Works good and sounds fantastic! Carl sings it beautifully. This has been booted before, right?
Please release the entire show!
Yep, on the much-discussed-as-of-late Carnegie Hall soundboard. I've always loved this live version, from the the first time I heard it nearly 15 years ago. So much so, that I always planned to recreate a studio version using the Holland take, married with the tag from Dennis's solo version. Just like they do it here. Never got around to it though. Maybe now. Inspiration.

Wild Honey is most likely from Montclair (the day after my show 3/17/72), or it is from later in the year in Passaic.
Blondie sang WH at my show. If I recall correctly, it was one of the encore songs.
Hi Dr., It should be Passaic. Both that and the four-day-later Carnegie shows were professionally recorded or filmed, and as far as I know, that wasn't the case for the earlier '72 leg shows. Just as noteworthy, they call out "Captain Keyboards" at the end of "Rhonda" from Carnegie, so Daryl was indeed there right through the two Carnegie shows -- which were the final of the tour. He's also obviously mentioned in that "Rhonda"/NJ clip. Also, and I'm not home right now to check, but I believe the Concert book even notes this all specifically. Perhaps even more importantly, I was always told that the acetate version of WH was from Passaic, and this is obviously the same performance. No skips. Different speed. Though...I kind of miss that nice, loose, big fat bass sound of that lower-fi, acetate Moffitt mix. I still have my reservations about some of ML's mastering preferences, but, that's another thread.

And did I hear Dennis call out Daryl Dragon's name at the end or am I hearing things?
Yep, it's called out right before the fade-out. For the Carnegie version, it's his "Captain Keyboard, Captain Keyboard" moniker that's called out. : ) Love this version. As someone else noted, very similar (virtually identical in places) to that noted Carnegie Hall performance from a few days later.

Brian has always been keen at recycling an older riff into a newer composition.
Land Ahoy > Cherry, Cherry Coupe County Fair > I Do Car Crazy Cutie > Pamela Jean Thinkin' 'Bout You Baby > Darlin' All Dressed Up For School > I Just Got My Pay > Marcella Sandy > Sherry She Needs Me > She Says That She Needs Me Heroes and Villains > Wonderful (Smiley) Child is Father of the Man > Little Bird > Surf's Up Wind Chimes > Can't Wait Too Long I Love To Say Da Da > Cool Cool Water Mrs. O'Leary's Cow > Fall Breaks and Back to Winter > Walk On By > Rio Grande Do You Like Worms > Whistle In Vega-Tables > Mama Says Sail Plane Song > Loop De Loop My Solution > Happy Days Spark in the Dark > Chain Reaction of Love Better Get Back In Bed > Lazy Lizzie Clangin' > Morning Beat Shortenin' Bread > Clangin' > Running Bear > Too Much Sugar > Fantasy Is Reality > Proud Mary > South American They're Marching Along > Little Children Little Girl > Sunshine Sweetie > Love Ya Black Widow > Let's Do It Again Wondering What You're Up To Now > California Role Turning Point > You've Touched Me Christine > Barbie Let's Stick Together > The Waltz Market Place > Message Man
At this rate he's made a career off of recycling. And for good reason - if it's a good riff, he remembers it.
Thanks for that list - is this comprehensive or are there "others"? Sail Plane Song/Loop De Loop> Daddy's Little Girl

I'm interested in hearing the unearthed 1974 era Dennis tracks. What does his voice sound like? We're all so interested in hearing Brian's voice on the 1974 demo of California Feeling that Dennis seems to have been ignored. The tracks on the upcoming MIC set might be essential in documenting the changing of Dennis's voice.
Along those lines, I'm really hoping that we get detailed (i.e. fairly exact where it exists) recording date annotations with the new set. That prospect's almost as exciting to me as the music within. This will go a long way in helping to decipher the tracks whose recording spanned several years...or even several eras. Bellagio, earlier boxes and the new concert book have already been great in that regard, but there's probably still even more exact and specific session info to be unveiled for many of the tracks that we've been anxiously wondering about for years.

I predict that Wild Honey (live, New Jersey, 1972) is gonna be one of the standout tracks. I'm sure others who agree…! I heard the complete live version, with Blondie, once. I believe it was the St. John's University 1972 show. It was a fair audience recording, but man, a great performance. They rocked! Just a quick note: The box set (obviously) specifies that the live Wild Honey version was recorded in New Jersey -- not New York where St. John's University is located (and where that noted audience boot is from). The two Passaic, NJ shows in November of '72 were professionally recorded for the live album, so this seems to be where the new box set recording is sourced from. Also, if it's the same version that I heard many years ago from the unreleased, single-disc acetate version of Concert, it's a smoker -- with these wild, random synth/keyboard shots that make it sound like something out of Star Wars (and assuming that they're not mixed out)! Very energetic performance! I meant that I heard a version of the complete Wild Honey live in 1972, with Blondie, not the one from the box set. There is also the famous video with him singing lead, but that one is incomplete. Sounds promising! Can't wait Ahhh....gotcha.

Ya know..something else that just occurred to me while looking at the box set tracklist...
Being that they're putting "Good Time" back into it's chronologically-correct place, I wonder if they're going to use the original (unreleased but heavily booted) Desper stereo mix of the track, vs. the later Love You one? My own uneducated guess would be "quite possibly" -- even though they don't specify it in the press-released tracklist. Thus, that *might* be one more exclusive track/mix to the set.
Or not.

It really is too bad "Goin' To The Beach" made it to the box over "Big Sur". It's sad, really.
While I'm only speculating, Mikie, I think it still might come down to the powers-that-be simply wanting to hang on to a few choice eggs in the basket for future, potential releases. That is, they're going to always need a primo track or two for the annual/semi-annual hits packages that they whip up and need to entice us with. Can't give us all the A-list stuff now (i.e. Big Sur 4/4). Let's just hope we're all still alive to be able to purchase those future releases...lol.

Basically all day in work today I was humming, "going to the beach, going to the beach, going to the beach with my babbby"
Mike has done it again.
The amusing part is... If in some parallel universe the C50 lineup would've released this as a "new" single last year, I'd lay odds that it would've charted better than both of the actual singles that did come out. That is, it would've been just simple, catchy and dumb enough to be a hit. Heck, it still might be.

I'm actually digging this. Sure, it's a "bit" dopey and slight. But, is it really any more dopey and slight than something like Waves of Love (which I kind of dig as well)? As an appetizer for the box, I think it's done its job. So nice to hear unreleased, (mostly) vintage BBs music.
PS - I'll also concede that I'm probably cutting it some slack simply because it is previously unreleased. Still...nice to hear some "new" and vintage BBs music.

Seriously--great work, Dave; exactly the type of data we need. Are you able to provide the song orders for each of those set lists? That would be kind of interesting to look at as well.
Thanks, Don. I was up late last night when the setlists starting coming in, so I just thought it was the perfect date on the "BB's" calendar (and all things considered...situation) to do a head-to-head between the two tours, as we're always debating "who plays what"..."who plays more rarities and deep cuts"..." "who has the 'better' setlist"...etc, etc. Obviously, this is also a unique time in Beach Boys history, so it was fun to compare everything to the C50 tracks. At the very least, we can glance at this if we need a quick present-day reference. Though, it will also be interesting to see what changes occur to the setlists as both tours progress. As far as the track order goes, I wasn't at either show -- I simply distilled the info that our kind posters provided (tinnitus has halted my concert-going these days, though I did make a well-prepared exception for the big tour last year). If someone wants to do an exact order for everything, I'd be happy to modify the above text.

Also, as a somewhat interesting tidbit and if my math is correct, there were 61 unique songs, total, to the C50 Tour. All of which where played at the big band's second to last stop, The Royal Albert Hall. The same number of songs, either common or unique, between last night's two "competing" setlists.
Funny how life often works out!

Thought this might be fun to pick apart and discuss. Simply gathered from the kind posters who shared this info here and elsewhere. Feel free to correct anything, as I separated these pretty quickly. Also, for stuff like Our Prayer and Ol' Man River, I listed both as *separate* tracks. Doesn't really matter in the big picture of this topic, but...
