds era backing tracks since so much is revealed on the bass and horn tracks that's normally completely buried or barely even picked up by the mics at all.

I Just Wasn't Made for These Times immediately comes to mind since you can actually hear what the piano's playing. I still can't quite tell with certainty the difference between the piano and harpsichord, though I think I have an idea.

I never even realized the backing track was recorded on 3 track. I'm so used to only hearing the combined single mono track.
Are there any other Pet Sounds era tapes that are notably missing? Not just stuff that was wiped, but actual missing tapes.

Here's a little snippet I put together.
Basically you have the reduced mono backing track of IJWMFTT on the left channel and the corresponding part of the Everly Brother's Power of Love on the right channel.
It seems like only the track with the bass guitar and Hammond organ remained on the tape, whatever clue that holds.
Anyway, this pretty much proves that the weird noise is in fact part of the organ solo.

After listening again, I'm fairly certain he's either saying "I never get" or "You never get" before the "lonely in the night" part.
But the rest is still up for debate.

For that part what I think it's saying is "When you get lonely in the night I come". I think it's "come" not "call".  I think you're combining it with the "All I wanna do" separate vocal part. The overlapping lyrics is one of the reasons it's so hard to hear everything.
I'm not mixing them up. I can clearly hear two voices: One is saying "call" or "come" and the other is singing the "All I wanna do" part like you said.
Anyway, I suppose without hearing the isolated track we'll never know for certain since it's so buried under everything else.
Not to mention that Carl(?) sings it in such a way that it's hard to understand in the first place.
Incidentally Mike is also singing a repeated low "Now all I wanna do" part in the left channel that I noticed for the first time while I was trying to isolate the vocal we're talking about.

Hello everybody. I created an account on here just to answer this question, although I've been a lurker for several years.

The lyric in question, which is panned in the left channel of the stereo mix, from what I can tell is this:

"Whenever I get lonely in the night I call yeah. Baby you know."
