Yes, Emily I was referring to Jim Murphy's book. The answer to your second question about seeing new material in the Morgan book, I would have to say no.But years ago, I had a few chances to look at every image of nearly every photographer who ever took pictures of The Beach Boys., so, I am a little jaded.

I also came up with The Beach Boys, Jan&Dean, The Beatles, The Dave Clark 5, Dylan  The Four Seasons, The Stones, Motown, and other pop artists. I think one generation's music is usually set aside by the next  generation. As I dug deeper into  my parent's music, I developed a huge interest in jazz, Western , and Blues music. Then I took courses in tribal music and classical music in college. Before grad school, I spent about  7 years managing a small group of record stores. I heard  a truckload of music on the stores' audition  systems.

The adventure for me in listening is hearing a recording that knocks me out the first few times I hear it.Having listened to group and solo Beach Boys music extensively throughout the years, I may not hear BN/BW music for months.I will be playing other music of different genres, and I'll come back to Beach  Boys/Brian music when I crave it. It's kind of like touching my musical base and then striking out for more new discoveries. That formula  for listening has always kept BB/BW music  fresh for me.

Fascinating...I'm a Kinks fan, and it is certainly logical that members of the two bands would meet.

Had some time this weekend, and read The Beach Boys America's Band written by Johnny Morgan. My review of this book may be found at my Reuminations blog. The address is   http://peternreum.blogspot.com  Cheesy
80  Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / Re: creepiest Brian/Landy article I've ever read on: November 19, 2015, 01:18:43 PM
This article illustrates the insanity that being around Landy generated. The author cites the drugs Brian was prescribed,  and the diagnoses. To put things succinctly, Landy was not even in the ballpark, and for that matter, the right planet. Thanks for posting this!

Seeing the world premiere of Smile, and having my two favorite musical obsessions co-mingle..The Brian Wilson Sings Gershwin album Smiley
82  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian and Murry not crediting each other properly on: November 14, 2015, 03:40:48 PM
The demo tape that got Nik Venet excited to sign the Beach Boys was produced by Murry, with Brian's help, according to most sources. Nik supervised the tunes on Surfin'Safari that were not part of the demo tape. On Surfin'USA, Lonely Sea was a Murry/Brian production, and Surfin' USA was Brian. The instrumental tracks are Brian, and the rest of that album is most likely Brian with Venet approving the final mix, which is why he was given the production credit on that album.

This thread seems like a good place to mention that I have posted a look back at Curt Boettcher's work in the late 60s and 70s with a closer look at California Music's Passion Fruit album. Boettcher  was an immensely talented artist and producer with perhaps a little too much of a perfectionistic temperament. My blog is at peternreum@blogspot.com.

I'd vote for the 2 Gershwin songs that Brian finished for his Gershwin album...

Andrew, It is a product of a UK reissue label. I forget the name, but I'll look for it and get back with you...

As a producer, Curt Boettcher had few peers. He did a first rate job given what he was asked to do. Perhaps it was a mistake to put the near eleven minute  Here Comes the  Night  on  L.A. Light. That it was done at the end of the disco craze was Bruce's idea. I have been listening to the California cd, and it is a beautiful  cd.

The right, center, and left need to come to some consensus on how to talk civilly to each other
What has changed since Senator Kennedy and Senator Simpson left the Senate has been an unwillingness to build consensus using the give and take of the political process. The election of idealogues rather than practical problem solvers has led to the deterioration of dialogue among ordinary people. I'd love to see more cooperation between legislators regardless of their philosophical bias. What's broken seems to be the assumption that people of differing political stances can be honorable and cooperative for our nation's common good. Embarrassed

It is great that Universal is offering vinyl and cd versions of this release. I'd like to thank whoever made that decision.I may be old fashioned, but I like cds or vinyl better than digital downloads.

The Middle East has been a quagmire since the Sunni/Shiite schism in the 8th Century. No amount of  foreign engagement will ever change the enmity between those sects. Our addiction to oil has led to our getting involved with regimes that are an anathema to our Constitution and form of government. Nearly every problem we have faced in that region has been relayed to the schism and these two sects of Islam. We need to disengage with this part of the world and mind our own business. We are feeling in the problems our own nation faces. We need to focus on those and let the Islamic world resolve their centuries long dispute.
94  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Specifics on Brian's extraction from Landy on: October 21, 2015, 02:37:58 PM
I am not aware of any other psychologist compromising the  psychologist/client professional relationship like Landy did with Brian. Imagine another art form, such as fine arts...Leonard Bernstein or Georgia O'Keeffe, as an example
Would Bernstein have let his psychologist alter his West Side Story compositions or Ms. O'Keeffe allow her shrink to paint over her landscapes or flower paintings? The answer is a firm no, and that is why Landy's interference with Brian's songs is the ultimate disrespect of his art. This is why Landy's name was removed from Brian's compositions.  Artistic rape is still rape.

I really enjoy Mike Nesmith's music...especially the Nevada Fighter. There are several tunes on it that are terrific
One is Propinquity, and another is his version of  Nilsson's The Rainmaker.

97  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Specifics on Brian's extraction from Landy on: October 15, 2015, 12:16:01 AM
The MO that the  Beach Boys collectively and individually with respect to songs they wanted to record written by people outside of the group  was to buy the individual's  copyright interest out and to credit the group member that was interested in the song. They  did that with Manson and Landy, and with Ersel Hickey, they bought the Bluebirds copyright, but couldn't realistically credit a group member with writing it because it was enough of a hit in the 1950s that it would have been  ridiculous to say a group member  wrote it or co-wrote it. Part of the group's approach was to pay generously a song's writer, then publish it through Sea of Tunes and later Brother.

For one thing, he wrote over 100 songs with Andy Paley. He recorded albums with Van Dyke Parks and Don Was, and married  Melinda.

Pope Francis spoke by invitation of Speaker Boehner. His views are the same that he has expressed throughout the world. I would hope that Speaker Boehner would know in advance what Francis stands for. There was nothing he said that he hasn't said before.
