For quite a while I've wanted to start a grindcore band that plays covers of Beach Boys songs and call it "Dyke Parks Van"

Clever, right?
27  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Sorry, Mike & Bruce on: June 24, 2015, 11:24:59 PM
Your band just can't win. You may bring the fun, fun, fun, but Brian Wilson & his band + guest artists bring the fun, fun, fun.

https://youtu.be/LgZkGX8c7iE?t=475

I don't know who that little girl with the sunglasses is, but it's freakin' heartwarming watching her bust moves right next to the Brian Wilson. Watch those moves starting 12:04 into the vid. Hilarious and adorable.

And that Matt Jardine falsetto adds so much to the vocal blend. It ain't Brian Wilson in his prime, but this is a family band, and his voice adds to that "family blend" and just sounds infinitely better than those Chocolate Shake Man high notes. Mike n Bruce can keep that guy....

28  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: So Mike has been stockpiling his songs... on: May 13, 2015, 12:01:25 AM
Daybreak isn't really that bad of a song. It's just a terrible recording they used on the album. It goes to show how much of a rush job "Radio" was for the band. They really didn't have enough time to go into the studio for ONE song? They absolutely HAD to use this abortion version with Adrian Baker's voice and that last chorus where they changed the key up a half step digitally instead of actually singing those parts?

Mucho pathetico on everybody involved's part.....

Overall though, it's a pleasant, non-offensive song, much like Kokomo. As has been said before, if it had a "Brian Wilson" credit instead of a "Mike Love" one, it would be universally applauded by the sheepish masses who can somehow stomach dreck like "On The Island" featuring that girl from the Will Ferrell movie "Elf"

But yeah, everything Mike Love does is BAD. Everything Brian Wilson does GOOD.

In Jesus name, we pray

https://news.yahoo.com/boston-university-criticizes-black-professors-racial-tweets-202124508.html

Is this not the kind of attitude that keeps racism alive and well in Amerika?

If this were a white professor saying these things about black people, would that professor still have a job?

Should this new professor keep her job, despite her obvious bias against a certain demographic of not just her students, but the country's population as a whole?

What are we, as the "tolerant" generation, going to do about this sort of inequality in the world?

30  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: So Mike has been stockpiling his songs... on: May 12, 2015, 11:37:14 PM
The entire history of Beach Boys and Beach Boys-related releases have been for naught if WRINKLES never sees an official release.

How the hell can those alleged "musicians" live with themselves knowing a song like WRINKLES has only been available on bootlegs for multiple decades.....
31  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What year/era was it most challenging to be a Beach Boys fan? on: May 12, 2015, 05:04:30 PM
Any time from the Uncle Jessie bullshit until about the time of the 70's reissues. God, that Home Improvement embarrassment. Well vocally it sounded ok but image wise it was a wet shame. Brian though was considered  cool in 1995 and for a few years after by my age group  (and most of us ended bitterly disappointed by imagination ), so I'd refer to myself as a BW fan first back then.

Dude, no, that Home Improvement bit was AWESOME. Full House was wack, but Home Improvement was one of the better crappy 90s sitcoms. And who'da thunk Tim Taylor's neighbor's cousins were THE Wilsons?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6j0Dom1mUM

The only bad things in my opinion are the fact Brian's not there, and Matt's ponytail. But hey, can't blame him, the 90s were crazy times.

...do you think The Beach Boys would have been as popular as they became?

33  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Mike Smith (aka Bubbles) a fan of The Flames on: May 02, 2015, 02:15:45 AM
Hah, keeps his Flame record next to Conky.

Never would expect Bubbles to be a fan of music.

I wonder if he knows of the band due to the Beach Boys involvement, or if he's a Rutles fan and discovered them researching Ricky Fataar's history..... I wonder if he's secretly a member here.....

Trailer Park Boys is definitely one of my favorite underrated TV shows.

35  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The yay & nay of the Surfin USA lp on: May 02, 2015, 01:59:18 AM
We probably wouldn't have the rest of the Beach Boys discography if it weren't for Surfin' U.S.A. That includes everything from Pet Sounds to Summer In Paradise.

Brian would have been forced to bum a job from his cousin Mike Love at the service station he worked, and would have spent the rest of his short life topping off Fords & Chevys and checking tire pressures and seeing how far up the dipstick the oil goes.
36  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Who do you want to see Brian cover on his R&R album? on: May 02, 2015, 01:56:28 AM
Nobody at all. Who at this point in time wants Brian Wilson to cover other peoples' songs?

Pleasure Island should be a completely original  34 minute odyssey of the hardest hitting rock music we've heard from Brian Wilson since a little ditty known as Don't Back Down.
37  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: My review of No Peer Pressure album on: April 20, 2015, 02:30:54 AM
What is your definition of "ironic"?

Is it an internet idiot calling out somebody acting like a "professional" on the internet for their inability to spell an album they reviewed's name correctly ?!
38  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: My review of No Peer Pressure album on: April 20, 2015, 02:28:33 AM
I wish I lived in a time where correct spelling was something mattered. Thanks for making the world lazy and unable to proofread themselves, internet!!

"As long as I get my point across", right?

The irony is strong with this one Smiley

Ya rite isnt it?
39  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What is happening with the licensed Beach Boys? on: April 20, 2015, 02:28:04 AM
I'm not a huge fan of the falsetto of JF, however I believe his natural baritone in the middle third is outstanding.  In my honest opinion this band lost its vocal prowess when Christian left the band.  Sometimes I would close my eyes and he could sound a scary amount like a young Carl.  It was truly a shame we had to listen to Bruce sings GOK all those years when Christian sound eerily like Carl and light years better than Bruce on it.
I agree that Christian is/was underrated: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6Qe0dZPJKo

I feel like Bruce makes Mike really uncomfortable with his "OMFG R U HEERING THIS" mannerisms at the beginning of this clip that Mike stops watching his son do a great job singing a classic song so Bruce will stop looking at Uncle Mike.

41  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson Taping Soundstage Special With Special Guests on: April 20, 2015, 02:13:22 AM
Finally get a chance to watch this. Did a search and saw it airs at 5 AM today (god bless you, DVR).

There's a pretty sweet, uplifting combination of shows beforehand.... Starting at 2 AM we've got "Death Camp Treblinka", followed by an hour of "Göring's Secret: The Story Of Hitler's Marshall", then there's "Killing Hitler" at 4 AM, and as the icing on the cake, "Brian Wilson And Friends: A Soundstage" airs shortly before the sun rises in the east.

Happy 4/20, everybody!!! Smoke weed 'til ya die!!!
42  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike Love states touring band in best shape vocally since original group on: April 16, 2015, 01:27:20 AM
I'd love to buy a 30 pack of Miller High Life, share them with Mike Love, and then spend the rest of the evening egging him on as he talks poop and makes disparaging remarks of all the things Mike Love would get drunk passionate about after about a dozen cans of the champagne of beers.

Fucka VIP "meet & greet", I'll give that guy money for a "drink & speak".

I'll be sure to let you all know how that goes.
43  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Could Stamos have had success re-recording a different Denny tune than Forever? on: April 16, 2015, 01:13:51 AM
He prolly could have done a Slip On Through cover that made all the babes wet in the places his cover of Forever attempted to/did.

44  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Ponostore version of NPP now available on: April 13, 2015, 01:46:27 AM
Holy shitballs, $17.99 for a DIGITAL album of music? And they want even more for an album released over 40 years ago? Unless it's a career-spanning box set, I am offended, regardless of which artist or music store offered me computer files of an album of songs that are available in at least 2 other formats that sound equally as good or better.

One of many nails in the coffin of Neil Young's too little, too late high definition audio files store and player.  Roll Eyes Grin

I feel bad for anybody who spent money on anything involving this poorly named "Pono"..... It's basically an mp3 player for somebody who doesn't know what a CD or vinyl LP or flac file or smart phone is.
45  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Did Carl lose some of his motivation after 1973? on: April 13, 2015, 01:34:41 AM
Carl Wilson probably wouldn't have been a part of multiple Beach Boys albums and released 2 solo albums, in addition to consistent touring from (earlier than) 1973 to his death in the late-1990s, if he lost some of his motivation.

Carl Wilson was motivated, and he stayed motivated, until the very end, when the evil entity known as God took him away from us mortals on a cold day in 1998.
46  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Jeff Foskett replacement on: April 06, 2015, 12:50:08 AM
JEFF FOSKETT AND HIS INIMITABLE FLASETTO IS IRREPLACEABLE. A TRUE LOSS TO THE BRAIN WILSON BAND!!!

Real talk though, as time wore on dude's voice was entering Adrian Baker levels of grating, so it's really no loss at all he went and joined Mike Love's traveling jukebox. Thank you, Jeff Beck, you vest wearing wank maestro, for helping to set in motion this transfer.

The addition of Matt Jardine (and his father) to an already stellar band has elevated their sound to a whole other level, with a vocal blend better than anything we've heard since The Beach Boys' "Holland" album. Ike's no slouch either, but that Jardine boy is something else. You can really tell he's family.
47  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Soundstage special premieres tonight! (for NY and NJ viewers) on: April 06, 2015, 12:39:48 AM
I looked at the near future's PBS listings, didn't see squat about about this special, did a search for "sound", "soundstage", and "brian wilson", and there was none of that in my TV guide's future.

So yeah. I either missed it or this special doesn't exist and you're all not real people and none of this is real and I'm a part of some computer script that constitutes my entire existence.

49  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian's 1975 recording of \ on: April 04, 2015, 11:37:18 PM
Fuckin' mind blowing.

God.

Damn.

At first it's like "that's Brian Wilson singing?! Even if you're familiar with all his "voices". Then you can really hear his "gruff" voice, then finally at the end of it that falsetto that made his voice so recognizable. Then there's parts where if we didn't know any better we'd think it was Dennis singing.

Definitely a heartbreaking rendition of that song....

And that new Love & Mercy without that super dated sounding 80s cheese production. Sweet.

Micha's exempt because he's a nice guy, but USUALLY, I can't stand acronyms like that because it shifts the work of the writer to the reader.

I keep thinking, but I just can't the heck figure out what the acronym "USUALLY" stands for... Roll Eyes

Thanks for being nice to me too! Smiley
