201  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1960's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Smiley Smile on: September 01, 2015, 08:03:52 PM
When I bought it, I had no preconceived ideas about what to expect.  So this was my reaction too.  I couldn't believe what I was hearing and I was quite angry.

Not too long after, it eventually became integral, inspiring and influential.  It's still pretty flippin' weird though!

Yess!!!!!  You captured everything on that song and did it justice.

 Rock!  Very nice!

I honestly didn't hear the guitar!  Sometimes really compressing the crap out of a guitar helps it bust through the mix without getting too loud.
205  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1960's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Smiley Smile on: September 01, 2015, 12:07:22 PM
Like Surfin' Safari -- Smiley Smile is an honest, raw album that could have only happened when it did.  Not necessarily a "product of its time" since that term is usually reserved for things that are merely repeating or echoing the trappings of the day (and often little more).  Smiley Smile is not that at all.  It's totally off the beaten path.  Boldly going where no one has gone before.

It might be the weirdest album ever made.  Dumb and scary, beautiful and corny.  It's low key and kind of tossed off -- and I can't imagine what people must have thought of it when it came out.  If I had a time machine...

Okay I kinda hate this song. But I like the guitars and production. I've figured it out. Mind's made up. That's the ticket.

I didn't know they still made videos!

My family and I live in Australia, we have a great Country as you all know. I absolutely loved travelling to the USA last year, I fell in love with New York and other parts of your wonderful Country. But I have to say, people like Bean Bag scare the living f*** outta me. I have watched you post about gun control, abortion, PP, Obamacare etc, some of you views are frightening.

Sometimes I wonder if he trolling for shock value.

Alex -- It's good to open and discuss issues that have been deemed politically incorrect, "settled" and silenced.  Especially when they're not settled.  If they were truly settled there wouldn't be the spicy conversation.  Our culture, I believe, is getting comfortable "bottling up" the bad, suppressing their thoughts and emotions, and that's scary.

For example... most people have opinions on abortion.  And the outbreak of Planned Parenthood videos are seriously disgusting.  When that disgust is voiced, there's push back, panic and all sorts of fireworks.  So apparently it wasn't settled.  The Supreme Court's arrogant decision on this and on things like Gay Marriage are attempts to shut it down and bottle it up.  Not healthy.  And very much not the idea behind this Country's free principles.

I don't expect to solve these issues or "convert" anybody -- whatever the hell that means.  Not the point.  I don't even necessarily care what the opinions are -- we all have them.

The point is to simply get people to share them.  It would be nice if we could learn to do it without insulting each other.  But I'm not arrogant enough to assume everyone can do that.  So, I'm ok with being the punching bag for those who are new or find this challenging.  It's part of the process, and it really doesn't hurt anyway.

Understand -- the fact that we even dare to talk about something like abortion, global warming, gun control, liberals, race -- much less in a manner outside of the politically correct and approved opinions -- is a big deal.  And you know it's a big deal when people start running away, proclaiming they're frightened.  They set the tone.

Don't be silly Loaf.  It's a very delicate age.  Those children deserve the best care possible.  Not an executioner.

Now, I'm not a doctor.  But I don't think they should be talking about how to best remove the child's heads.  And how to ship them with the eyes closed, so when the person opens it, they're not freaked out.  Call me old fashioned.

Am I getting through, by the way?  Is this thing on?

You still aren't making your position clear… I gather that you are against abortion, but do you think research on foetal/stem cell tissue shouldn't be allowed?

Or is it just the practicality of stem cell research that you don't agree with?

Or both?

I am genuinely interested.

My position isn't clear?  Loaf!!  LOL  You're killing me -- no pun intended.  But, I've got one guy who's so frightened of me and my stark opinions, that he's hopped the first boat back to Happyland Central, where ever that is -- where I assume nothing bad happens or the people are so cooked, they have yet to form opinions about it.  And then I've got you -- and you're stumped and fascinated at, what I must assume to you is my "aboriginal mindset?"  Just a hunch.  So... now I'm actually interested!  You've kicked it up a notch 'round here.  Thank you!

OK.  So... you've gathered I'm against abortion.  Good, that's good.  But you're also asking me if I'm against performing research on aborted bodies.  Well.  I don't mean to be gross here, Loaf -- but I have ethics about killing people for research.  I mean, don't you?  Don't answer that.  How about this -- we let them use your tissue?  Are you against having your tissue being used for research?  Now, understand what it'll take to get it Loaf -- and the incentive I've created.  Cash.

Multi-culturalism is cultural suicide.  It's hard to explain that to younger minds.  Children are being taught that American culture is bad, greedy and selfish -- and any attempt to defend it is racist.  They're conversely being told that what made America great is that it embraced multi-culturalism.

Europe is what lies ahead for us if we continue on this path. Multi-culturalism does not work as a single cultural.  A society and culture needs to be together and share its deepest held beliefs.  Otherwise it will fracture and disintegrate.  That's not a maybe.  It will lead to HORRIFIC results.  It's one of the most dangerous things happening today.

Do the math on this equation -- the one's most pushing cultural suicide (or multiculturalism) are the one's most comfortable with devaluing human life at its most silent stage.  One possible answer would HAVE TO BE:  What do you think they would do if we remain silent?

Simple math.

Well said TRBB.  If someone is using something to "replace" religion -- look out.  Religion, at the very least, is practiced and designed for the purpose of comprehending what we don't know, and guiding us accordingly.

Filling that gap with the usual suspects:  science, government or some evil fanatic religion -- or the most common and flat-out worst religion of them all -- "self" -- are all shallow and remarkably short-sighted paths.

If one isn't enamored with religion, believe me, I get it.  But make yourself aware of it.  At the very least read what Jesus said -- he never hurt anyone.  That's a pretty damn good guarantee.  No church required.

Science is awesome, by the way.  But filled with just as many zealots and crooks as any other academy.
212  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Planned Parenthood exposed -- CAUTION on: August 31, 2015, 06:20:39 AM
What evidence is there that science replaces religion?  And what's the imagination anyway?  Why is it capable of producing things that, don't exist?

I don't have anything against immigration per se, but if you're going to immigrate then do like the Irish and Italians did - ASSIMILATE. You don't want to assimilate? Then keep your third-world bullshit in the third-world. I'd like to see London and Paris NOT spring up in the U.S. and I'm sure many others would as well - you know, because if you want a tolerant society, there is no room for a fifth column.

Multi-culturism is yet another faulty bi-product of the weakness of mind found in Liberals.  And that's being nice.

You say, Turmp has no chance in the genital election?  Mmmm.  I disagree.  But we may get to find out.  He's a wild card for sure.  Best election cycle in years though, isn't it?!

Why don't we maker a wager on it pal? You seem so very sure that the teabaggers are gonna win. Since I'm sure you are very, very successful (like the Donald), I'm sure you're willing to put your money where your mouth is, right?

Don't call me pal.
215  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Campaign 2016 on: August 30, 2015, 07:25:59 PM
Guess Teabag doesn't wanna post in this thread anymore now that Trump is consolidating his lead over the other jokers in the field. And any sane Republican knows that no matter how much they love the Donald, he has no chance to win the general election.

Anyways, I'm loving this election season. Hillary is showing herself to not be ready for prime time, Bernie is wowing crowds across the nation, Jeb is tanking, Rubio apparently got lost on the way to the water cooler cuz he seems to have vanished, and Trump is making every establishment Republican buffoon wanna cry. If Donald Trump wins the GOP nomination.....ah, I can't even imagine. What poetic justice it would be to see a party that caters to stupidity finally being eaten alive by it.

Kiss I'm here Bo-bo.  Just dunking my head in the toilet.  It inspires me.

So I trust that you believe that every American who owes their citizenship to the 14th Amendment are "individuals triumphing over regulation and in some cases the tyranny of the state"?

No Hypehat, do not trust yourself. You're not informed enough.  You forgot that illegal aliens are illegal. Not loopholes.

Question: If it were white Canadians sneaking across the border instead of Mexicans, would you still be bitching about "illegal aliens"?
Seriously? The racist charge? Do you guys on the Left act like this at home?

I just want to see consistensy in others' anti-immigrant views. If Mexicans shouldn't be able to cross the border into the US, neither should Canadians, or Russians, or English, or Chinese, etc. Either everyone can cross or nobody can.

Anti-illegal immigration.

Additional Comments:  Alex is a bright student, but does not read his assignments thoroughly and frequently misses class, and when he does attend class he's late and distracted.  Usually preoccupied with eating a sandwich.  There's no food in class. Grin

I started this thread while listening to Summer in Paradise for the first time in years and musing over the memories it conjured of a time when my kids were young and we were poor and a vacation to Cocoa Beach was a treasure and the Beach Boys were our happy sound track.

And now you creeps have crawled out of the woodwork and sh*t all over that.

Well, f*** you all. It's pointless to continue coming here.

I'll be content with my happy memories and thank the Beach Boys for being a part of that.

Cheesy This board's sarcasm knobby is likely on 11.  But it's a board largely founded on the genius of Brian Wilson -- not something associated with begin overly pruned.  This overgrowth is like a big comforting belch of creativity to many.  And creativity is now being linked to neuroticism, by the way.

219  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Summer in Paradise Recalled on: August 28, 2015, 12:10:08 PM

And what I'd suggest is plugging this into the formula:

Posters who like NPP simply said that they didn't understand the hate behind the record.   It was pointed out that some fans (not all, but some) chose to hate any product with Brian in which either the Beach Boys as a group name or Mike Love and/or Bruce Johnston as individual band members are not involved.  Which is 100% true.

Is it still true with the changed variables?

I have no problem with someone hating a Brian record simply because there's none of "the boys" on it.  And I have no problem with someone hating Summer In Paradise because there's no Brian.

Is that what you're objecting to?  I also believe it's ok to believe one and not the other.

I like salad.  But I don't like the salad without salad dressing.  Therefore I don't like salad?  Is that what's going on here?   LOL
And, I think you are, bar none, the funniest poster on this forum!

It's Friday, Bean Bag!

One for you!   Beer

What an amateur! We know you wouldn't spill a drop!  LOL

Good point.  Haste makes waste.  Let's try this one...

Well, I hear Let It Be as bringing the Beatles to a close, Yes, I know it was recorded before Abby Road, and yes I know the Beach Boys can't touch the Beatles as a class act, but the song does, in its way, pass the torch.

Cannot understand the bitter denunciations of this album.

While I'm not a fan of the SIP record by any means, one of the big reasons for the hate that this album gets is because Brian Wilson is not on it and had nothing to do with it.  Same reason many hate Kokomo.  Same reason many will not go see the touring version of The Beach Boys.

1000% agree with everything you just typed.

So you're all saying that a fan not liking the SIP album wouldn't have more to do with the fact that they might think the production is weak, the songs and songwriting is weak, and the whole project overall seemed to miss the mark by a few million miles?

Ahh, but it's all because Brian Wilson isn't on the album, though...right? That's a pretty bold statement to make, not to mention "explaining" why fans don't like it and ignoring the fact they might really, really think it sounds like doggie doo whether Brian Wilson or the King of Siam were involved.

Conversely -- weak songs, weak songwriting and weak production are all common traits of a non-Brian Wilson project.

See, even with the buttons all the way up... I can still get in here to scratch..
John:  Yeah, I see that.

Mike:  Everything's accessible!
John:  Mmm.

Mike:  And it looks good.
John:  Sure.  I almost got one, too.

Mike:  You can't.  I got the last one.
John:  All out, eh?

Mike:  But I can make some calls if you want.
John:  Let me get back to you on that.

Mike:  Where you guys going?
John:  Lunch.

Mike:  Cool... I'm hungry.
John:  sigh.
