Excellent!  The Jack White sung songs are some of his best ever.  I think Benson can do better and has, but I'm pretty sure some of the songs he wrote Jack sings and vice versa.

This albums made me realize the only person in RGCP worth a damn is John Fruciante.  Anthony Keidis writes some of his worst lyrics ever and Flea pumps out the cliche funk songs.  If they would have put this out in 99 instead of Californication we would have forgotten all about them by now.  I know that's harsh, but having bought it on the same day as the new Neil Young it makes me realize how great Neil is and how overrated these guys are.

Musically Izzy Stradlin is about 90% responsible for what you hear on Appetite.  The lyrics were pretty much all Axl with contributions from Izzy.  The Use Your Illusion era was a mixed bag.  Axl wrote a lot of the progressive huge sounding productions, Izzy went for a Stones/Faces sound later found on his solo albums and Slash and Duff chruned out some clunkers.  Slash can write great lead parts, but from what I understand he isn't much of a writer.

Axl sucks.
GNR sucked.

If it isn't Brian Wilson or the Kinks it must suck  Wink

Okay the 80's sucked for Paul...well not even all of them, but I think your 70's review was a little harsh.  McCartney and Ram are my favorite Beatle solo albums.

They're booked for Rock in Rio and the download festival.  I'd like to see this line-up.  Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin, Robin Finck, Tommy Stinson, Slash, Matt Sorum, and Dizzy Reed.

I couldn't disagree with you guys anymore.  Velvet Revolver is awful and none of those guys could write a song to save their lives.  Axl and Izzy wrote all the songs Slash just plays great lead.  The new songs sound great a thousand times more intriguing then VR.  Bring on the flaming.

I hope you're right Ian.  As much as I like Make Believe the direction Rivers was taking right after the Pinkerton sessions was excellent.  I'm sure his chops on guitar and piano are more than up to the task to accomplish anything he wants musically these days.

Matt and Rivers wrote "Time Song" which I used to have a little clip of the two of them performing it together.  The part that Rivers sang took my breath away.  I think just being around Matt influenced Rivers writing.  Matt's Rentals songs (first album especiailly) are pretty good actually.  I never really got into his solo album.  What I heard was far from impressive.

I still enjoy the hell out of Make Believe.  When will the Weezer hating end?

One of my all time favorite's is Badfinger's Wish You Were Here.  I also think Cheap Trick's All Shook Up is really underrated although that may have come out in 80

First off Eat'em and Smile is as good as any Van Halen album period.  BTW he has the largest free radio show on the east coast so I think that counts as something.

Supposedly VR recorded the "best instrumental GN'R album" of all time with Izzy Stradlin before Scott came on board. I would much rather have heard that.   I won't take away anything from the Tiny Music era, but after that release they were really insonsistant.  Especially No. 4.  STP never did anything Redd Kross or Enuff Z'Nuff didn't do better sorry.

Next up VR is making a concept album, how much you wanna bet it's about how much Scott hates the press?

Velvet Revolver is a joke and the only good thing Weiland ever did (besides being arrested) was Tiny Music.

I find it hard to believe ANYONE didn't enjoy the acoustic side of Lies.  UYI were overblown, but I still like'em.

If it came out I think it would make a difference.  There aren't many rock stars the world cares about anymore, but Axl is still held up to God like status especially at Rolling Stone.  Axl is the second best song writer in the band behind Izzy Stradlin so if the bands line-up is great and he's had all this time to write great songs there's no reason why this album shouldn't be amazing.  I was scheduled to see him the show after the Philly riot last time and if he would tour...well I'd be there.

Take a look at this!
Hey, man, that suit is you!
You'll get some leg tonight for sure!
Tell us how you do!
(Come on, Dave, give me a break.)
Hey, hey, hey, hey, one break coming up!  - Unchained

I like the way the line runs up the back of the stockings.
I've always liked those kind of high heels too. You know, I...
No no no no, don't take 'em off, don't take... Leave 'em on, leave 'em on.
Yeah, that's it, a little more to the right, a little more....  - Everybody Wants Some

Yeah, we're runnin' a little bit hot tonight.
I can barely see the road from the heat comin' off of it.
Ah, you reach down, between my legs,
ease the seat back.  - Panama

Van Halen anyone?
