Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike and Bruce Tour 2015

We need Scott T to chime in on that, but I personally believe (based on YouTubedotal evidence) that Bruce wears pants most of the time now. The short shorts thing is a relic of decades past, and what's really a curiosity/burning question is when is the last time Bruce sported a mustache onstage....?

The only stuff I dig off Party was the car medley (we always take my car although it's a heap) and when Dennis sings that Beatles song. It's fun and timeless, but it definitely lacks what Summer Days and Pet Sounds have a lot of.... If that makes any sense. Which it doesn't.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: I gotta get this strait, how capitol screwed them in '67

Looking back with these roseish colored lenses and being born the same year as Kokomo, my opinion is idiotic and wrong, but Capitol didn't really screw The Beach Boys, they screwed themselves by not making the music that the general public went nuts for, like they did those first 4 years.
Yes, their mid-60s music is now considered by many as their creative peak, but.
They peaked commercially at a time when their music was perfect for the times, and never really got with the times after their "wave broke" (PUN INTENDED LOLOLOL) in the mid-60s, and never really regained their commercial footing until they started releasing greatest hit comps once their music was considered "nostalgic."
The average music listening people will name "Surfin' USA", "I Get Around", or "California Girls" when you talk about Beach Boys songs, but when it comes to "masterpiece albums", such as Pet Sounds, pretty much the only songs people aren't as whacky as us will mention is "Wouldn't It Be Nice", to a lesser extent "Sloop John B", and to an even lesser extent, "God Only Knows".
It all comes back to people not appreciating what they have until it's gone. If Pet Sounds were a smash hit and Smile was released and a hit in the way Brian Wilson imagined it near the beginning of the project, we'd have a totally different history of the band. There'd be no Love You or Summer In Paradise. But what would there be? And would we really want it any other way? Yeah we would.

I think selling us the songs, preferably several times... is kind of the point.
Sooo... I wonder how many outtakes this generated?
What would be the point of buying the regular CD as well as the deluxe edition? And who would do that? A collector. You are surrounded by them right now in fact. There aren't as many as you think. I remember when I was 19 years old and thought I knew everything. These internet generation kids got no respect....

You can blame sweetdudejim on the error of my ways. Or blame me for not reading the entire Welcome thread in that forum.
Either way, I'm very excited Brian decided to grace us with his presence and will be answering some of our questions in advance of this new album we will hopefully be getting to hear sooner rather than later.

I really wanted to ask him a Kill-Marry-Screw style question about Kacey, Zooey and Lana, but I figure the mods would not be cool with it, and Brian probably wouldn't answer it. He'd probably just screw & marry all 3, I know I would. So instead I just asked if we're ever going to hear the long-rumored album known as Pleasure Island.

Since the big man decided to grace us with his presence, I figured it would be a good idea to have a thread where we can ask him our burning questions.
Will he respond? Who knows!
But it doesn't hurt to at least try, especially now that we know he is officially one of us SmileySmilers.

Just now seeing this thread so I'm a few days late. But honestly, if you want to save money to do stuff you'll enjoy throughout the remainder of your retirement, but an Asian car. Honda or Toyota, mostly. Outside of Japan, Kia of Korea makes a decent vehicle.
You probably won't find the fanciest or the fastest, but they're reliable, much moreso than (most) American cars.
I think you should buy a cheap, reliable car, then use it to go to places and experience things that will be much more memorable to you than owning a "cool" car will be.
As for a recommendation, check out a Kia Optima from the past couple years, they're more "sporty" than they used to be, and you can probably find one for a decent price. If you're looking to spend more than $20k, find a used Toyota Land Cruiser.

Doesnt surprise me. Any and Every substantial group PERIOD is influenced by the Beach Boys. And every band/artist in the last 40+ yrs makes it known that they wouldnt exist without em. The greatest of the great I.e. the Ramones, Dictators, Dickies, Descendents, Queers, Travoltas, etc have ALL either covered the BBs and/or borrowed from em, very prevalent.
No. Just no. Don't knock other peoples' tastes. Books, music, movies, dog breeds, trees. Just cause you don't find them to be the greatest, doesn't mean other people can't. In regards to this thread, I found that whole " Ba Ba Barbara Santa Barbara " song to be pretty cringeworthy.

John Phillips of the Mamas and the Papas has been dead for 13 years.
John Hunter Phillips, as the different name and being alive would suggest, is indeed a different person.
Well that's good to hear. With the amount of unreleased, studio-recorded songs by artists who are currently not living; and record labels on life support that are looking to make a quick buck off of said people who currently spend their time as corpses, it's hard to know if the stuff being shilled is actually new or just being marketed as new by a bunch of scumbags who would rather sell some rapist's music than work a real job. Sorry if I'm offending people, but me, I'd rather change my "professional" name than have to share most parts of it with some folk rock singer whose life is marred by the awful things that have come to light in recent years.

Good luck to ye. It's hard these days to make a living creating music unless you're involved in a particular type of generic garbage rock type stuff (Foo Fighters) or cretinous rap garbage (Lil Wayne and Drake) or absolute shite po(o)p loved by young teen girls (One Direction). It would be satisfying to me to know that somebody with a similar love of this crazy 1960s pop-rock "god" had what it takes to carve a niche in the almost mostly talentless modern music scene.
