Hey all, Disc One, track 22 (Heroes And Villains Sections: Bonus Track: Stereo) Really amazing to hear it in stereo but I was wondering, does anyone know what the instrument is playing with the tack piano towards the end of the track? Is it a organ of some sort? It comes in at about 5 min 39 seconds into the track.
Sounds like an electric harpsichord.

Otherwise, if someone buys the set expecting Games Two Can Play, H.E.L.P. Is On The Way and I Just Got My Pay to be "great," they're likely to be in for a rude surprise. I'd say it's a rude surprise that someone doesn't like 'em. "Games Two Can Play" is just plain delightful, and HELP is wonderfully off-the-wall! Cheers, Jon Blum I love 'Games Two Can Play'; the chord progression is great!

Be Here Now is the most underrated album of the past 25 years. A crying shame. So much effort went into the making of it, so much subtlety, and the lyrics are on a par with those of Dylan, Cohen, Cale, and even Donne, in places.
Oh f*** no - Eeyore writes lyrics too ? I actually agree, Be here Now is an amazing LP - it's filled with in-your-face catchy tunes. I really never listen to lyrics, so wouldn't know, but in terms of melody it's a winner.

"Fawlty Towers" - we win. Hm. Good try. But the U.S. had Cheers. Unsurpassable. Cheers isn't even the best US sitcom with Kelsey Grammer in it, let alone the best US sitcom, let alone the best sitcom. Fawlty Towers really is pretty unbeatable, however I will concede that Curb Your Enthusiasm is frequently mind-bogglingly hilarious (and greatly benefits from not having one of those annoying 'laughter' tracks that litter US sitcoms, in which the audience members seem to do nothing but whoop and cheer for half an hour). What about Arrested Development? Of course, I am biased. Just look at my profile photo. Yeah, almost on par with Seinfeld IMO. We should discuss season 4 in the sandbox!

I am British and I like both British and American comedy (and music).
Very generally, most of my favourite musicians and comedians are probably American (The Beach Boys, Larry David).
But when American comedy takes an idea from a good British comedy, they normally turn it to sh*t (The Office, The Inbetweeners). The same perhaps cannot be said for when American musicians take ideas from British musicians (Girl Don't Tell Me is pretty good.)
Can't say I agree with you on The Office, I think it really had a good run, though I'll admit that the seasons after Steve Carell quit was not as good. Of course the three seasons of the British Office was pure magic. In terms of liking one over the other, whether it's music or comedy, I think it's a tough call. In terms of music though, I think that the Brits may be in the lead.. The Beatles, Kinks, Small Faces, The Move, Pretty Things, The Zombies, The Idle Race, etc. (but then of course you have the Beach Boys, Jefferson Airplane, and newer bands like of Montreal and The Apples in Stereo that I rate extremely high in my top bands of all time list).

Can we just change the title of this thread to "For AGD and All His Detractors" ...
Bill Murry aside, most Yankees don't do irony, so unfortunately AGD's humour seems to repeatedly shoot over the top of their baseball cap-wearing heads. (For a healthy example of the difference between US and UK humour: the US has terminally unfunny MAD magazine; us Brits - we got this: http://www.viz.co.uk/) Then again, the yanks have Seinfeld and Arrested Development. But then the Brits have Blackadder and The League of gentlemen.. I think we'll call it a tie.

A sizable amount of the Smile set was stuff that fans already had, too. And much of it -- most likely a couple of discs worth -- had been previously released.
Of course, but it was the freakin' official release of the Beach Boys' Smile, decades in the making! For fans of that era, it had more cachet than another career spanning box with the usual suspects. Also, in that case, we had the option of the more reasonably priced two disc edition for people who are on a budget. Y'r right… I've five copies of the 2CD version (I've given a couple away) as my budget's really tight … You guys also had the single disc CD too, John? Yes but I only splashed out on one copy; and a vinyl LP; and the big box; and the 2CD set as a download. I have to watch my budget. check, check, check. Though I didn't buy the 2CD set as a download since I did have the ability to rip my own physical version. :0) Yup… but I couldn't wait for the postman! No such luxury with this set though… times are much harder Hehe, good old impatience- I can relate. Regarding the set, I don't really see the point of pre-ordering - imagine the disappointment when the British 7 disc version is released September 1st.

How many people who bought TSS actually played the vinyl? As someone who is not set up with turntables, I might as well have been buying four pieces of black plastic. Always felt a little ripped off by that myself ...
Actually, I played the vinyl first...starting with the two 45s.
I played the H&V 45, The LP [bar side 4] and the Vega 45. Then the CDs from You're Welcome. I've played the LP many many mnay MANY mroe times than the CD or digital file. And Apparently I have 9 Kokomo's and 48 BARBARA-FLIPPIN'-ANN'S72 here - that includes live- and Brian Wilson releases. 78 if i count covers

It's pretty amusing that we're going to spend over 100 bucks to buy Kokomo for the 60th time just to get a couple of unreleased tracks Realistically that's what we're doing It's pretty amusing that you've bought Kokomo 59 times. Me? I don't own Sounds of Summer, or Warmth of the Sun, or 50 Big Ones, or any other of the greatest hits comps, except for the GV box, the Hallmark CD, and the Walmart 'zine pak. So, WE aren't buying Kokomo or I Get Around or any other song for the 60th time. I will be buying Kokomo for the 4th time, and yeah, MiC ain't cheap, but to ME, it's worth it, just to get all of the stuff that I don't have. And this box has a lot of stuff that I don't have. I hope you understand the difference between 'we' and 'me' now. I'll be buying Kokomo for the 18th time, and you won't hear me complaining about it.

And hey, why no Battle Hymn of the Republic?! While no gem, it's historically significant part of their lore.
Because it's horrible? Let me re-iterate that I'm excited by the MiC tracklist and understand the inclusion of the hits we already have. If it helps get the music heard further afield, and adds to the longevity of the band's legacy, I'm more than happy. Well said, John! Where's the 'like' button when you need it.
